THANK YOU for answering my question so eloquently! You also hit a particular nail on the head; I grew up full contact through high school and then later went to low/no contact adult leagues. I had to change my whole mindset and ways without taking the body. And yes, I play bass. 😁

Lol, reminds me of my nephew who captained his Varsity Water Polo team. Went to college and joined the club coed water polo group who played using inner tubes. First game he grabs a guy and pulls him under. They had to explain to him it wasn't the game he was used to lol!

You're lucky. I was pretty small when I played contact hockey, even though I played defence, so I had to build my game around speed and stickwork. Made transitioning to rec league way easier though!

@@cjboiss5779 I found it was the smaller guys you had to watch out for. Usually faster, hit harder (low center of gravity), and scrappy. I know because I’m only 5’9” and used to put dudes twice my size down.😁

@@bassventurafretdetective8899 Yeah, I could catch guys unaware everyone once in a while. But I got tall in my last year of high school, and put on some bulk in uni, so now I'm fast and scrappy *and* big. Only problem is I'm not allowed to hit guys anymore XD

@@daniellesch8925 we got whipped. Worst of all, I forgot to hit record for the 2nd period. Rookie mistake. We had a real short bench and the other team was really playing well. Ironically, most of the guys on last night’s opposing team, are on my team tonight.

@@VOGoalie That's what happened! I thought my speakers or audio card had crapped out on my computer :-D. Had to leave to watch the Jets beat Toronto. Good advice for Luke. What those tools on his team were doing to Luke was bullying, plain and simple. If they respected him they would have quit after he asked them to stop with the headshots and not still think it was a big joke. I hope his parents and coaches stand up for him and put his team mates straight, that what they are doing is not cool and to continue their behaviour would have consequences.

great advice for defenseman, I'll send this video to my teammates! I can't control rebounds well and usually give goals on 2nd or 3rd attempts so clearing the puck is a huge help for me. I have a friend who started playing defense only 2 years ago and he will appreciate all the tips!

You can get whiplash from hits (Pucks) to the head more so than concussions (I think). Teammates head hunting is hard to answer without more information, like is this a rec league or travel, is it during practice or warm up? If it’s drop in (warm up) you may get a nasty look the first time or too, after that look out for a flying Goalie stick. If I’m feeling nice that day, I may just remove myself from the net whenever you get the puck the whole session (I call this suspension). It may prolong for weeks. If during the drop in and the offending player is/was a goalie and it was a high shot on purpose then that’s a cross check, High Cross Check (after strike 3) unless there is an instantaneous “I didn’t mean to do that” (we know not to do that). Rec League warm up you can’t let the other team see discord on the team so a side bar will work most times. Rec League (rare) practices if coaches don’t get involved a gentle slash to the helmet (” Hey you like that sound?”). Travel Team warm up the same as Rec League. Practice Captain and Coach have to get involved. If that doesn’t work, find another team with better coaching, and ask for a refund and respond accordingly. After numerous head shots I decided in drop in two head shots were my limit meaning I just leave. Some people thought I was bluffing; now they don’t shoot at my head on purpose.
