that looks really good, in mexico we would eat those, but the clams are red, and when you put lime and salt, (the clam would be chopped into pieces) and all the little pieces would randomly become alive n squirm, its really coooool.

Because clams do not feel pain. They do not have a central nervous system. They are basically one step up from plants.

I find it very hard to tell which part of a clam is which basically keeps it alive. Do clams have a brain? Is there a way to instantly kill them? Are they even capable of feeling pain?

doesnt matter if its dead or not, so long as its fresh and properly prepared its fine, if it isnt dead, it will be soon from being sliced into ribbons, some sushi/sashimi is made fresh form live animals, but typically here in the USA resterants import the raw fish and keep it fresh in fridges or freezers until they need to prepare it, so in most cases in the USA yes its dead, but be wary of Fugu sashimi, it can be lethal if not prepared properly, its a venomous fish and expensive as hell

but Fugu youll likely only find in Japan, its a delicacy and served as Sashimi but if its not prepared properly it could kill you due to the fish's venom in its skin/liver/organs, but your very unlikely to find that dish in resterants outside Japan, not only would it be crazy expensive to import, you also have to be specially trained and licensed to prepare and serve it as food, plus disposal of the venomous parts requires special containers which most non-JP resterants arent equipped to handle

A clam has no immediately distinguishable features or vocal chords so people can easily ignore the fact that the clam is ALIVE while he is slicing it up. Do the same thing to a fish and watch everyone lose their shit.
