100% and i hate it bc i get it lol. If it gets into your family's lore that you're somehow x type of person with x defining feature and now it's an inside joke you genuinely feel like you have to reveal that you've changed as a person. It's like telling your relatives to stop sending you legos for Christmas bc you're not into them anymore but like worse bc it's your parents and now it's like your identity. @@rachelrachel9152 fr. ppl don't realize how hard it is to tell your relatives, in my case my parents, I don't like something anymore, or never liked it but tolerated. parents think they know their kids. they don't. it's such a hard and awkward thing to do. but I've grown to stop caring about their feelings. they still take time to actually adjust but it always best to tell them outright for the long term.

I believe this Yahoo really is about shorts, and here's why: I went through the same thing as a kid. Yes, really. I stopped wearing shorts sometime in elementary school because I was self-conscious about having super hairy legs at a young age, and by the time I wanted to wear them again I felt like asking to buy them would be weird. I had been "no shorts kid" for so long that I felt like maybe my parents would make fun of me for wanting a pair? In retrospect it was bizarre but I do, in fact, understand this post.

Honestly kids get riled up about the weirdest things and make weird assumptions about their parents all the time, especially neurodivergent kids, so this could in fact be about shorts and he just has Thee Weirdest Mum Ever, but the idea that someone can describe themselves as subconsciously jealous of other boys who wear shorts and dances around the issue like this does lend credence to the idea that this is not about shorts. And if he's calling his mom "mum" then it's very likely he's from TERF Island or a subsidiary, and I could fully understand being terrified to come out there, especially as a preteen.

I have to agree with the assessment that this is a literal yahoo. Because trans people wearing baggy clothes is a very accurate stereotype. We want to disguise what we can. I have had, basically, the opposite experience, my mom made me shave my legs as a kid/teen because her her parents didn’t let her shave her legs at those ages, so she tried to spare me the same embarrassment. But, I felt uncomfortable about having bare legs (because 💞boy💞) but my mom wanted me to wear shorts.

People are talking about this bit like it's an allegory for coming out as gay or trans but it's like... What is gym class an allegory for? What is the bin full of discarded shorts? What did his mum mean when she said "we're not a shorts family"? I hate to be the "sometimes a pen is just a pen" guy, but this person is 100% talking about the little pants without the sleeves on them.
