I'm troubled by how people have begun to overlook the godless humanism of Rapture, to pretend Bioshock was some kind of bad, propaganda game. Infinite had an inherently flawed narrative. Bioshock prime, in its vacuum, had a point. There's even a recording in the game where a mother journals her regret over leaving the surface and selling the rest of her life to a completely synthetic environment, when her child screams in terror at seeing a tree in the gardens, thinking it's a monster. Like is that some kind of leftist talking point? Right-wingers always seem to be among the ones advising people stay out of the big cities, after all, and I think they are right.

I kind of agree. But I dont think old core developers like Nomura, Kitase, Nojima, are to blame. I blame it on the video game market. Infact, the irony of this all, is that we complain and accuse Square of chasing money. But Square still fails to make Final Fantasy become #1 on the market for the sake of being #1, and yet, their games are considered milkers? One thing that doesn't make sense with any of this in the video, is that we contrastingly have you claiming FFX-2 is some kind of cash grab, now granted, some of it looks superficial, but the story also concludes a lot of things we didn't know thru x that fans wanted to know. But FFX-2 also leaves newer questions, and this is why old time FFX fans want a FFX-3 because they want an even more grandeur conclusive story on Tidus and Yuna. A lot of these arguments fall flat and you don't seem to be doing your homework. FFXI was heavily influenced by Sakaguchi and as well as other younger devs, as Sakaguchi at the time was engrossed in EverQuest. This is when MMOs were starting to rise. FFXI has some of the most unique story telling in Final Fantasy and although its Story Telling was less intense and immersive as FFX's was, FFXI offered its own unique style of story telling, that was very much untapped in MMOs. To complain about grinding MMOs is contradictory because Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest were cemented around the concept of grinding levels. FFXI's grinding isn't even that bad compared to something like FFV, or FFVII, or FFII. Sakaguchi when he left Square and was fired, He left with a warning to Nomura, that they cannot stick to the formula too much, too long, and too strictly, or the franchise will not grow and it will die. Sakaguchi bluntly promoted Nomura, regardless if people want to admit it or not, Sakaguchi had Nomura as his golden child in the early 2000s. The reality is, your idea of what makes a Final Fantasy game, is a stark contrast in philosophies with its own actual creators. You act as if the same people who created FFV's gameplay, or the PS1 Era of FF games or FFX's story, are also stupid at the same time. What fans appreciated of FF since its roots, is the story telling, the cinematic experience. 7 made final fantasy cinematic, 4 made final fantasy into a story telling experience. and then when Kingdom Hearts came around, slowly more and more they welcomed the idea of action, Sakaguchi is actually a fan of action games and a lot of the devs like action. Sakaguchi the turn based battle system was allurement to Sakaguchi wanting Final Fantasy to be more action oriented, and that's why he was going to call it Fighting Fantasy, but the name we know was taken, and then this alone is further discussed about Sakaguchi being disappointed with his limited options using the original NES' power. this is the problem with the mentality of "Stay in your lane". this is actually against what Sakaguchi has preached as well as the other devs at Square. I understand of the old adage of if it aint broke, don't fix it. However in this case, I would like to argue that what you may call not broken, the artist in them who made the piece of art wants to make something even more. You cannot make assumptions that an artist is off the rails, when the artists is merely making what they are very very passionate about. This is what is great about passionate art is that it is always subjective, no matter how awful it may seem to you. the developers of final fantasy treat their games like art usually, theyre very passionate about what they do, even if it wont give me them the maximum number of sales. the devs of final fantasy consider themselves artists, and you simply are not actually respecting that. If you want final fantasy to be 30 final fantasies in and be the exact same as FF7-10, then you go make 30 games like those nearly identically minus ever so slightly differences, that's your mission. i understand liking games for what they are in the past nostalgically, I still think Ocarina of Time is the greatest Zelda ever, but thats an opinion and but one philosophy, and if they continue in the same route as BotW, thats ok, it isnt self-destructive and detrimental. and thats the beauty of art, it dies, it survives, and it thrives, and it lives on in different ways reborn differently for the future of the new era and generations to come.

I’m a big fan of X’s world. I bought a PlayStation, my first console as a kid “PC mater race” believer just to play X after seeing my cousins playing it. Having said that the only other FF games I’ve played is 7, 12, 14 and 15. So a big gap in the older (better) games.

I was living in Japan when the Dreamcast was released, so I grabbed one. I was also there when it died, and Sega games everywhere suddenly started selling for pennies on the dollar (or yen). I bought almost a hundred games and played some, but I held on to them as a piece of my childhood/young adult life. Eventually, my wife's cousins came to visit, and they devoured the Dreamcast and its games. I ended up giving them the console as a gift as I figured it was better for someone who enjoyed it than it just sitting on a shelf as a collector item. To this day, some 25 years later, these young boys are now men and still bring up how mind-blowing it was that anyone would give them a Dreamcast AND a hundred games. As well as all the good memories they enjoyed playing that old Japanese Dreamcast as growing up. So I have a fondness for this console and its games (as well as the original Joypolis, which was "Sega World" back in the day). Thanks for sparking that good memory.

Having grown up right wing, and stayed right wing, since the 90s it's been truly interesting to see how society has shifted further and further left. I entered puberty during the time of the first MMOs coming into play. Everquest, FFXI, Runescape(2D), and Eve Online. Playing those and listening to leftie adults of the time lament and berate right wing politicians and Bush non-stop with almost no opposition was pretty normal, at least when political discussion came up. At the time I had the feeling that all gamers outside of my circles were lefties, but in hindsight, it was more that gamers read the room and stay neutral with regards to this cause they usually don't actually care. Just nod and play along and vote left, cause that's what almost all your friends are doing. Please don't think about how your online European friends are influencing you, too. Wouldn't wanna get shunned by your online society, too, would you? Eventually it just becomes the norm for them and they justify the behavior as being their beliefs all along (if they even care to justify them). But back then it hadn't interfered with the games themselves yet, and so there was no reason to shift the other way for most until the left had become a deep seated parasite. Plus, many right wingers had culture growing up that prevented most of us from going into things like game development, localization, translation etc. Bringing us to where we are now, with a buncha raggedy ass narc personas in control of the entertainment we most enjoy far more than they should be, making things lamer and gayer than they really are or should be. Had I known this was where things were headed, I would have taken great efforts to learn Japanese and become a translator and localizer myself.

I just want my video game and I don’t care the effort put into the making of the product. I’m the meditative type player as well. Not really interested in multiplayer. Really enjoy RPG games or games that have strong RPG elements.

As a soulsbourne veteran/enjoyer I loved ER, however, the expansion did not grab me. The formulae has changed. I need to change my build for different bosses which I have never had to do before. So I’m not sure about the expansion. Story is meh (though it’s secondary so doesn’t really bother me). I went back and played DS2 for the third time while I mull it over 😅

Blockchain is a tech I hope wins due to its ability to decentralise and own currency. NFT as an offshoot of the same tech but I can’t see it taking off in our lifetime. Maybe when the AIs takeover and can cooperate to the point that NFTs are used across all games, art etc.

I find it weird that the video game industry is the only industry that expect their customers to care how hard they work. No one cares. I just want my video game and I don’t care the effort put into the making of the product. I’m the meditative type player as well. Not really interested in multiplayer. Really enjoy RPG games or games that have strong RPG elements.
As a soulsbourne veteran/enjoyer I loved ER, however, the expansion did not grab me. The formulae has changed. I need to change my build for different bosses which I have never had to do before. So I’m not sure about the expansion. Story is meh (though it’s secondary so doesn’t really bother me). I went back and played DS2 for the third time while I mull it over 😅
Blockchain is a tech I hope wins due to its ability to decentralise and own currency. NFT as an offshoot of the same tech but I can’t see it taking off in our lifetime. Maybe when the AIs takeover and can cooperate to the point that NFTs are used across all games, art etc.
