"Kublan"
is a Cebuano term that means invulnerable, impenetrable, and immune.
This chopper was built initially as a personal project to serve as a memento of the stories, and trials that my family went through brought by the pandemic, and the challenges that we conquered to be able to restore our spirit and rebuild everything from the ground up.
This piece was built using a leaf spring for the blade, and the handle scales are from a century-old amboyna burl, after polishing and dressing it with linseed oil, the piece of wood that I randomly picked from my stash revealed beautiful stripes added with a chatoyant effect on it which resembles the majestic tiger's stripes, which is also very timely as this piece after 15 long months was finally completed in the year of the water tiger.
The meaning of the name "Kublan" and the tiger as a symbol of courage, strength of will, the ability to overcome obstacles, and strong emotions fits perfectly with what this piece is all about.
Although this blade was built initially to be a personal project,
It will be an honor to hand him over to a gentleman and a true warrior, who also had been in life-changing experiences and challenges brought by the pandemic but courageously managed
to conquer it with a heart of a tiger and a soul impenetrable by defeat.
