    You can still do pullups. Do you have DBs? You can do row varieties. If you look around, surely you can find a place to do some sort of chest supported DB rows. I like to use cables myself, but you don't need them to get a good back workout.

    Why decrease intensity of effort on the 2nd & 3rd sets? Why not 3 sets to failure, or even make the last a drop set? What's the rationale?

  • @JonniShreve

    @JonniShreve

    10 күн бұрын

    Totally get your question, and it's great. We have a black-and-white view of intensity! So, I get why your questions on not going to failure on the last set instead of the first. But you naturally lose strength and energy as you go deeper into the workout. So while energy is high, we can put that into the setm to faiure, then the next set, TENSION is at its highest rather than trying to use what little energy you have left for our set. But in the end we can increase intensity by making the rep harder, set longer, or weight heavier. whats important is that set to set TENSION stays high.

    If you're 60 years old, can you rest 3 minutes between sets?

  • @Raey_Thoven

    @Raey_Thoven

    11 күн бұрын

    3 minutes sound fine. But, only you know how long you need. If you still feel pretty fatigued or not ready for the next set by 3 mins, you can rest for up to 5 mins. There's more variables to be considered, but I'd say this is generally good advice if you're doin things right

  • @tonysims9892

    @tonysims9892

    11 күн бұрын

    I'm 55 and the best answer I can offer regarding rest times is to always pay attention to your body, breath, and heart rate. If I'm pushing a particular set really hard, I give myself 30 seconds before I start the rest timer and usually go 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. However, if I'm strength training, it's almost always a 3 minute minimum to 5 minutes rest time. Blood pressure is real thing and be sure to always loosen your straps, wraps, and belts as soon as done to recover faster.

  • @Capt-Bryan

    @Capt-Bryan

    11 күн бұрын

    I am 63. 3 minutes is okay if you need it and are going to total failure. However, just do the minimum that you feel that you need which will vary depending on your exercise. For me, that is a little long using machines but is about right when doing barbell exercises like rows and deadlifts.
