I am 76 and O-. My husband was A+ and a vegetarian when we married 53 years ago. He died three years ago and was on a pharmacy diet. I never needed pharmacy drugs. primarily on a vegetarian diet I ‘needed’ to go to our local diner at lunch by myself and order liver and onions every three months or so. I also like my red meat ‘lightly’ cooked. And I don’t like any pork products. So I naturally drifted to a diet that is comparable to white energized me personally.

I don't think they cooked or for that matter fasted, I think they had prepared meals and rations on board which could be consumed even while in the grip of a north sea storm. You waisted your money. Researchers from the University of Toronto (U of T) have found that the theory behind the popular blood type diet--which claims an individual's nutritional needs vary by blood type--is not valid. The findings are published this week in PLoS One. "Based on the data of 1,455 study participants, we found no evidence to support the 'blood-type' diet theory," said the senior author of the study, Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy, Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Nutrigenomics at the U of T. "The way an individual responds to any one of these diets has absolutely nothing to do with their blood type and has everything to do with their ability to stick to a sensible vegetarian or low-carbohydrate diet," said El-Sohemy.

@@GeneticsLessons The studies I've seen are flawed because they're not looking for certain outcomes, only for cholesterol levels and so on. I have Blood Type O+. Just explain to me why I, a vegetarian-turned-pescatarian for over three decades, was getting sicker and sicker with constant, unremitting heartburn, retaining fluid in my feet and lower legs (with the accompanying inflammation of my lower legs,) very painful knees almost all the time, and worrisome skin discolorations such as red blotches and bruised-looking areas? Instead of walking up the stairs, I was dragging myself upstairs by the railing because my knees hurt so much and my legs felt so heavy. I was nearly 70 years old and increasingly concerned about my health. Then, I ate beef one evening so as not to hurt the feelings of the people who brought it to me - and that night and the next morning I had no heartburn for the first time in 15 years. I was bewildered and did online research, coming across the correct diet for Blood Type O (according to this "theory,") and I changed my diet that very day. Five days later I noticed to my shock that my knees didn't hurt at all. Within a week the fluid retention issue had greatly improved and my legs looked pink, not red. Now, almost three months into the diet for my blood type, the water retention is nearly gone and my skin looks normal, AND I haven't had heartburn since that first evening I ate the beef so as not to hurt my guests. Also, I walk up my stairs like a normal human being again. EXPLAIN IT.

Great to find someone sharing this. I read the blood type book many years ago. It wasn't until late 2019 when I discovered the keto diet that I got good results with it. I had a near fatal auto accident when I was 23 in 1990. I was in a coma for two weeks and had to learn how to do everything again. I've struggled all my adult life with the pain from the orthopedic injuries and a slowed metabolism. A short time after starting keto my inflammation went down and I could walk straighter. Once I cut my carbs down to about 20 grams per day, my body told me what I needed... not clouded by the deception of the carbs. I craved beef. I became more of a ketovore. My limp in my hip that I had for over 30 years was gone within two weeks. The first time that I saw my dentist after starting keto, he commented that my TMJ was gone. I started intermittent fasting because eating nutrient dense food and fat naturally lessened my appetite. Unfortunately I was knocked down onto a piece of slate in July 2021 and had the top of my femur broken off... and I had an ankle replacement in December 2021. My mobility was limited and my eating habits changed. And, I'm now post menopause. So, I'm working to get back into the routine that helped me so much. In fact yesterday at a thrift store I came across a book by Jason Fung on fasting. Guess I've got some work to do. But, despite the setbacks I feel better at 55 than I have for my entire adult life. I feel younger than I did in my late 20's. I like how you said to use the book as a guideline... but adjust it to you so that you can be more successful at it. One thing that I decided to not follow years ago was staying away from pickled foods. I've loved vinegar, pickles, kimchi, etc. They have done my body well I believe. The way that I look at it is that before refrigerators, food was salted, cured or pickled. With an O negative blood type, I'm an old blood type that likes old preservation methods. Mmm... pickles and bacon... Thanks for all your information Doctor.

The old way to "pickle" foods was to allow it to naturally ferment with salt and the juices extracted in the process tho. So maybe forced pickling with vinegar is the problem. It doesn't make sense tho unless it's because of the white vinegar which is an avoid, but apple cider vinegar is ok. Hmmm So, maybe natural ferments are ok as long as they are of approved veggies. I wonder if any fermented are approved...

Type O+ right here. I also have this book. It is a very Interesting read. I went vegan several years ago and I lost weight like crazy. But I began to notice changes in how I felt both mentally and physically. I assumed that I was probably deficient in certain nutrients even though I was taking vitamin supplements (yes, including B12). So I reintroduced animal products back into my diet gradually, starting with organic pasture raised eggs. I want to embrace this diet completely, eating only those foods that are best suited for my blood type and see if I can eliminate as many health issues as I can!

The blood type group is just something a person made up. It is not a proven system. Just a reminder that you were never vegan because veganism is an ethical lifestyle for life for the animals to end their abuse and suffering as much as possible. It is something we never turn away from. When it is done correctly we have all the nutrients we need for a healthy life because all nutrients, including protein come from plants. I'm type O, 70 and vegan. No problems. My conscience is clear because I'm not part of the suffering and bloodshed which other people take part in. Meat has been proven to be carcinogenic as are dairy products.

"The way an individual responds to any one of these diets has absolutely nothing to do with their blood type and has everything to do with their ability to stick to a sensible vegetarian or low-carbohydrate diet," said El-Sohemy.

This man is so easy to listen to , as I have always been about good health. I’ve always believed nothing is by happenstance. I found this channel on purpose, for good purpose. My daughter has Lupus and is type O . As her personal nutritionist at this time, I was led by the Holy Spirit to feed her lots of grass fed meat. I also remember reading the blood type book many years ago. Today your channel pops up and I know it’s just the Most High Yah. 🙏🏽 Hallelujah for confirmation. Now that I’ve been preparing lots of grass fed meat ; she has better days. We’ve come a long way. She has been extremely sick. I subscribed immediately, no doubt I’ll be listening to more of your content! What a blessing 💯

While listening to you I was saying,"That sounds like Eat Right 4 Your Type". I found that book in the 90's and have been following the recommendations ever since (it's coming apart). I use to have horrible allergies. Medication didn't help. I came across that book and realized I was eating so many wrong foods for my blood type. I eliminated the food's and you know what, I feel so much better. My allergies start during January & February, I start sneezing. i'll take something homeopathic and sneezing stops. Sometimes I do cheat. I'd eat wheat cookies, then feel the effects from eating them. I would highly recommend that book to everyone

How the hell does one “do” a low-carb plant-based diet. You’re either talking out of the end of your arse or you just absolutely know nothing about vegan vegetarian diet in relation to carbs. It is an absolute impossibility to go low carb on a vegan vegetarian diet. Oh wait, What do I know? 64-year-old I’ve been vegan vegetarian for 40 years plus I have a BS degree in Biology & Nutritive Sciences UIC, ‘83 & an RD.

Any common info on low carb says even 40-50g of carbs is low. What a miserable way FOR THE LONG Term. If someone has significant weight to lose then that is different. But for long term Life style, under 50 gm keeps me happy. Only good carbs. Have journaled my food for yrs, I am turning 74.

How long have you been a vegan though? My daughter has been a vegan for a couple of years and she felt fantastic up until recently. Her running has decreased and she missed her last marathon. She can only seem to work part time but can't seem to manage full time. She looks pale and a bit wasted. She doesn't argue with me all the time anymore haha, which might be a sign of lack of energy idk. I hardly eat any red meat myself, only in secret, because I don't want to disgust her and I'm fatigued and tired all the time. She doesn't seem to mind me eating fish and chicken, but is always hinting about veganism and making me feel guilty. I'm guessing she felt so great at first because she probably needed a detox, as we all do. Also, it's the principal of the matter, she felt she was doing the right thing by not eating animals. And how I wish that I didn't need to eat my animal friends. I tried giving up meat in 2015 and was ill withing 6 months, don't feel like risking that again just yet. Maybe your high cholesterol was due to eating too much meat? Also, our meat is contaminated these days. Maybe for red meat once or twice a week is enough, but I'm not an expert. I wish you luck on your vegan journey, keep us updated. Much love from Brighton UK ❤

I’m always feeling awful with Lyme coinfections, and don’t really eat to a plan e cost no grains, VERY little sugar, no dairy, no soy, only certain oils, etc., but I’m going to try this because I feel better eating meats because the red blood cells are attacked by a live parasite in the tick-borne family. I’m dizzy and pasty looking, and my stress levels are sky high every day as I’m caregiver for my adult disabled son, who gets violent, and I’m very tiny! It’s a nightmare!

I lost 18 lbs and never put it back on. I eat anything I want but am also a disciplined eater. Try not to eat after 4 - 5 pm every day. Also have problems with dairy products and haven't had cows milk in ages. Cheeses especially can fatten me up so I avoid them except for Parmesan and Romano. Except for hamburger, I don't eat much red meat. Eat pork and chicken, dislike roast beef as I think it stinks. I make my own salad dressings and mostly cook my own meals from scratch. No Tv dinners and very little canned food. Read labels folks. I never used to but in today' world they put too much junk in our food, so read labels.

O type here and due to autoimmune disease, have a fairly strict ketogenic diet and also have food sensitivity testing about once a year. Ironic ( with 2-3 exceptions) that what is recommended for blood type O is generally what I do eat ( minus the organ meats - but could take Ancestral supplements for this) So, my 20% not recommended foods will be avocado and bacon, which I only eat about 1-2 times a week anyway. Very interesting and thanks for sharing. BTW, squid always comes up as the highest inflammatory food for my system. Never tried it, don’t plan on trying it. 😂 After reading a few comments will add that my auto immune disease is type 1 diabetes and yes, I intermittent fast daily, not getting hungry until around dinner time. I don’t have an endocrinologist as they think I am ‘nuts’ for keeping a low A1C ( non diabetic normal range), and not eating the recommended 5 meals a day. My functional doctor would like my A1C a bit higher, just for safety, but doesn’t say anything about my diet as my blood panels are good. Just saw eye doctor today, no glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts or retinal neuropathy-68 YO female. Diet is EVERYTHING!

Your story sounds similar to mine. I’m also a 68 year old female, but after 20 years of toxin illnesses (HUGE understatement!), I now have Lyme coinfections which are in my red blood cells (O +), and I’m extremely anemic, lightheaded, pasty looking, etc. I think I need a ton of meat, which I’ve never cared for much, but luckily, I found the grass-fed beef organ capsules, which help immensely!

Purchased the book in 2008, & did the diet. It works‼️ Some foods you'll love & others you'll hate...find what works for you. I was vegetarian for 13 years, but learned I have anemia common in Scandinavian descents 😳. Required to eat read meat, of which I'm not a fan. Chicken (yard bird) is my protein of choice, right up there with Turkey & plethora of seafood . Luv the fruits & veggies on the diet. With monthly injections 4 pernicious anemia-this Diet works very well 4 me...#babyboomer 😉 #reformerpilaties #yoga 🙏🏽

I've never even heard anything like this and it sounds wonderful..I'm type O and older and I'm hoping eating this way will help me avoid muscle tears lifting weights..I know it can't be worse than anything else I've tried ..Maybe I wasn't getting what I needed nutrition wise
