Come along with me as I travel through time on a bike that's travelled through time - the Royal Enfield Bullet 500! I plan to make lots of visits to historic and geographic sites of significance across the Republic of Ireland, and learn a bit of history about them, and also just enjoy life on two wheels!
If that takes your fancy, please subscribe, and feel free to suggest anywhere in Ireland for me to have a wander to and make a video on!

Boy! Would I love to ride my W800 down those road with such beautiful scenery. Alas I am in Canada so that's not going to happen. Nice videos. Cheers.
I have the same key ring. 😅
That's beautiful
First time i went to normandy was in 1980 when i was 16. We went cherbourgh. It was not build up like these days. There was a single road just outside the town leading to the shorline. Before taking a sharp right turn to the campside i saw a solid antitank round stuck in the rocks. My parents did not allowe me to pick it out the rock. I wandred around as i always did anywhere. Sins i could not and still cant read french i was not botherd what the sign on a barbed wirde had to say. Hoped over it, climed thd hill towards the bunkers and wandered around a bit. By the time i stepped back over the barbed wire i was told off by a old frenchmen. No iedea what he was on about. Untill he flipped over a rusty iron shield. Unexploded mines... i felt like a cat who just lost one of its nine lives. The next day i went to the shoreline. Huge bolders at first but getting smaller towards the waters edge. Stumbled around a bit , got stuck a view times. But found some neat stuff between the rocks. Rusty machinegun barrels. Wierdly enough a ,dont how they are called, but a US uniform sign for a major. I dont know if it was brons or gold collor. The next find i still have laying around my house somewhere. Stuck on rather thick rusted peace of metal was a rather thick , brons or copper, plaque?. I cant remember what it said sins i have not seen the damn thing in years. But it stated the state it was made in. And a drum barrlle number. There is more detail on it but again have not seen the damn thing for years. Anyway. Tried years ago to find the company that made it. No luck in the US. But believe it or not they had a headquaters in denmark. Send them a picture of my find and hoped they could tell me more. This was at least 15 years ago. Several weeks went bye before i got a disapointing answere. They told me that it was indeed from there company and ww2 related. But they could not find any records relating to what it was . Now that being disapointing also made me wonder how the could tell it was from there company and ww2 related..a view weeks later i got a e mail from them, they asked iff i was willing to mail the object to them so they could study it. Made me 🤨.. Why the intrest if they have no clou what it really was. I asked them for the reason of there rather wierd reqeused. Got told a bs reason. So i told them to get stuffed. The copper or brons plaque is around 7.5 cm long and 2.5 cm high. Very well made..thick material. I still find it wierd i was never able to find any info about it. Maybe someone els taking a look at would say thats so and so. Its bin 44 years and it still bugs not knowing what it is. Ill try and find it ,when i do find it .And iff you got a e mail adress i will send you a picture and maybe you can put a tail on the head of this mystery.
I loved to your video on the Bullet 500, only thing I saw the hitchcock rack on their site is now 130€ more or less, not 30€, did it increase that much or was yours a second hand?
Where you riding in switzerland at the time there was extreme bad weather and floodings? .i hope that did not trow a to big of spanner in the works.
Another great video Brendan. Your laid back Irish brogue makes it a relaxing thing to watch. I've been on the D Day trail for a few years now and recall many of the sites of interest you visited. There is so much to explore. Have you been to the Bocage and Falaise?
Hey! What can I do against a fogged visor? I'm used to Pinlock...~
@@Liewie honestly it hasn’t fogged up on me yet; it doesn’t hermetically seal like other helmets do, so there should be no issue that way 😁 at least in my experience
❤❤❤
Hiw old is your 500 brother? Where did you buy it from?
Thanks for this nice review. I also have the white version of this helmet. I am very pleased that it is light and comfortable.
You said the air flow is great but that is exactly what worries me. At the store they told me that the wind could be annoying on long rides. What do you think?
For most of the riding I've done on it (average speed around 80kph/50mph) wind noise hasn't been a problem for me. Mind you, I mostly wear it in just summer time when the weather is hot and it's not as windy anyhow. The other day, however, I wore this helmet on the motorway on a different bike that had a windscreen, going about 120kph/75mph, the wind noise was there quite a bit! So really, i'd say it depends on what kind of riding you plan to do! For touring at a leisurely pace up to 100kph the wind never really bothered me. I do usually wear one earbud for music/directions, but even so in the other ear it was fine. Hope that helps! Any more questions feel free to ask 👍
@@BulletWanderer thank you for the long answer! Really helpful
Re the vibrations, I bumped into a guy at a classic bike meet who was admiring my Classic350 Steath Dark. He said that if you fit a Carberry plate for vibration reduction to the 500s, it only sends the vibrations further into the engine to potentially cause worse problems. Food for thought there.
Why does the speedometer oscillate?
Daaaamn, it was built right on the spine of the mountain. One step wrong and your dead.
I’m always petrified of scuffing my chrome tank 🫣 Looks great Bullet. Definitely gateway-worthy 👌🏼 The sprocket though 😮 Meh! Be alright won’t it 🤣
Great video Brendan. Those views to the lake are very similar to the one's we get here on the Isle of Wight from Ventnor to the sea. Lovely roads there too and DB sounds on top song 🙂
Just noticed that the white on the mountain at 2 minutes looks like a shark leaping from the water 😉
Something you might be interested in; an Indian company named ‘Legundary’ does a belt drive conversion for the Classic 500. I fitted the conversion to mine and it was great: no lost teeth, no chain adjust or lubricant needed. Worth looking out for. Safe riding 😀👍
Power loss .
Beautiful wide open spaces. Love it 🍻👍
I'm a little late but happy birthday! Good job on fixing the ol girl up. Looks fine to me 😁👍🍻
Great video. This is one place I was actually close to when on a business trip for Honda to France from Ohio, USA. I made it to Geneva and Mont Blanc. Beautiful area, nice to see it again with your commentary! Thank you Brendan
I just got Poppy the Bullet 500 back in my garage! Whahoo!
As Saddlebags73 and the rest of our Cornish say "Some Pretty".
I miss the loud thump of your Bullet since you put the stock exhaust back on it, it was the soundtrack to your videos. Your videos inspired me to take my 500 Classic out and do some wrenching on it. Hadn't ridden it since I got my Janus. The RE is still beautifully noisy, rattly and painfully vibratory as ever. I went to a mechanic and he shied away from doing work on it... it scared him, I think.
Brilliant scenery and the drumbeat of DB makes it even better. Loved it! Best wishes to clearing weather in Ireland. Send some rain over here. We can use it.
You always make me smile.Simplicity
Thoroughly enjoyable video. Thanks for taking us along. I'm waiting for some maintenance supplies to take the Bullet on any longer rides. Maybe a store run or two for today.
We did Switzerland a few years ago.... after the sticker shock for just about any purchase... we enjoyed the country. Zurich was very urbane but we loved old Bren. I decided my 1964 Chevy El Camino would be difficult on the county roads and finding a place to park it... even more difficult. Lots of " Smart " cars.... the pastries at the farmers markets are to die for ! 😎
Oh for some of that sunshine and warmth this year!!
Your bike is mutch nicer than mine! 🌷🌷❤❤🌹🌹👍👍👌👌
Having owned a genuine Royal Enfield Crusader in the early sixties, I can only say that the RE badged bikes being produced in India today are about the same as a Vindaloo from your local Indian takeaway, just gives you the sh*ts. Anbody trying to buy nostalgia should go out a pay for the real thing as these imitations will depreciate exponentially.......
That's a bit harsh! 😂 I've had many happy miles with this bike; sure she needs a bit more TLC than other modern bikes but its still a lot less TLC than a genuine sixties/fifties Royal Enfield. Not slagging them or those that choose to ride vintage bikes, I greatly respect them! I just don't have the know-how or time to dedicate to keeping a properly old machine running, or the trust to go as far as I go when I'm touring with one 😅 The Royal Enfield Crusader is a gorgeous little bike.
The Sixty 5 was the best of the breed. Cast iron barrel, carb, points, 5 speed left side gears, drum brakes, fork gaiters etc.
Snap, I've got a 2017 Classic chrome E4, rear disc, abs, all the modern gizmos 😂
No shame in that Trevor, sometimes I wish Daisy had rear disc and ABS 😅
Yes my previous 2008 efi chrome 500 had a rear drum and it was just too weak for two up riding which we mainly use the bike for. The rear disc is a marked improvement. Not triggered ABS on it in two years 🤣
Wonderful video!!!
Glad you liked it!
Daisy Bell is looking fine. I love the fender plaque. 👍 I picked up a 17' Classic/Bullet yesterday. Rode a bit hard the previous 5000 miles but it is still running. I'll have to go through the bike.
Congratulations on your new Bullet! What colour did you end up getting?
@@BulletWanderer The color looks like the same as your 500. (Did you say Forrest Green.) Beautiful bikes!
Thanks for the review! In your review you say that there is not enough space to install bluetooth communications. I'm thinking of buying this helmet and installing Cardo Systems FREECOM 2X in it. Can you comment on this possibility?
To be honest I'm not too sure. I only had Moman H2's installed in this for a time, but I'd imagine the ear pieces were roughly the same size, it was quite a tight fit as it doesn't have any sort of recess for ear pieces. I am able to use a single wireless earbud in the helmet though, if the Cardo is able to connect to wireless earbuds? Although then you might lose the microphone ability 🤷♂️ Might be better off looking into other similarly styled (but more expensive) helmets like the Shoei Glamster?
That sprocket is absolutely shagged right out. The front one cant be much better and the chain needs chucking as well. Lucky that Enfield parts are easy to find 👍
Fortunate to have Hitchcocks nearby over in the UK, just painful with Brexit imposing income duty 😅
thats how you make review on a helmet great job
That's a classic 500 chrome, it's popular here in india, should've upgraded to a 650 twin though.
Respectfully disagree, its just a classic 500 chrome tank, and the Bullet 500 Daisy Bell is my dream bike, could never upgrade from her 😍
Personaly i find the bike better looking with this gastank and exhaust. Certainly sounds better. Gives it a more 50,s look
Glad you agree! Leaning a bit more into the old fashioned look is what I wanted 😁
Happy. i am from India. i am 62 now and proud owner of Enfields since my 17 yrs. Now RE500 classic is with me from2017.
You should probably check with Hitchcock's. My understanding is you should change the chain and front sprocket at the same time. Plus the rear sprocket interacts with the rear brake shoes. So it might be a good idea to get new shoes ad well. I am switching to the 19t front sprocket. My rear sprocket teeth looked fine but i figured better safe then sorry. This way all the parts will mate together properly.
All the time i have been the throttle cable always leaves me scratching my head . Why does it move with throttle ? Shouldn't it stay in place while the inner cable moves ?
Have you done in royal Enfield service centre or local garage bcoz in India many local garage are expert in modifying bullet...
Only two RE service centers in Ireland, but both are a couple hours away from where I live unfortunately! I do have a local mechanic I trust to do the bigger jobs with Daisy though.
Happy Birthday. The tank looks great.
I'm not a fan on the look of the factory exhaust but love the mellow thump.
It's a trade off, to each their own I suppose! 😁
Happy Birthday! 🙂 Really loved the first five minutes of onboard footage. Long live Daisy Bell, lovely machine.
Cheers Neil!
All that really matters is that you like Daisy Bell as she is. That said I think she looks wonderful and I love the makeover. Happy Birthday Brendan.
Cheers Stefan, glad you agree too 😁
I think back pressure is the word youi're looking for. Great video, thanks!
Spot on Peter, cheers!
