Storm Kings Thunder Review

Ойындар

Recording this video was way more difficult than it should have been. During my first attempt the camera shut off on it's own 3/4 of the way through, then the first part before the shut off wouldn't play and had to be deleted. Then to cap it off on my second attempt the battery died. So I cobbled the review together using the first part of my second attempt, and the last part of my first attempt. Hopefully it still turns out alright

Thank you for making a no nonsense straight to the point review about this book. I was more hard pressed than you'd imagine to find a review in this style. Thanks again!

Nice review. As a player who went through STK I found it overall very enjoyable. However I found it difficult to follow the plot of the story and was confused at times on why we went on certain quests and which NPCs were important and which were not. Sometimes these long quest campaigns can be confusing as there are many facts & characters to keep track of and it’s not always easy to figure what’s relevant to the overall quest goal. Sometimes sandbox campaigns can be that way.

I bought this book for the Faerun info mostly. We started with the area featured in the Essentials kit, and then I picked up Princes of the Apocalypse because it features the area directly east of that. Now, this book fleshes out a lot more of the area. I think I am a fan of mixing gazetteer and adventure information together. Its costing me more money, but is less dry to read. Thanks for the review.

Actually there is a very good reason why the cult of the dragon had an air ship that is identical to the one used by acquisition Inc. That was actually revealed on an episode of dice camera action, which you may not have seen as you've mentioned you don't like rust does as much. If you notice the red dragon behind this cult is actually the same dragon that acquisition Inc met up with once and avoid have to deal with by tossing large sums of treasure of their airship. The dragon was so impressed by that (the treasure gifting airship) that he commissioned an identical airship be made for him.

That's pretty cool. I've tried to watch Dice Camera Action, but the Paladin annoyed me way too much. I was honestly hoping that each season would involve new characters, since I think the players are decent (I am a fan of Projared) but I didn't really like some of the characters. I might have to give it another attempt, Strix really grew on me after seeing her in Acquisitions Incorporated

DravenSwiftbow to be honest I whole sale skipped the entire first season of it. For reasons unknown to me I was somewhat put off by the cos module, so I just skipped to storms king thunder. I will say that my feelings have abated some because I think I want to like but something about it just raised my heckles. It may be the suggestion I saw somewhere that it be a primarily human setting. In any case, even though you life cos, you should try doing what I did and jump to season 2. I'm not saying it will in fact be better, you still may not like it, however by jumping to season 2 you'll allow the players to really grow into their characters by this point they are now in season 3 in chult doing the tomb of annihilation (and I believe they are essentially starting it at near or at the highest level range for the adventure. That is too say I've seen strix cast cone of cold so they are at least level 9) so perhaps whatever you disliked about Evelyn's character or the way that she was portrayed may have been smoothed over. Or perhaps just seeing it with fresh eyes may be enough to change your opinion But if not it's okay regardless. There is still AI or perhaps even the C team. I have found watching others play DND can be very eye opening especially from a DMs perspective as you can see the way different DMs approach things. I personally love dark elves and the underdark so naturally I would have gravitated towards out of the abyss. I have seen some around 10 different play throughs and despite having seen the velkinvelve section of the module (which is the least the minimum length I've seen of all the shows they are almost all weirdly different with some very odd commonalities. Such as the fact that all but 1 play through that I've seen have all gone to the kuatoa village first. Or perhaps not. watching DND may not be for everyone. But in any case thanks for replying and for having forum this far off this crazy long comment.

I'm about to run this for my group. I took them through the Lost Mines of Phandelver first. Felt like a perfect match. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.

I'm starting up a new game with a new group and am actually doing the same thing. I started running Lost MInes of Phandelver and plan to move on to Storm Kings Thunder. I agree that they do go very well together, one of the better fits to follow after the Starter Set

They ignored an earlier hook with an Orc threat. Considering the history of the region I decided to play that up. Made a custom harder encounter. So now they are headed to Triboar to make an alliance with the leader there to deal with the Orcs. Ostensibly anyway.

Hey Lallander! I'm wanting to run this combination and I was wondering how long (weeks, months, a year) running these two campaigns took. I want to run it with my friends at college and am hoping we can finish out before the school year ends.

This is a really great review. I'm a new DM running running 5th edition for new players. So far I have only run lost mines of phandelver for them and I've really been struggling to decide on the next campaign to run for them and this video has helped a lot. For me, it's really down to this or princes of the apocalypse, but this campaign seems much better structured for an inexperienced DM. My question for you is this: Does the fact that so much of the content is 'optional' make this a shorter campaign than the others? We only get to play for 3 hours a week, so a campaign that is slightly shorter really appeals to me. Thanks again for the helpful review.

It does make for a shorter potential game, the main story runs from levels 5-10. The players may decide to go after some of the other Giant Chieftains, but they don't need to. It is a great follow up to Lost Mines if you wanted to use the same characters.
