"Samaya"
the name it carries is a Nepalese word that means "time".
"Time, once lost is lost forever.",
this 29 cm balisong with a kukri or khukuri-inspired blade is a custom build that aims to remind Samaya's keeper how valuable time is.
The kukri or khukuri, known in Nepal as both a utility blade and a melee weapon, is oftentimes associated with the Gurkha warriors, which makes it a perfect symbol of utility and courage.
Time, if utilized or spent correctly with courage, can be a key ingredient to happiness, love, fortune, health, and victory, on the other hand, if wasted can bring anything and everything to a regretful end and misery.
The kukri or khukuri-inspired blade is a 5160 high carbon steel, with 4mm thickness at the spine, convex ground edge, a wide fuller, and the edge is polished to mirror finish. The blade's most prominent feature is the irregular and random void patterns near the tang designed to mimic a degenerating state, symbolically representing the passage of time.
The handle construction is a brass sheet open housing with textured finish brass bolster and solid arc brass screws for pivot pins. The handles scales are of beautiful burl wood, rivetted in place by brass tubing.
Another noticeable design feature of this piece is the intricate brass adornments not only to protect the end part of the handle but also to serve as a finger shield preventing accidental cuts from the sharp edge of the blade.
