Food Delivery Driver ATTACKED Mid Delivery!!!!! Defends Himself

Ойын-сауық

I want to share this video and experience, to help educate everyone of the potential risk and dangers when doing delivery work. In HOPES that this will save others from making the same mistake, that could lead to a much worse outcome.
With road rage being so common and people being unpredictable, we need to do a better job of avoiding potential confrontations by taking the high road. In this video, I share an incident that happened simply because a driver was told to "get off" their cell phone while driving down the road. The driver then pulled into an adjacent parking lot, to wait for the delivery driver that yelled at him to get off his phone, to initiate an altercation. Unaware of the potential danger waiting outside, the GrubHub/DoorDash delivery driver was caught by surprise when this angered man was waiting for him to come out. Doing Gig Work as an Independent Contractor comes with lots of risk and potential dangers. Whether you deliver for DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmate, Uber Eats, Caviar, Skip the Dishes, or simply driving along in general there's a lot of crazy people out on the road. They feel invincible inside their vehicles, but some will be crazy enough to do much more. Don't let your temper get the best of you, as many people lose their lives everyday due to road rage incidents that could have been avoided altogether, just like this one could have been. Learn from other's mistakes, be safe, and work smarter!!

I had a guy in a t-shirt, boxers, and socks approach my car because I pulled into his driveway by mistake. This is Florida, so I suspect he wanted to be the next Zimmerman. He kept asking me "can I help you". I just beeped and waved at him like I'm leaving a friend's house, and noped out of there. The freaks really do come out at night and this guy wasn't just an honorary member. Be safe out there, people.

I've had several encounters with rude Doordash and Grubhub drivers that threaten and belittle restaurant employees where I have been *this close* to being snarky and mouthing off to them. By opening my mouth I could have easily brought on a confrontation like this. Lesson learned, just keep to yourself and keep your mouth shut. I am so glad you are okay!

It’s tough sometimes to keep quiet, especially with something like driving and texting that causes so many serious accidents. Either way, not my place to say anything. Lots of people in Az carry firearms and will shoot. I should know better.

Situational awareness is key, tips I follow to stay safe are: don’t deliver at night/after sunset or if I do it’s in safer/wealthy neighborhoods, always have a means of defense on your person and in your car, don’t leave your car running unless you have clear line of sight and do not break visual (never while I’m on public property, only in customer driveways), and do not leave my phone in my car ever even if you’re just running the food to the door bc you lose that and you’re in real trouble.

Good job in not losing it. People don't know each other's past or training. My grandfather was an ex pro boxer who is in boxrec currently. I know my hands could be deadly weapons and as you said if you punch someone and they lay out on the concrete they could instantly be critically hurt or worse. We def. Have to be intelligent working these apps and ignore ignorance. Just about a month ago a group of young guys just walked in front of my car for no reason. I told them there wasn't a stop sign you need to watch where you are going. The one younger guy says come on and get out the car. Lol. I just laughed and kept going. My younger self might have knocked him out cold. But there is my family jail my career to consider. Not worth it!

Welllll said!! I’ve been in enough trouble to last a lifetime and they like to hold your past against you when something does go wrong. Since I initiated the confrontation by telling him to get off his cellphone, they could’ve also used that against me had I hurt this guy like I could’ve. At that point, I have nothing to prove and just wanted to avoid ending up in jail. I also had my dog in the car who I care about more than most humans. That actually kept me from doing anything more stupid than I already had. I’ll save it for situations that truly require me letting my hands, legs, elbows, and knees(personal favorite) go. This clown most certainly wasn’t worth the trouble it would’ve caused me in return. Thanks for the comment!

Bouncer got manslaughter charges here for it and pled down. I won’t be so lucky, and worked as a bouncer for years on weekends for extra money, dealing with d bags that wanted to fight every weekend. I was just honked at and flipped off by a middle age woman in a minivan, because she felt her turn 30 yds back, simultaneous to my right turn, was entitled to the right of way. Thing is, we made the turns at the exact same time, and she wasn't cut off or inconvenienced since we both pulled up to a red light right after. It wasn’t that simple and I know this, which is why I kept my cool. As you can see, this clown couldn’t even land a punch, let alone harm me seriously enough to be threatened. He’s lucky I didn’t lose my shit and attack like I’m trained to do.

@@GigCoachJake Cool, cause you had me worried slap boxing with him there for a sec. Good to keep your cool to an extent, but he crossed the line and there's no telling what other lines he'd be willing to cross or what point. It only takes a second to pull a weapon and then you're at a major disadvantage by not having just smashed on him and skirted immediately.

You best believe my equalizer was close for anything I couldn’t handle with my limbs. It would have been a bad day for him! I’ve been stabbed 3 times before, and got away, so I’m not one to just lay down. Those punks got arrested after I walked myself to the corner store bleeding to death, with a severed left medial delt, and deep wound in my back.

@@joshgordon7839 I don't want to go to jail anywhere. Highly improbable in AZ anyway. Especially in Phoenix and with a video that clearly shows the guy physical attacking him first. Not letting him get in his vehicle and shit. He's lucky Jake's a nice guy.

The guy that initiated the confrontation looks under the influence of something in the beginning as he staggers up to the delivery driver. Then it seems like he keeps opening and shutting the delivery drivers car door. I would be afraid of the guy stealing my vehicle if I were this delivery driver. Scary! The guy could have easily pulled out a weapon. Why engage at all? Not smart.

Once the car was being approached, with the window already open and running it wasn't so easy to hop in and take off. As you can see the driver tried multiple times, and kept this guy from taking off in the vehicle as well. This person was probably a little under the influence, but he walked through a bush, and over two curbs to get to the driver while trying to put his phone in his pocket. The reason I shared this video, is because it wasn't smart whatsoever and a great lesson for everyone else in case they run into something similar down the road. To just hop in the car, roll up the window, and get the eff out. Also, initially he didn't look threatening with phone in hand and smoking a cigarette, but his demeanor changed quick as he approached. It was too late at that point.

Yes, not smart on my part and why I wanted to share with everyone knowing it would be known that it was me by most. I'm here to educate anyway I can, with my own experiences with gig work. This unfortunately stemmed from a bad decision on my part, but I'm willing to admit and share that in hopes that it will help save at least one person of something worse.

I've only had one somewhat unnerving incident so far as I knock on wood. When I rang the doorbell of a house I was delivering to I could hear a dog and a few kids trying to control the dog so they could answer the door. They were taking forever so I rang the bell again. I guess they felt like they had to open the door and when they did, the dog bolted down the street. It was a pit bull and the 3 kids (around 4-8 years old) said their parents were not home. So I hopped in my car and took off after the dog. I found it around the corner attacking a small fluffy dog. The woman was freaking out and yelling at the pit bull. I intervened and put the pit in a choke type hold so the lady could get her dog away from it. Then I yelled at the kids to get a leash and take their dog home because they were just standing there watching and not doing anything. PARENTS: please do not order food if you're not going to be there to accept the delivery. Unsafe! You don't know who is coming to your home to deliver. Got my heart racing for sure!

People are quick to react, without thinking of consequences these days. Ever since the split from the last election, there's been a lot of anger and violent tendencies with regular people. Sad to say, that it will take another disaster like 911 to bring society together again, instead of being so nasty to one another.

Didn’t see me trying to jump in my car quickly and avoid a confrontation, did you???? I put my delivery in the car calmly and then came around the other side to handle this clown, without landing myself in jail. Which is probably what would’ve happened had I did what I’m capable of doing. Difference between you and I is, I’m no pathetic keyboard warrior throwing useless opinions around in comment sections. I still pop off at the mouth at will and I won’t hesitate to step out and square up. 🤷‍♂️🤣😘✌️

What you don’t see and know, is the stuff I’m dealing with in my personal life, and family that has my head a bit messed up right now. It’s easy to judge without knowing what that person is actually going through at the time. Trust that I keep my crap and issues to myself, BUT it takes its toll and we all have breaking points. I am human, and will make mistakes. I’m willing to admit when I’ve made a mistake though and own up to it, unlike most people in this world. Try not to judge just based off what you see, because there’s a lot more to it than what you’re seeing or reading. Thanks for the feedback!

I think he handled it well. He was letting the guy get exhausted and fatigue set in and he tried to get back into his car numerous times. In California that’s a form of hostage crime so Jake could have easily just had the cops come and let this guy exhaust himself. I was at a gas station here in Fresno and a guy pulled up his shirt showing a gun just because I got to the gas pump before him. We need to care about each other more but also need to stand up for ourselves and what’s right. Just learn from it and move on. Like you said, it could have escalated bad
