    literally the only thing stopping them from raising prices too high is both the consumer not wanting to pay anymore and the ftc. there’s ZERO meaningful competitors, aside from bigger social media apps, that can feasibly affect change on prices besides bumble.

  • @simoncaine9515
    @simoncaine95156 күн бұрын

    Absolutely. Some niche apps have pulled some users away (like local newspapers and radio stations) but they won't and can't compete. So they'll push it, until we can't afford it. And then sit and wait. It's horrific.

    I’m subscribing simply because this is a topic I wish more people would talk about, tinder’s business practices are outright criminal and some of these apps strategically use bots to fluff up your like numbers to make you want to pay, I’d wager they even use psychologists as a means to further manipulate people into purchases.

    It's a bit of a doom and gloom answer, but i don't think this *can* change until there's a cataclysmic shift in the way our society functions. The reality is that a lot of companies don't have the _option_ not to chase infinite growth; that requirement comes off the backs of investors who make their money by essentially betting on someone else's money. If you can't ensure constant growth year on year, you simply can't retrieve the funding to continue running your services. Google is just a couple bad years away from deleting every KZread video before about 2016, and to say that they wouldn't simply shut the website the fuck down is generous given their track record. Every company is just a few bad years from having a service that will completely bankrupt them because no one will fund them anymore. Our entire society is and for possibly nearly three hundred years HAS been based on infinite growth, we just haven't started seeing the limits (and the consequences) of it until recently. It's intrinsic to our society, and wall street is a blight on the history of mankind and the sooner the concept of "investing" in other people's success is dead and gone, the sooner we as a society will be free from enshittification

    If only we could have some sort of really big car that can fit lots of people, and we could have them stop at popular destinations, and we can just have one driver, and then people who want to go to the same place at the same time can all use the same vehicle. Then we could have lanes specifically for these big vehicles so that it can bypass the usual traffic.

  • @Anhjje

    I predict there will soon be an AI exhaustion. Everyone and their mothers are trying to hamfist AI into their products and it's just...annoying. As I use ChatGPT more and more, I have gone back to favouring traditional internet searches. As truly groundbreaking and amazing the technology is, it will still suffer from becoming normal, and thus boring. Robots 🤖

    The editing is extremely bad, the video is almost unwatchable: the things on screen change all the time... Perhaps it's good for the algorithms, but not for content / people.

  • @simoncaine9515
    @simoncaine9515Ай бұрын

    Sorry you didn't enjoy it - did you make it to the end? Personally I found my editing on this one a little slow. But that's just me. Also, I don't really get much of a boost from the algorithms (most of the views come from my current audience and people who watch me on tiktok and bounce over for more polished videos). Thanks for the feedback though. I'll bare it in mind for the future. Have a lovely day 😀

    @@simoncaine9515 Yeah, perhaps it's just your style and your audience got used to it. I find it difficult to watch. But it's just my own preference. For example some channels speak too fast. Some channels with the style I like are Early Music Sources and 3b1b. Unfortunately I have no idea how to make videos the right way so I can't say that something is better or worse, it's just my own preference. One thing I can think of, is to have only one important thing to look at at one particular moment (most of the time). The idea is to not have to jump from corner to corner, like for example in movies, when the scene changes, the most important thing of the next scene is located where the most important thing of the previous scene was. This way the viewer can do some "economy of eye movement".

    While black cabs increase prices overnight or on public holidays, at least it’s on a very rigid schedule, even if it annoys people going to work early on a Monday morning whose taxi arrives at 0558.

    Yeah, markets and pricing will always be a game of who has more information and individual consumers are *always* going to lose that battle. The next step of late stage capitalism is supposed to be seizure of the means of production. But what we currently do is demand regulations which just draw everything out and keep the perpetrators in charge. Monopolies and monopsonies are good; let them do their thing. It will eventually be their undoing.

  • @simoncaine9515
    @simoncaine9515Ай бұрын

    Absolutely agree. Personally I think legislation should be a last resort as I like to believe people and companies will just do the right thing. But we're now at the stage it is needed 😒

    Roku has turned a corner with this move. Not that long ago, Roku was a startup that gave customers what they wanted, and they grew fast. But once a company becomes powerful, they too often make a decision to take their eyes off their customer and put it on money. Serving customer needs is no longer important. Now, getting their hands on customer money is the focus. Anti-customer actions follow, such as this dumb move they made. Customer service is now viewed as a liability, so they make cuts. As for me, I made my own business decision in response to theirs: I will not buy from Roku any more. I'm not their piggy bank to be raided.
