Great for beginners, sure. But even if I had a dumbell big enough and was "holding it right" there's no way I'm holding 3 or 4 hundred pounds to get a good stimulus. It's a fact that super light weight does not stimulate much hypertrophy, this is a non debate.

My god......I swear you guys don't liaten...... Dr mike has explained in depth the reason why he doesn't like goblet squat he is using hypertrophy as a comparison between a goblet or a hacksquat hacksquatting is far more superior than goblet squats and I used goblet squats for years till I took dr Mike's advice and switched it for hacksquats plus hip adduction to make up for the lack of use of inner thighs while hacksquatting so before the fitness industry gets all freaked out listen to the words the man is saying !!! And he is right if you want bigger quads prioritize the hacksquat over the goblet squat trust me I had huge gains in 3 months doing hacksquat vs goblet squatting for years .....

I think the point of Jonni's video is that the goblet squat is a good exercise for many. We are all built differently, have different range of motions, different level of strength and for some...doing a the goblet squat is a good exercise. Jonni emphasized that it is especially good for beginners. In my case, my legs are not very strong due to never really being committed to leg workouts until recently. I workout at PF and they don't have a hack squat machine or barbells for free weights. They have a Smith machine and I feel like that is not a good machine to do squats on...at least not for me. I would imagine that attempting a hack squat on the Smith machine would be difficult too. So my focus is on doing lunges, goblet squats and leg presses because PF does have a leg press. I am currently teaching my daughter how to work out and I have been using the goblet squat as an introduction to squats for her. I have free weights at home and squat rack but we are still working on her form and I don't want her trying barbell squats until she develops better technique and strength in her legs.

@Kelkat66 all those things jhonny mentioned Dr mike also mentioned in depth in his video stating that the goblet is a good excercise however there are flaws and limitations therefore making it less hypertrophic what I hate about these videos is the fact that they are saying dr mike said the excercise is bad .....when he never said that he even explained that if you want bigger quads then stick to barbbell squat or hacksquat they are more challenging in different ways plus you can load more weight and not be limited to 1 dumbbell again he never said that they are bad he said they are less optimal for growth all these ppl sayin I disagree with mike he said goblet squats are bad clearly didn't really listen or watched his video with an open mind to learn.....

@@Kelkat66that is fantastic advice ....I work out at PF as well and I sort of hate the lack of equipment/proper machines! My location doesn't even have a lying hammy curl or a standing calf raise. I love warming up with Quad XTNs and seated hammy curls and then Leg Press Sled, Goblets(or DB Lunges) finishing up with Smith Machine Calf Raises and Glute Blaster machine. It's a simple workout but my legs feel it for 3 days😂. Great job teaching your daughter proper form especially keeping the back straight. I teach so many teenagers that are beginners using dangerous form. I hate getting in their business but I'd rather them not get hurt!

Don't force your opinion that may limit others ..it's great that works for you but Pendulum Squats are the by far best quad stimulus in a squat. Hack Squats and Standing Hacks are also hugely beneficial. My point is you shouldnt tell people to only Quad XTN and Smith Squat because 'you' say so. Everyone grows differently and what works for you might not necessarily be the best for someone else. I think as long as you are doing one good Squat movement, Quad XTNs, Hammys and calves, you are hitting legs completely 👍🏻
