@@dbo3akrowdy Remake's combat issues are still there. For example, combating an enemy in the air is still awkward, especially with the arbitrary need to use an ATB attack to fling your character into the air so you can button mash dodge or square to fly around in a locked circle. I think the combat is fun enough, but if you didn't like Remake's combat I don't see Rebirth changing that sentiment. P.S. I like the game so I'm not complaining, but it's not an objectively perfect combat system.

From Final Fantasy II, III, Breath of Fire, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, and well into the Playstation days with Final Fantasy VII, Parasite Eve, and Xenogears. I never understood the argument that they couldn’t remake Final Fantasy VII. Like it’s your fucking job to develop video games. There are other games that are just as expansive as the original game made by microscopic studios. The template and the content is already there. You just have to make it look better than it did 25 years ago. I get that that’s probably not very exciting for a game developer, but if that’s the case then don’t announce that you’re remaking it.

@@RealEvilLordExdeath No, there are many problems and I know a lot of people my age draw the line at FFX being where the franchise started to fall off. Another example is how Skyrim is popular, but tons of people like myself who like Morrowind and Oblivion consider it a massive downgrade. Some other issues with X were its poor level design or should I say hallway design and the writing was a huge step down from the previous six entries. Bad dialogue and bad story with poorly written villains and side characters. Pretty weak soundtrack outside of two or three of the most popular tracks. I could go on. And even thought skyrim is a downgrade from morrowind and oblivion gameplay wise, thats true, its still very much a elders scrolls game and a really good one. Because it has all the elements that make the previous games good, it just sinplyfied some of them. But combat, worldbuilding, charakterbuilding, complexity of skills like alchemy, enchanting etc is still the same. Same goes with final fantasy X: The gameplay outside of battle is the same, the charakters are not worse then in any other final fantasy or do you call charakters like Xell and Selphy well written? While we have charakters like wakka who Status of as a religious racist but changes very much in the story or Tidus who starts of as an arrogant idiot but changes or Auron who sewms loke the Standart "hes so cool" Charakter until u see hom break in his past. The combat is different, but it feels like the next step, much more than what ever 12, 13, 15 amd 16s combat should be. The hallway dungeons are not as good as previous dungeons, there im with you, but thats true for All modern games. The Problem here is mostly because prerendered backgrounds are a thing from the past, sadly. Somehow i get the feeling u never played X, u just watched some youtube hate on it online. Because i dont know any final fantasy Fan that hates X, i not even know anyone who doesnt say its one of the top entries.

Frankly speaking, the moment you introduce multiverse theory and time travel into any franchise is the moment you have to realize the current directors and writers are 99.9% of the time going to massively fuck it up. These people can't even comprehend just how bloody painful and insanity inducing it is to try to explain that you cannot have a multiverse, time travel and a concept of destiny in one bloody place! If the multiverse exists then destiny is always whatever transpires within that set timeline and anything can happen thus the planet reacting to any "deviations" makes no sense. If there is no multiverse then Sephiroth's time travel shenanigans are doomed to fail as he cannot meddle with the creation of the current him without being trapped in an infinite loop of trying to alter his own fate. This is the same problem I have with bioshock infinite's BS ending....the writers forgot a basic principle. We are the sum of our past...change anything and we ourselves change as a person. If those changes to ourselves contradict the desire to go to the past in the first place it resets everything back to the original set of events that transpired in the first place. In short welcome to time travel purgatory...it's not your first time here but you sure as hell won't know that. At least...this is just my perception on it. I could be just as wrong so take this with a grain of salt.

I loved the Remake and so did the vast majority. It’s only purists that can’t handle any change at all that dislike Nomura. And did any of you idiots stop to think that maybe they added the whisperers to throw people off to make them THINK you can change the outcome. And the surprise element is gone, so the fact that you can potentially change what happens is potentially the smartest thing they could do. Nobody and nobody is safe. So you can still potentially feel that sense of loss that was in the original, while also potentially being surprised.

I am with you on this. As much as people hate when a remake doesn't change enough, there needs to be a limit. Like, some things can be changed, but some are "sacred" if you will. And the changes made need to have a damned good reason, otherwise they are unnecessary. It's like people who look up a recipe on google, then you see their comment about it saying "Loved it, but we had to change *this, that, the other thing* " and by the time they are done changing it, it can't be called the same recipe. Like, just make a brand new one instead of changing someone else's.

@Caio Coelho Remake and reimagination are NOT the same thing. The only way both FF7 and the remake can "co-exist" is if they continue the ORIGINAL story in it's own game. Until then, the original is still just the original game that released in the 90's. And the remake is seen as "FF7 but modern" which it isn't. I wonder how many new gamers are going to think this is how it always was because they never got to see the original FF7. This is a cluster-fuck of KH-esque timeline fuckery and unnecessary changes. If we give them a pass on these changes, it's only a matter of time before FF7 becomes unrecognizable.

It very well sums up my feelings surrounding this" remake" I've got into so many debates about these games. If you play this game and enjoy it, good for you. I'm honestly shocked at how many OG fans profess that they believe that the remake is the greatest thing they've ever seen. Some would even say better than the original. It makes me wonder how many OG fans are really out there. How many people are saying that they are OG Fans but have never REALLY played the original game. The reason I say that is because if you had played the original game and recieved the incredible experience and feelings of emotions from the game like I did, It seems to me that you would not so frivolously invite, accept, and welcome this non cannon, fan fiction BS into the final fantasy VII universe. For me, I do not acknowledge final fantasy 7 remake or rebirth as cannon. They are just fan fiction. I feel very fortunate to be able to say that I'm old enough to have played final fantasy 7 in it's purest form before all this nonsense and that I got to experience that journey. The in town NPC dialogue is the most inconsistent mirroring their lazier copy paste ugly designs, but I think the humor scales upward with the main cast and dedicated side characters being pretty good most of the time. I disagree the writing is bad because a lot of it builds off a subtle detail from earlier in the game or even Remake.

  • @interdimensionalharmony

Some of the serious stuff can actually be the problem for me with Rebirth's writing because I find it executed more poorly than the humor. An example being escaping Kalm where I feel the level design needed to be more tight and have your characters animate peering around corners or something along those lines because it definitely feels like those Shinra security officers are blind. Conversely, the 7th infantry unit in Junon is fine with me for that part of the game because it makes sense to me that you would have to be around incompetent security forces for everything that is happening story wise to work. So with the two biggest moments in the game involving the security officers, I felt the humorous one was the better written scenario.

I'll say this, the nomura fanboys are just too much at this point, but...kingdom hearts 1 as a stand alone project was a beast of a game with severely underated themes. The game held a deeper meaning than most people and fans alike cared to acknowledge, it's a shame really so much so that the later titles were never meant to exist, it was meant to be a one and done package. Like the Bible of video games, and biblical themes were littered throughout the project just like many other final fantasy projects. With it's success came forced sequels and poorly written stories because well, he accomplished the tale he chose to tell with that first title. Just like versus 13, that title was meant to be very much political like ff8 but more so. "A fantasy based on reality" hmm. Nomuras story telling could be a storm nobodys ready for but, isnt allowed to tell those stories by the corporate suits .past final fantasys and RPGs in squares arsenal were driven by deep political beliefs and religious or worldy veiws. But people hardly ever pick up on them. Go back and play some past titles and you'll see them scattered everywhere. Play ff15,kh2,3 and other recent enix titles and they're sparse. There's no soul in these current RPGs thus no driving force to tell deeply woven tales

It's not just the remake that completely destroyed the themes of the original. Crisis core did that a lot too, especially regarding freedom, honour, and heroism. Almost none of those words are ever defined and just stay as nebulous ideals to motivate Zack. But what is freedom? In the OG, it's the freedom to choose what gives your life *meaning*. The original cast of FF7 (including Zack) follow this theme. Zack chose to save Cloud despite the lack of glory or honour that would be presented to him in return. But in CC it's just "wings and the sky" and "the freedom to move around and do what you want". I just hate how it's poisoned the fandom. It just feels so surface-level that talking about normal literary themes starts to sound pretentious.

Here's the thing.... Nomura himself is a Nightmare in human skin. I'm terrified of seeing his name as a director. The fighting system is absolutely fantastic. And I LOVE. Crossdressing cloud. But...This game...There's so many problems that make this scary. 1) This game's gameplay is shockingly dated. The gameplay is also incredibly Illogical compared to FF15. (Cloud can superman jump in cutscenes but can't climb over a container? The fuck? Noctis can Jump...so it can be done...so wtf...) 2) Nomura is a nightmare writer...He wrote that literary nightmare that is FF15 and he wrote ALL of KH. That incredible insanity that is KS's plot. And at the end he gave himself the liscense to literally turn the remake into a reboot. It's not a remake. He literally wrote the characters murdering the literal "Enforcers of Continuity" so that he can do whatever he wants with the game. And that is genuinely terrifying. 3) Now that the continuity of FF7 has literally ended, We could be seeing anywhere between 3 to 10 FF7 Episodes...and that's hilariously not an hyperbole. If you know his KH work, you know he can take FF7 and run straight to hell with it and no one can honestly say he wouldn't do it. 4) I love how he fleshed out the characters, but...the problem is, it was marketed as a remake...not a reboot. A reboot is taking the look and feel of a game, and rebuilding the story line and even adding or removing characters on top of modernizing it. A remake, Takes past content, and modernizes it. Sure EP1 Is a 75% remake...but everything else is a reboot. FF7 Remake, ISN'T bad...but it's terrifying...because now that "The Arbitor of Fate" is dead. It's the wild west and Nomura's got a gun...and none of us are safe... If...and IF...he is capable of learning from his past works...FF7R...COULD be amazing...but it could also be total garbage. also, Hey Y2Ber guy. He looks feminine cause of that flipping canon crossdressing scene. If he doesn't look feminine enough, how is the Don supposed to believe cloud is a girl = 3= Ofc he's a pretty boy. It's not really hard to make a bunch of blocks look pretty other than giving it a pretty dress and extensions. That doesn't fly when you're rocking more than 5,000 pixels per character model = 3=

It really is annoying how people will try to paint any male character who doesn't exude outright masculinity as homosexual when the reality is that in the real gay dating world (I'd know, I'm gay), most gay men tend to be attracted to masculinity and the muscly jock/bodybuilder types are what a lot of gay men tend to like. The genre called "Bara" is very popular in Japan and it is made by Gay men and the theming and art is all masculine in tone and stone while Yaoi tends to be made by women and follows how a lot of women in Japan tend to like softer and feminine-like guys (look at the popularity of J-Pop & K-Pop Boy bands for example). So it really gets annoying how some people (usually Americans from what I notice) get all bent out of shape and think it's gay when a male character is not hyper masculine when the irony is that masculinity is something that a lot of gay men like.

the worst thing about this whole mess is given the universal adulation of the game from people that have no idea what they are talking about you can feel the pressure to like the thing that your body is rejecting like a virus. a sort of self gaslighting occurs where you think perhaps im just not seeing what these others are seeing. but the differences in the fan base are stark. modern fans want to date tifa and draw fan fiction of her. i just wanted to see her get trained by zangan and recover from the damage the past wouldve done to her. modern fans want to see jesse flirt with cloud. real fans enjoyed the justification of her joining avalanche. there is room for a remake. but not by the people currently there at square enix

Little bit late to the party but everything you said is true. Wish more people saw this. Nomura's writing in KH was fine (haven't played KH3 yet) because your party literally consist of Donald Duck who somehow uses MAGIC and Goofy who fights with a SHIELD. So already, all sense and expectation of reality is pre-subverted. But when you bring this hack into the environment of an established and beloved storyline with serious tones and carefully crafted relationships, and completely veto it to interject your own fan fiction while having the audacity to simply title the game "Final Fantasy VII Remake", it is incredibly disingenuous and frankly a scam. But people love the pretty graphics and the 4 action packed cutscenes so whatever right.

Can anyone come up with a good answer to why they didn't make a faithful recreation with new graphics ala Resident Evil 2-4? Worst of all is that according to everyone except me and a small few, the FF7 remake is great, and was a GOTY contender. This ensures more garbage in the future. And here the problem his style never changed, he knows how to make cool looking scene and set pieces. He not a writer he has ideas that works on a visual standpoint his first idea on a Final Fantasy was VersusXiii which turned to FFXV however it was considered too dark because the original plot was about a kingdom Yakuza style death worshippers hence why it was heavily censored and altered because Square didn't want to make two verison of the game one internationally and one for China. And don't get me started on Kingdom Hearts on how Nomura basically decided get creative controll because the original writer left after Kh2.

There are some things I forgot to say in my first reply (essentially, additional thoughts on this video), but screw it; I’m gonna say the rest of it here and now, just because I can I don’t buy their excuse to make it episodic, because there are games that are actually over 200GB worth of File Size with no strings attached, and FFXIV, which actually has a far bigger world than Remake’s Midgar, is comfortably standing between 40 and 60GB, depending on the platform, so they could’ve done the full package easily with their own tools... but if they insisted on keeping it episodic, a “Remake”, and having Part 1 be Midgar-only, they should’ve allowed us to explore *all* of Midgar, not just re-imagined versions of original locations. Aside from the mistakes within the game, I liked how they redid some moments from the original (changed Cloud dressing up as a girl to a dance session, followed by a bunch of Honeybees dressing him up as a girl afterwards, or maybe the fact that Rufus is now hella tough to beat, or a few more changes), and I thought many of the voice actors nailed and/or brought new life into select roles- especially John Eric Bentley’s portrayal of Barret- and I did think that, despite complaints on the episodic nature, they did surprisingly well with further fleshing out characters and locations (I know because I see a lot more Jessie fanart than ever before), even if I wish they actually kept it faithful to the original... and of course, the soundtrack will never not be phenomenal. Despite the long list of negatives (more on that in a bit), I actually found that there was more positives than negatives overall. Even though it has some positives, I will not hide the overwhelming negatives either... and trust me: there are far more than what the video listed. If you’re okay with more spoilers, let me list the additional mistakes one-by-one: 1. I kid you not, Sephiroth appears once every 1-3 cutscene(s) to haunt Cloud just because he can, and it reaches a point where he gets more screentime than half of all other characters 2. We got a new character named Roche who is quite literally an anime maniac with a Red Bull-infused motorcycle, and that’s all there is to his character 3. Despite the Plot Ghosts trying to keep everything like the original, they (and the writers) forget about some things, such as letting Wedge live... until they throw him out a window near the end to kill him for real 4. Near the end, Sephiroth actually kills Barret, then the plot ghosts revive him not 5 seconds later... by the way, that’s my personal non-favourite of all the mistakes 5. Before the ending, you fight a giant purple monster made up of the plot ghosts, and then after beating them, you fight Sephiroth almost exactly how you would in Advent Children 6. And of course... any form of subtlety in whatever foreshadowing we got to Aerith’s death in the original is now painfully on-the-nose in a way that makes it appear like they can’t decide whether they want to hide it or not 7. Worst of all, the ending sends the gang to an alternate universe Either way, against all odds, I might still buy this game if it comes to PC due to my nerdy desire for a Cloud Power Fantasy... but as sad as it is to say, that’s all it has going for it.

If there was no overlap between them, you’d be correct, but that’s not how it is. If I wrote a 10/10 review on the game saying, “OMG NOMURA IS GOD TAKE MY MONEY NOW”, or I was to buy it when a ton of people were boycotting it like they should me, that would be a different story. Returning back to this (because it's a great video to listen to and you should do more) your remark on Cloud's appearance is very striking to me because it is one I immediately think of and try to make to others. A pre-internet masculinity of being more stoic with the eyes telling the story in an almost telepathic manner. His chin is pointy in a feminine way and other features. It's hard to explain be he just doesn't have that molded SOLDIER look to him in a world as harsh as his. It's all very contemporary (his look and demeanor) even though being tough is an eternal physical and mental being which just furthers makes it clear it's for new fans and people are aren't aware of more older/eternal ideals. I miss the ambience/ether of pre-internet life where you could almost read the atmosphere instantly between people and they understood your role. Sephiroth is meant to be a top man amongst men but he just looks dorky and sad. Real shame because the game and characters I just mentioned have been phenomenal through my younger days and had the potential to be even greater with the advent of technology that the PS4 offers. Perhaps, Sakaguchi's absence has pained it's development but also the people on our side of the world are probably too tainted to even understand the purity of what we are wanting. Hopefully, you get the point I am trying to make. You should make more videos as well. Its nice to hear from those of a similar age and know the actual way it should have been done.

One theory I've come up with recently is that nomura is throwing a shit fit on a massive scale because he got kicked off Final Fantasy Versus 13, which became FF15. He's pissed at the very concept of Final Fantasy, so he's intentionally destroying Final Fantasy 7's chance at a remake [unless the episodic mobile game counts lol], as well as totally derailing his own project, Kingdom Hearts, by eradicating any presence of Final Fantasy in KHIII and seemingly forcing a barely changed version of his FFV13 story into that universe. Like KH is weird but the Yozora stuff introduced in III is totally out of KH's established feel. Hell, one of Yozora's cutscenes is an almost shot-for-shot recreation of that FFV13 trailer with Noctis in the back seat of the car looking edgy and angsty. And if you've seen the teaser stuff for KH IV, oh dear God, they've TOTALLY changed the art style and now it's going for photorealism same as Final Fantasy. He's just being a child.

The point being that I wouldn't have been angry about ff7r if they had at least kept the core story in tact, but they didn't. It's not as though they just cut a couple of scenes here and there, or just added more, they straight up changed fundamentally what the plot is actually about... This is not final fantasy 7, it is a bad fan fiction and I am so fucking sad to see how they butchered probably the greatest gaming experience ever produced. I will stick to just playing a heavily moded original ff7, the new week shit and the new shitty fans that got on board with KH and ff13 can honestly go fuck themselves. FF was a legacy, a true juggernaut of gaming ruined by pandering to weebs that think another variation of "emo time traveling with parallel universes" is good story telling. You can separate Final Fantasy's quality from X onwards. Until X you got a right narritive in one package. After that it's BS.
