Communication on the ice is something I know I need to work on. I kinda enjoy being in my own little world, and other than the occasional chirp to someone I know. I do believe when I talk to someone, they lack the ability to understand what I’m saying. I’m generally soft spoken by nature, and I think I’m loud enough for others to hear me, but I couldn’t help but notice the lungs on my opposing goalie in last night’s game. He was yelling plays to his team when they were shooting in me. Any tips on becoming more audible or increasing the decibel range on my voice without feeling like I’m absolutely screaming?

Yep, often I'm in my own little world too..... Zoning things out and just focusing on the puck at all times.

Generally, most people hear voices clearly that are in a higher frequency range if there is a lot of competing sounds. If you have a deeper voice, instead of raising your volume, try raising your pitch. Also, consider where your mouth is in relation to the chin drop of your mask. If you mouth is in the cage window, it will help as opposed to if your mouth is lower and covered by your chin. That being said, I always advocate to prioritize proper mask fit first, over other adjustments like cage vision or the like.

@@VOGoalie great insight. I drink water with my mask in, so at least part of my mouth is visible through my cage, but a good portion is covered by the chin cup. I bought my NME 10, fit 2 mask used, but in like new condition, but it has never fit great. I took a shot Wednesday night that smashed my cage in and gave me a crazy ringer. I wouldn’t have been surprised if I had lost a few teeth and my whole face busted up after that one, but the mask did it’s job and I’m fine. I do plan on making my own custom fit mask in the future after I get brave enough to do a head casting.
