Thanks for continuing to share content here on KZread! I thoroughly look forward to each episode!
Ooh, dusky pink and hot pink with the black will be like roses, very romantic for a wedding!
i appreciate how you tell us about the little tricks to get your projects looking their best, like knitting the backside of the cushion diagonally to give it more stability. so smart - thanks!
I really appreciate when you talk about how your sensory needs shape the way you knit and how you knit! I also get overwhelmed by bright contrast colours in my socks and had never considered that I could just do a contrast heel and not a contrast toe. 😂 I’m really looking forward to knitting up a few Stella cushion covers over Christmas
The sock decrease looks interesting and how much better it looks thankyou for tips on gloves lovely podcast you look fab x
I'm obsessed with the little green flecks in that brown/white yarn! I'd try to match that for the contrast 😍
Knitting math says that if buying one ball of fluff means you use up any part of your stash, it is basically free and and doesn’t count towards your stash
Brilliant! I've never commented on a podcast or anywhere else, but when I saw you turn the hat the other way out for the stripes I said aloud, "Laura Penrose, you are brilliant!" I hope you said that to yourself as well 😆
Hi Laura, you could also try an umbrella toe! You basically disperse the decreases around the whole toe in stead of the edges. I thought I wouldn’t like the look of it but I loved it, and It works great with an afterthought heel because it doesn’t have a “top” and “bottom”
You might like the umbrella toe that Kay Jones from the Bakery Bears puts in a lot of her socks. The decreases are all the way around so evens out the stress points and there are no seams. It’s my favourite toe 😊
I’m so excited for the release of your selbu rose cushion pattern! I think it’s beautiful and I will definitely buy it! I think it will be great for advent yarn knitting this year. Thank you! ✨✨✨
You might like a sock toe with German short row shaping. That was the first sock I learned, and the wrap and turn feature of the German short row offers a little more yarn at the corner where you are experiencing holes in your socks. It’s helped my husband to keep from wearing through his socks quite a bit.😊
On that beautiful brown/white speckled Christmas yarn would be perfect with a white heal.
Birdstreet yarns are so gorgeous, I reckon a foresty green for the heel - still with the Christmas theme but there are hints of green in there to tie it in 🥰 also I LOVED your styling of the slipover with your orangey dress, such a lovely look!
I recently discovered an anatomical toe which fits my foot much better than a wedge. I watched a video by the Bearded Purl and you just decrease every other round on one side only for 20 rounds total. Then decrease every round 5 or 6 times both sides. Of course you need to decrease on the opposite side for the other sock so you have a right and left sock. Happy holidays 😊
Insane amount of projects. Love seeing all of your work.
Hi Laura, I wasn't planning on adding any Christmas knits to my current WIP list, however I spotted your discount on Revelry over the weekend and couldn't resist the OG Sibling Sweater pattern. My grandson will be 3 at the end of the month and my granddaughter will be 1 in December so I think the pair of them will look adorable in matching sweaters if I can keep up my knitting mojo. I love your My Size in the navy and cream so much I think I may have to add it to my list of hopes and dreams for 2024. I just want to knit all the pretty things 🤭
So love the cushion
Haha! That made me laugh about him knowing or not about the sweater 😂
Dear Laura, Wow! You seem so happy and relaxed. Thinking back one year - what a difference. I‘m enjoying your podcasts no matter what, but it‘s such a joy to see you in the place you are now! This truly gives hope😊 I can‘t wait for vlogmas, this year will be the first year I will be able to watch it in real time (since I only discovered you early 2023 and watched the other vlogmases during spring and summer 😂). Wish you the best November, some beautiful late autumn days (yey🥳🥳🥳) and already now a lovely advent time 🤗 thank you for all you‘re doing!🧡🧶🧡
Grocery Girls shared your pattern!! Hello
I just adore Jeffrey’s hipster ❤
I love all your stuff right now!!! Cannot wait for the quilt star pillows & blanket when that happens. You seem very content in yourself and I appreciate you sharing your journey. Big love to you 🥰
I’ve been knitting toes decreases without the separating stitches for a few years. I don’t really like the thick panel in between. I called it a smooth toe. But lately I’ve been doing smooth toe on the top and one stitch in for decreases on the underside of the foot. I always knit for others so I don’t know how they wear, but I like the look of it better than the normal wedge toe. Always enjoy your podcasts, been watching since episode one.
I really like this filming area. The light flatters you and it just seems like a bright and cheery spot to broadcast from! I loved this inspiring, chatty video. I cant wait to see your new patterns!
Wow! you really have a lot of projects to show us! Lovely as always :)
just found you recently and love your channel your so cute and funny and a amazing designer love your designs i got your sweetshop blanket pattern and i am going to buy your sibling sweater very soon it looks so cozy warm a perfect fall/winter sweater looking forward to your new pillow design to
Your mini mock neck is fantastic. 🤩🤩🤩
Hi from Ontario Canada. Love your podcast. Waiting for that cardigan to be released
Such a comforting episode! Same here with ribbing in a small circumference. I’m now making kurasocks - and nearly everything else on her blog. No ribbing and they fit like a glove😊
Hi Laura! Just wanted to say that this podcast helped me work through an drawing assignment for my university. Just a way to keep knitting a part of my live when I barely have time to knit myself :)
Swooning over the John Arbon yarns! Always a pleasure to knit with you Laura! I've been working on my Daftdays testknit for Rebecca Clow while watching so I'm loving all the advent chat and inspiration! Though my heart is already set on a sweet shop blanket with a my advent yarn this year. ❤🎄
We call the star on the pillow a Selbu rose 🤩 so beautiful 🤩
Thank you for this episode. I’m new here and I enjoyed it so much. I love your cushion! (and the rest too!)
I love that you say “yarn makes it way to you” it seems to do the same for me. Lol
I’d love to make a cardy that matches the mock neck tank for a modern twinset. I need to poke around ravelry for a pattern I can adapt!
Your projects are all so beautiful, Laura! What a lovely podcast. It's nice to see you so happy. Oh ❤ those speckled socks! For toes, you might like to try the circular toe (Roxanne Richardson has a video). I wasn't crazy about how they look, but they fit really well, like an ergonomic toe, but you can wear your socks on either foot. And now i like how they look, too. Am excited about all your pattern release plans! Keep well! Very best wishes, fm Tracy
OOO, I would love to test knit that blanket. I have a bin of beautiful pink fingering and white which I want to use for a blanket. I was going to crochet but as a quilter I think a quilt based knit blanket would be fantastic!
Thanks for another lovely podcast! As for the ergonomic toe (DIY way) - I think you can just make the decreases on one side of the toebox (where the pinkie toe is) until the sock length reaches the nail of your big toe. Then you make a couple of decreases on the big toe side as well. I did something like that for my first pair of socks and it's worked out just fine. Yes, the sock is somewhat looser but there's no pressure and it still fits just fine in my shoes. I will say that there is a website where you can chart the decreases if you know what your gauge is and want to have a more proper recipe for them. Anwyway, I'm curious to see what you come up with!
Great podcast! I’ve started using Kay Jones’ (the Bakery Bears) umbrella toe method..it’s nice and looks nice.😊
When I decided to knit socks I thought I would try the Fish Lips Kiss heel that you can find on Ravelry. The heel uses short rows and it gives the heel a more commercial construction. I didn't care for the usual toe construction as I too have a toe that is longer than the big toe. So I now have used this technique for my toe as well. The only drawback is having to kitchner it closed but when finished it looks super and is soooo comfy. Give it a try! BTW I love your podcasts.
Ooh you really need to visit Kate at Northern yarn when you go to Lancaster! Well worth a visit you won't be disappointed, she has her own brand she selects the fleeces and gets made up and dyed. Also Ethel and Em are wonderful too! Check out Knitty natty for her ergonomic toe, she has patterns and tutorials ☺️ another lovely episode!
I would do one red heel with a pop off green on the cuff and the opposite on the other. Or green pop on cuff and red heel for both. Or vice versa.
I have stated knitting my toes so that there is clearly a left and right toe. I don't decrease as often on the big toe side and I Kitchener more stitches across my toes, typically 10 on each needle. It gives me a more comfortable fit and less stress on the decrease "seams". I develop thick calluses pretty easily on the outside edge of my big toe and my heel so I adjust my sock knitting to try to accommodate that. Quite the finished object parade. I really like the slipover.
I made so many hipster hats, I can only say, the fault is of the basic material I used. The superwash type of materials ended in a very loose material. The last one I made on a combo of merino and cashmere and used the woman size for a 5 year old. Is perfect :) and also a combination of rust and dark blue ❤
I love how your sibling sweater always looks black and white but your slipover is obviously navy blue, that tickels my nuerodivergent brain. I love the Stella Quilt Cushion and the stars and I said "oh I might buy that pattern and make a blanket" but you'll be releasing a blanket version, so I'll just wait for that 😂. I have also been thinking about my own sensory needs when picking projects and yarns now. I have moved pretty much to only cotton because it feels the best next to skin and I don't over heat if I want to layer them in the colder months. Also choosing more loosely piled or blown yarns because heavy garments are the worst.
If you want to try a top down ribbed hat, I HIGHLY recommend the Porty by Ysolda!
Awwww it’s so great to see all your finished projects… Maybe just maybe you can knit Mr. Penrose a Sibling Sweater?!?!? ❤👏👏👏

I tried to persuade him but he’s not a fan of stripes! Wondering why I married him 🤣🤣
Lovely podcast as always. Wondering if you’ve tried a toe/heel with multiple decreases like the Umbrella toe from Kay Jones of the Bakery Bears or the Beanie Toe by Jooles of Sew Sweet Violet. They would spread the decreases across the whole toe so possibly less strain than having a seam on either side which can be prone to holes.

I have tried a round toe but hated the way it feels on the end of my toes, if there was a round toe but Kitchener finishing that could work!

@@_laurapenrose_ I’ve done that on a rounded toe for the same reason so I Kitchener the final stitches instead of threading the yarn through and pulling it closed. It feels much more secure that way as well. Have even done it on hats as well.
What if you did a CDD center double decrease at the toe of your socks? That would eliminate the center threads that connect the decreases.

That’s a great idea, I’ll try it next time! X
Hi, does your new pattern Stella quilt cushion have short rows? Thank you so much.

Yes, lots! It has a full video tutorial though if you’re new to short rows! X
You mentioned in this video that you’ll be traveling alone. Do you think you could make a video about tips for solo traveling as a neurodivergent person, if you have any? I think that would be very informative and fun to watch! No pressure, just thought I’d throw the idea out there!

I won’t actually be travelling alone! I’ll be driving up to Lancaster with a friend! And to be honest, travelling alone isn’t something I’ve ever struggled with so I’m not sure I’d have much to say on the matter! X
Could you share the hat pattern?

It’s the Hipster Hat by PetiteKnit x
I have a recomendation for you. Emilykate made this

If you're in Lancaster, you absolutely have to visit Northern Yarn ~ you will love it! Kate, the owner, has so much knowledge of British yarn, as well as her own brand ❤
