"Musang" originally was a fixed-blade hunting knife project that will feature a palm civet cat sculpted on the hilt, the initial design and sketches I had on paper were good, but I still think that it lacks the character that will make it special, so I decided to re-design it to give it a unique character that will make it stand out.
The outcome was a 27 cm overall length butterfly knife version of the original concept and the birth of a knife belonging to a class of its own. The "Musang" Bali knife retains the original profile and silhouette of the original hunting knife design but with a handle construction of what a balisong has.
The 12cm blade was forged from leaf spring steel which features a sculpted palm civet cat or "Musang" on the blade, The handle construction is of skeleton-type housing made of brass and aluminum plate with stainless steel bolsters, and the pivot pins are made of steel flat-head screws and the latch is of stainless and brass. The burl wood scales are rivetted by brass rods and tubes.
the "Musang" or civet cat became the inspiration for this unique piece for symbolic reasons, In many cultures the civet cat as a spirit animal teaches us to be independent and self-reliant, it is also a symbol of our strong connection to the natural world. A civet cat as a totem can help you overcome your fears and take on new challenges.
