I had to step back from 3rd party for a bit but still sticking with Takara. I would want to point out that changing the name to Robot Paradise was not to stay in Takara's good graces, no 3rd party company is in their good graces, it was to make themselves harder to sue. Just because Takara can't stop them doesn't mean they aren't trying to.

Idk, I'll bet Has/Tak enjoys watching 3Ps get KOed. I'm down with all of it. To me 3P and KO are the same thing. I'd imagine Takara sees it similarly. They nourished the brand for 4 decades it's indisputable that they own it... Honestly I don't think they really sweat 3P at all, even though most of them make better toys imo. They make the occasional stink when absolutely necessary like with Zeta Unicron. Still when FT threatened retailers for selling their KOs they lost my business forever. Theives you don't get to cry foul when it happens to them. Disgusting level of hypocrisy.

Great video as usual. I’ve been on the 3rd party journey since around the time Fans Toys put out Koot. The 86 movie had such a huge impact on me as a kid, seeing a transformer that perfectly matched to the cartoon in both modes (and considering it was my first MP at all, not being put off by the infamous transformation) I was hooked. Since then I’ve sampled figures from almost every company and era of third party MP’s. I love to evangelize a bit about unsung figures. DX9’s Carry is truly one of my favorites, and the Open Play Big Spring Springer wasn’t polished enough to win the great Springer Wars but slap an inferno face on him and he’s really fun to hold, transform and pose. H’e my favorite version of Springer, period. MP or chug.

This was a very entertaining video to watch. Where I stand on G1 is, I dont necessarily want it to look the way it looked in the cartoon ( since sometimes the animators were all over the place) BUT I want it to look like the way I remembered it in the cartoon. When I got Toy World Devy, I said YUP thats what I want my devastator to look like ( after they added the gap fillers on the waist). For an example of what I mean, early Snake Eyes was Blue in a lot of the GI Joe episodes, but w all remember him being black. Thats what I mean when I say, not how he was, but how I remembered him being.

That is exactly why options are good and Hoist is another example of matching the animation exactly does not equal a good looking figure

Sometimes confusing but Apeface and Snapdragon are called HORRORcons. Similar to the combiner team Terrorcons. You also have Autobot MONSTERBOTS. The dragon.. ant.. and another grey thing.

I never bought any Fans Hobby figures until this year. Like you, they issue figures outside the era of my interest. But they look like great figures, so I went in on their Doubledealer and Boss at TFCon. Boss is finnicky but looks good. Doubledealer is a great figure, though. I just got their Dreadwind, it's as good as Doubledealer. Lots of articulation, lots of hardware. If you want to try one of their figures, start with Doubledealer. It is very solid.

Toy World would be SMART to take another look at aka Upgrade and fix any issues, their Constructicons and Re Release them in several colors. Same with Zeta's Aerialbots. MakeToys Alternate Jazz version would be good to Reissue as well. Be nice to see another round of the KO MP52s. I don't personally like them, Deformation Space is Superior, but would like them for the Alt mode. FTs SixShot would be an Excellent rerelease.

I sort of got back into MP collecting. Bought many of the autobot ark crew during the black friday sales, for less money than their legends counterparts. 😁 Focussed mostly on Takara ko's but I also went for the transform & rollout Jazz and transform element mirage. Still waiting for those 2 to arrive.

Transistor is still the best Blaster if you don't do toon accuracy. I have TW Kupp. I love him. How the FT version has that backpack when Kupp turns into half a car boggles my mind. TW Kupp evokes the G1 toy which is my favorite type of MP. I'm that guy who would buy an MP Iron hide based on the G1 toy design though lol.

Awesome vid Mike, yes I too believe Cyclonus is FTs best Overall Figure followed by their Wild Rider.

I personally prefer Galvatron, but objectively have to agree Cyclonus transformation and alt mode put him beyond Galvy. I think a case could be made for their Motor Master though. A toy that actually Mass shifts is pretty damn impressive imo.

DX9 Gabriel is amazing and i have that and all of the GIGA DINOS..amazing as well

Thanks for this. I recently discovered the world of 3rd party transformers. I had tons of G1 toys as a kid but I never had any combiners and I always wanted those. I'm looking into buying some MP combiners but it seems like the manufacturers just make one run of their version and that's it.

DX9 has a reissues Menasor up for preorder and Zeta has been known to reissue their bruticus and Superion a few times. XTB makes theirs in different colors and toy looks also to provide more opportunities

I wish takara wasn’t so high, but I always wait for the KO, so it works out…. I think the first third party toy I bought was TFC shattered glass Devastator.

I don't mind, because most of their figures don't really appeal to me. Takara has become a 2nd rate player in the MP game. Not that they're terrible, they just aren't great either. I loved a lot of their older figures and still have them. I'll still buy an occasional KO if it's a character I don't care much about. Like say Tracks, he barely warrants KO price even if another company absolutely nailed him I wouldn't pay more for Tracks lol.

I really liked the Toon accuracy that Transform Element and their offshoots made. There’s a market for that level of accuracy. Hopefully they keep making figures. Great figures

FYI - spray a clear coat (semi or glossy) over DS-02 Blaster to remedy the chalky paint/feel/look.

Pretty sure GigaPower is going the DX-9 route, the 2 dinobots that they have available for pre-order have both been delayed every month of 2023 and they have yet to finish the weathered version of their dinobots (only 2 out of 5 are available after 3+ years.) I would NOT recommend trying to get all have in any versions right now

I think some company should come with the whole G1 collection all of them all at once and have it for everyone for a few years like someone should just make it impossible for anyone else to compete and make it easy for everyone to collect it or just do a historical wave set like some out with stuff like hasbro did in the 80s and do that for three years instead of making stuff and that be it no more I had all of G1 back in 84-87 I had them all except omega and jet fire those was the only two I missed I even talked to hasbro and had most of the joes and they would talk to me for hours sometimes me and my dad they even sent me the last run of the holy grail shipwreck they sent them to my dad for me back in 93 when they stopped making Joe’s as I helped them come up with the assault platform that was my idea for ship wreck to have his own playset for him and his bird !! Real dead I told them that shipwreck would be the most valuable and they made sure of it I think it to bad they got stolen after my dad died and my mom lost the house and her boyfriend sold them off for who knows how much

The only KOs of the repaints are MP-12+ Lambor and MP-14+ Alert. After that, for some reason, the Chinese KO companies stopped.

I still dont have a Skywarp represented in my collection. Im really hoping for a masterpiece Tetra Jet cybertronian version. It would need as many plastic pringles as Unicron, but I believe it can be done without parts forming.

Still got mine too. I love the aesthetic and transformation. I've got the oversized GT as my MP Devy. It's a nice figure, but I honestly like the tfc one more. There is just something about the feel of him. It's hard to explain the way he sort of sways when you set him down but doesn't crumble lol. Like he has his own ideas about how to pose. Idt TFC ever did anything as good as their Hercules.

Their Predaking still holds up as the absolute apex Combiner of its scale and Era. Today it's an excellent CHUG option to go with the new mainline. I'm admittedly biased I don't collect a lot of MMC stuff anymore since I've pretty much finished. Still I view them the way most collectors view Fantoys. Meaning I think MMC is hands down the best transformers company in existence.

Fanstoys prices are higher than Takaras when comparing the same figure.

It was not always that way prior to 2020. In 2018 I got Hydra for $130 and he is a big fig. Takara put out Skyfire for $260 which is their biggest MP and that was a surprise. Times are a changin

I have to disagree on the BadCube Insecticons being the poorest set. Just my Opinion but I see them as the #2 option behind the FansToys but still better than the MMC set. MMC makes great stuff but not their Insecticons. They're junky and the BadCubes are nicer overall.

Badcube are still great figures I guess that they are the shortest versions that left a less than impressive impression on me. I do have to say their Deluxe version is a superior set with vacmetal parts and clear chest options

In some ways the BC insectoes are better than FTs. BC had some really good engineering and was way ahead of its time.

I got them on the same shelf as the GigaPower Dinobots that definitely have more of a G1 toy look over toon and they look pretty good next to them. I'd still like a FT set but if I bought them they'd get the included clear yellow chest plates installed over the solid yellow. Nice that FT gives you that option. Pretty sure we can agree that the FT set is still the best. Even MMC knows their Insecticons are substandard. They planned them for the Ocular Max line but moved them to the cheaper Reformated line for a reason. They know they didn't give their best with their Insecticons offering. If MMC wants to take a stab at some Deluxe Insecticons I'd be down for those possibly. I wish somebody would make the Deluxe Insecticons in MP scale. MMC makes Roadbuster and Whirl but they're Meh. Too small for starters. Roadbuster looks the part but the shoulder pads and backpack kibble keeps his arms from being very poseable. Whirl is very poseable but barely looks the part. His alt mode is something out of Avatar instead of the Huey Cobra he should be modelled after. Nobody seems inclined to make any of the Bandai Transformers from 85 save Jetfire/Skyfire. Roadbuster and Whirl are highly stylized and not very G1 looking. Deluxe Insecticons don't really exist. Liketoys makes 3 of the 4 but they're mainline deluxe sized and a good inch shorter than the BadCube or FT Insecticons. Deluxe need to be at least the same size but preferably about an inch taller than the 3 originals in Proper MP scale. Just dreaming but I'd like to see GigaPower take on something new and make Deluxe Autobots and Insecticons. They'd be properly large I'm certain. 😂 A more plausible idea would be for a smaller company like Jinbao to make oversized versions of Roadbuster and Whirl based off the older Thrilling 30 versions with some small upgrades and a good 3 inches taller than the original Voyager sized bots from Hasbro.

Gotta ask have you actually handled the MMC set? I sold off my FTs insecticons when I got the MMC ones on deep discount years ago. I absolutely love them. They evoke the toys more to me than FT or BC do. I prefer them aesthetically to Badcube. I've never handled the BC ones so I won't presume to compare build quality, but I can tell you I've never found the MMC ones to be cheap, fragile, or junky.

MMC magna and inventa (skylynx) is more accurate to legends than it is to MP scale.

Not sure how long it will take but I already missed out on groove so I hope they do reissues of the toy version. lf they reissue toy versions that also shows they are still focused on the project. Menasor took over 2 years but the trailer was the main hold up
