It's worth noting that according to the book, Triboar is great if you ran Lost Mines of Phandelver instead of chapter one because it's just up the road and it offers some plot hooks to get players there. This is what I wound up doing, it may even be a better level 1-5 adventure than chapter one itself. It gave my players opportunities to even join the factions to make things a bit spicier.

I think it would be hard to find someone who thinks chapter 1 of storm king’s thunder is a better adventure than lost mines, but I do think I rework chapter 1 into something worth running in my previous video!

I played SKT as a player but would like to DM it one day. It’s a large and epic campaign. Fighting giants is never easy. It’s a good follow-up to LMoP but not necessary either. I would limit the number of sidequests to give PCs more guidance as sometimes a sandbox campaign can feel lost for players. When you have a long multi-session campaign the goals sometimes get lost or confusing

Cheers for the video! I managed to distract them all in Waterdeep for the session today so got time to go thru this properly and compare to the book and prepair before the next session.

@@ConeofCool that's awesome I used a lot of what you talked about. We are now in chapter 3 but I am going to have them do all town attacks.

@@Thatdudeorama I considered this but I had the attacks occur without the players there. So when they arrived in town some of the special NPCs were dead already and only the NPCs with quests that I thought were still relevant were around. This helps with worldbuilding and shows that things occur with or without the players being present. That being said running each town with the players ensures you are getting the most out of the module! Good luck!

@@ConeofCool Oh yeah that is a better idea! I was going to have them start at goldenfields and follow the main story with them going to meet Old Gnawbone. Then having them go north from the information from Calugiyliamatar gave them and move Harshnag close to Bryn Shander so they could help/see the damage and then have then Harshnag lead them to the eye of the all father. I mean that is the idea but who knows what the players will do.

@@Thatdudeorama it is always good to have a plan! If you wanted you could simply move the mountain pass in the Valley of Khedrun to the Icewind Dale, so the players are basically required to pass through Bryn Shander prior to traveling to the eye of the all father?

  • @indycole396

I’m thinking of running this after my Icewind dale campaign and level all the giants super high, as could be easily done with giants, by having all the giants attack at once, plus after spending a rather high level campaign over all, they should be especially attached to the region.

Hello, do you have any advice for Chapter 3, it is overwhelming on where the party should go. I am running HotDQ concurrently with STK as the module suggests in the rear appendix but struggling organizing it in a way so it can flow smoothly without the party getting off track, any suggestions?
