I think its still enjoyable. The only problem is that there are too many "players" who are trying to sell you there most cartoon /film accurate figure, and we buy them only to find out months later that another company did a better job making a MORE accurate figure. So youre always buying the same character just a more accurate figure, it's like a drug addiction. And the need for something “harder” is getting a more accurate figure.

I try to be patient and if FT COMES Out WITH SOMETHING I don’t like completely then I wait for xtransbots, and vice versus. Also, if I don’t like the masterpiece I may like the legend scale and buy that. I only have two masterpieces of the same character, and that is trailbreaker. They really do take up a lot of space. I’m constantly throughout the year adding wall shelves to make room for it. Eventually, in a few more years, after they’ve done most of my childhood favorites, I’ll stop buying. New characters aren’t that interesting t9 me, honestly.

It goes in phases, you want the best representation of each character and you don’t want to pay too much or more than you feel a figure is worth, but you are bound to learn by mistake or regret buys. There is a sense of satisfaction for those of us close to finishing our collections, but dread as better replacements come out and we jump on the pre order and then try to decide if it’s really justifiably better. Most of the time I want to go with fans toys, but I would prefer with characters I don’t care for as much like the headmaster that make toys finish them at a lower price. I still have my preorder in for ft berserk at bbts for $144.99, we’ll see if they honor it or bump up the price like they did with xtb Springer.

Space and merely replacing figures with a newer version are the 2 issues sucking the fun out of MP collecting. We are nearing the end of Seasons 1 & 2 bots so that will be nice but it still leaves the issue of completing combiners that Fanstoys may not do before we all die lol.

FansToys not completing Menasor and Superion has to be the biggest insult to their fans. I got their MotorMaster and Silverbolt to have as my bot versions but I went with X-Transbots, Zeta, and DX9 for combined, rest of the bots, and vehicle modes. I have a feeling they don't really know how to combine them. I mean wouldn't there already be combined modes for the ones that have been released? I think they are going to have to rely on shells like Zeta. I can't even imagine how even the trailer for MotorMaster, which is incorporated into the bot mode, would work to form Menasor.

Nearing the end of my collection. Sure there are ones missing I won't be able to buy, like fanstoys blur unless they reissue him. Paying £100-150 is a tad hard to justify sometimes. Ultra Magnus is great, looks like the cartoon but I wasn't overwhelmed. Springer xtb was a good looking bot but the backpack is awful I just received fanstoys sea spray from showz. Mostly bought him for bot mode, since I already had xtb seaspray for alt mode The ft version is great but just feels a bit souless? There are a few bumblebee movie figures up for preorder and I'm like do I have the energy to buy them? It's all a bit weird right now for me.

I only collect MP transformers and I can agree, the transformations recently have been more frustrating. But the main reason for the sluggishness is the “too much of the same thing” you we’re talking about. I like upgrades to my figures , but I like new characters even more. Xtb looks like it’s going that route soon. Also release dates suck in the MP world. Ex. At this rate, my MMC Defensor will be done by 2025. And the release dates are always months late.

I have a really hard time with the replacement part of the hobby. If it is a $20 mainline figure, then no worries. I can sell the old one and if there is a loss, then it is 5 bucks or so, but with MP, a figure can go from 200 to 80 or less overnight. It is tough to keep validating, especially when it hasn't been more than a couple of years. It is so bad that I have stopped pre-ordering entirely and will often wait years and years to fill a space because I know a superior version will come out. Blitzwing is a prime example. 7 years I have waited but to me it is easier then spending money on placeholders.

Running out of space is definitely making it more stressful than fun, but that's mostly due to my home which I've outgrown for awhile now and collecting MP certainly doesn't help! That LT Metroplex would be super awesome, but I can't justify that one with the lack of space and probably the cost to boot. The releasing of characters that already have been made is frustrating as well. I am willing to get some of those since they are cool, but I don't want to get duplicates prior to figures that haven't been made yet.

I don't transform mines, however the issue I'm having is budget, also I'm between heroic and cartoon accurate look so searching for the right bot became part of the collecting genre, don't get me wrong, I'm still having fun just by checking websites and seeing comparison reviews, but my major issue is the high price , plus receiving imports in my country have an extra cost, and buying local is waaay more expensive 😢, I will accept an donations on MP figures 😅 so what I do is a mix between original, third-party and KO,s for example, KO acustic wave and DS blaster, and so on, so that gap gives me fun ! I don't transform MPs if I don't need to, especially if they are already in bot mode. If I want an alt mode, I get another and transform it or just use an older figure. Collecting MPs is still fun but lack of space is my main issue right now. I also collect mainline, Classified GI Joe, and Macross toys and those take up a lot of room. I think cost is the most frustrating part though. Because of FOMO, I've preordered figures thinking they might sell out only to have them not only be plentiful but also get steep price cuts not long after release. BBTS and TFSource have been having some good sales lately and had I waited on some of these like the MP Skyfire, I could have saved myself quite a bit.

I just got into a position to pick back up on my MP collection. I got away from it because I didn't witness the value of it plus I was into getting more of the toys from when I was a kid. Vintage G1, Star Wars & Voltron mostly with a few of the early to mid 90s Star Wars. I started collecting the mainline Beast Wars when I saw my son was into them then I got hooked on the show when it began referencing my childhood. After years of watching reviews, then seeing the prices of mainline figures get up to near 3p MP prices, I started back. I noticed, if you get in on a pre-order, you can just about get it for $30-50 more than the mainline AND it's a better rendition of the character. Couple that with instant equity in the figure when it hits release & it holds value better... even if opened, MP was a no brainer for me. My collection is now mainly MP scale Beast Wars & MP G1 (pre 86 movie) Decepticons. All this is just my opinion after being out of the game for so long. But that's what makes it so fun. I'm seeing things released now that I would've NEVER dreamed possible back during the MP-01 & MP-05... both which I still have. Lol

I like the puzzle element of Transformers in trying to transform without instructions. And that's fine for mainline but I can't risk an a MP without following an instructional video because there's too many fragile little pieces and panel that don't give you a second chance without breaking. So actually transformation for me has gone from the essential appeal to a frustrating chore to be avoided. But I'm too close to completing the characters I want now. So I continue.

FansToys "Jabber"...an incredible robot mode, but DAMN, that vehicle mode is fugly!! I'm amazed that nobody's tried their hand at a Blurr since then. Blaster...I will be all good if I can get my mitts on the KFC/XTB one. Sure, it ain't show accurate, but it was otherwise fantabulously AWESOME. I don't think that they did all the Tape Minions, though...only Rewind, Eject, and Rosanna (who comes with Twincast, ugh!!). You're spot on about the transformation trouble, though!! I'd say that early stuff like the MP3 & MP11 Seeker molds, MP9 Rodimus Prime, and such were Unicron sized *RED FLAGS* about the complexity to come. Then along came MP36 Megatron and beyond...

The complex transformations can definitely put a damper on the fun of transforming a figure, thought it can also be viewed as a puzzle for puzzle fans, like Rubix Cube almost. ;) Good point about fewer replica figures of the same character for Transformers compared to Star Wars with all of the Mandalorian/Grogu combinations being offered recently as an example. Thanks Tydirium Hanger.

It's not fun for me to spend high money on something that doesn't look premium but is justified by tracing something that's been drawn cheaply to beat a deadline. But I guess I'm in the minority as companies wouldn't move in the current direction if that was the case.

Well I don't know if I'm going to articulate this well enough, but one thing for me that sucks the air out of the room when it comes to masterpiece collecting is the fan base itself and how some people within the fandom behave. I'm assuming that the majority of masterpiece collectors are male, sure there's some girls out there, but I got a feeling that most Transformers masterpiece collectors are predominantly male, half the time their behavior is very juvenile or feminate in behavior. That to me takes some of the fun out of it because of their stupidity and lack of class. Not that I let somebody's bad attitude get to me, but does get annoying. And I'm from the school that just because something is newer doesn't mean that's necessarily better. I think that some older releases are better done than some of the newer ones. Depending on the figure. Just an example I'm not into the hyper toon look. If that's something that you're into I see nothing wrong with that option being there, but I still kind of like the more classic masterpiece figures that initially first came out where they had more of a real world feel to them then something that looks like it came from the animation. I still come from the angle that I think that the cartoon show is what led to the downfall the original G1 line. Starting maybe halfway through the second series, leaning into the movie, then into the third and fourth seasons is what killed the franchise. If they stuck more with the original comic book story arc, which is where the cartoon was originally based off of, I got a feeling the reception and interest in the toy line would have lasted longer. I think there should be a mixture of both toon accurate figures and more realistic looking masterpiece figures just so that they're in the selection for each type of collector out there so that there is a market for everyone. When they start to specialize with one thing that's never a good thing. And I also think that the make toys (pronounced ma key) headmasters are still actually pretty good figures. I think that their hardhead was there best release yet, but overall I don't think that there needs to be a redo the figure per se because some of the older stuff I don't think is that bad. Maybe some retooling and revamping some design elements, but other than that it's a decent figure as is. Getting toon accurate I don't think it's a good thing because no offense to anybody who's into that, I think when it's strictly just that way, it kind of cheapens the overall appeal of the figure. Using drive and Phantasm as examples, I think the molding on both figures are absolutely great, but I don't necessarily like the coloration or paint apps that were used. Let's be honest, sometimes the quality of animation that was in the old G1 cartoon wasn't the greatest. There were times when they got really cheap in production, and it showed. I wouldn't want that the translate over to my personal collection I've got a personal connection towards jazz because he was one of my first Transformers I have ever owned, so I'm a little picky though what I like and I don't like and him. But like I said I like the sculpting that they put into the fans toys version, but I think they could have done better with the painting. Don't care too much for the blue headlights, and the blue tinted windows. I would have liked it better if they were like the Nissan Brothers in terms of how they did the coloration on those figures. Even though they've done animation accurate coloration for those figures, the more realistic versions of the figures or more in demand than the animated repaints is my point. I'm thinking I'm getting a second Phantasm and repeating some of the non-chrome parts Chrome and adding the sticker sheet that they already have over at toy hacks to make it a little more to my liking. Sometimes in this hobby you get a lot of the same character, but I'm starting to feel that there isn't a lot of selection in terms of what kind of style or aesthetic that you want from the character. And that can cause a problem. Like I said, I got a feeling that the toon look it's popular, but I don't think it's a smart move to have that strictly as the only option to choose from when you want a figure in your collection. Does she be more variance of the same type of mold or figure available if you want to go one way or another. But that's me..

Yes, Transformations are Horrible. I don't transform anything unless it comes in Altmode or have too combine them. Whats exciting to me is that Transformers has all these 3rd party companies and ko companies just all trying to give the customers what they want.. Is not like in some industry where certain manufacturers have secure rights or licenses for the IP and only they can make them.. that sometimes leads to boring uninspiring designs!! Like in the case of Marvel Legends or Mattels DC justice league. always great video Mike.
