There must be something about more copyright issues with studios because a lot of them know it's better but they still do the Live versions. This is a prime example of Live falling way short of the studio. They're still going to do Live anyway, I think.

Forget all the songs/videos. Your reactions are simply the most hilarious and enjoyable of anyone on You-Tube!!!!!

No Marvin Gaye, but Smoky Robinson does show up on Daryl's House singing Sara Smile and Oh, Oh Baby. You may want to check that out.

Nice - they played at my high school after we won a Spearamint Gum contest for collecting the most gum wrappers. The 70s were a good time.

Still half as good as the studio

This is one of my all time favorite songs. MUST listen to the studio version girl. So much soul and passion to it.

I'm not one of these people that normally thinks live performances are superior to studio work, but THIS one is a TOTAL BANGER!! It's a very nice variation on the studio version and everyone on stage is just at 100! Total fire!!

Its worth hearing the srudio version at your leisure because John's voice is more forward in the studio version.

I loved growing up in the 70's. The culture of the 70's reverberates through time. For some reason it was an explosion of creativity. Hollywood still relies on making sequels to 70's classic movies like Alien & Star wars, and hip hop artists mix 70's music into their rap songs. It was a very notable decade culturally.

Daryl toured with The Temptations with his first band in the 60s before his joining with John. Then in 1985 they played the Apollo with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin of The Temptations.

The beauty of it all is you don't have to pick which voice is your favorite. They're both right there for you, together

I would listen to the studio version. There is nothing like hall and oates vocals . Very unique and smooth

True, oil and water. But also, Marvin's voice was washed up in the mid-'70s. Speaking of oil and water, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye covered The Philly Soul classic by The Stylistics, "You Are Everything", and while Diana sounded amazing on it (no surprise there), Marvin sounded like crap.

sad yes but it's life. That is the agreement they both made. Daryl said some disrespectful things publicly and John said OK watch this. It sucks, but legally Daryl is right , they both agreed long ago not to burden the other with an unwanted partner by selling their individual shares.

They had an album that came out years ago called " Our kind of Soul ". You need to check out " Live from Daryl's house ".

Daryl Hall is one of the people you didn't recognize in the "We Are The World" video, remember?!👍✌️

It’s gorgeous to see your reaction to these guys…… I was at their concert in the 80’s….. believe me, the ladies were melting.

I was in junior high when this came out. When this song played at the weekly sock hop , it was a slow dance in the dark, with a girl you really liked 😊😊😊

So glad you watched this version Britt so you could see how cool and great John Oates is. I grew up in the 70’s with this music and it brings back so many good memories and still today it takes me away to good places and I never get sick of this song. So glad you reacted to it. ❤❤

Oh one of my favorites of theirs!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤. They're so talented! Quite a rabbit hole to go down!

I mentioned this song on a post when you covered Sara Smile - which is my fave from them... but this song's call and response like vocals It's just so good, really shows how great they work together. They met while attending a band competition in '67 in two different bands. When they found out they were both attending Temple University and clicked so well together musically, they started a new band and collaborated together.

I'm so glad you played that smoking hot version! That was really good! From the same album (Abandoned Luncheonnett) was a song called, "Las Vegas Turnaround." It also showcased John Oates singing ability!! I think you'll love it!!

These guys are stepped in Philadelphia Soul and Doo Woop. This is the sounds that you are hearing. It’s a rich legacy!

In the documentary "We Are The World" that was published to celebrate the release of the song 40 years ago, it is described how there was a moment of tension in the studio, and then Diana Ross went to Hall and said to him she admires him and she asked him for his signature, and that broke the tension in the room. That's how amazing Hall voice and his music was.

Your reaction has me laughing out loud. This is one of my favorite songs they perform.

Same John Hall as was a member of the band Orleans, that you loved so much in an earlier review, during a very different part of his musical career.

"Were they born together?"Cute, innocent and funny. The lady is Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and the DJ from the 70s movie Vanishing Point. And she doesn't even know it. A reaction channel worthy of rewatching.

Got to see them twice in 1981, once with Electric Light Orchestra and once with Aldo Nova and Joan Jett! Both amazing shows. Marvin died in 1984, and I don't think that he ever toured with hall and oats.

Hall and Oates were HUGE for 2 decades. Oates has that warm, dirty sound to his voice. Makes you go 😮. We had the best music in the late 70s through the 80s.

When you go to relisten, I'd really check out the studio version. I would say at least 80% of the true sexiness and PDness is on that version, all though some of the uniqness is caught in this live. And then if you get the chance, check out the above mentioned with Rob Thomas. Rob has an amazing voice but you can immediately tell the level difference when Daryl chimes in. Also if you do enjoy Robs voice check out his song with Santana. Maybe a new PDC member?

No Marvin Gaye, but there are some videos of them performing some Temptations songs with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin.

Abandoned Luncheonette LP. I bought that one in the early 70’s when it came out. Seen them many, many times live in New York when I lived there. Seeing them live will knock your socks off. You have excellent taste my dear. G.E. Smith their lead guitarist I met on the “R” train. He got on at Canal St. and was heading to the Saturday Night Live Studio. to rehearse. We got to talk for awhile. Very nice guy. He was the music director at Saturday Night in the 70’s while still gigging with Hall & Oates. 70’s was a great time in my life. I was in my 20’s and really enjoying life.

Damn u are awesome, so much fun. the Sara Smiles reaction was hilarious. Hall and Oates are like a fine wine that was left in the basement after the house sold. the 80s were full of solid bands. i was a little kid then but hearing it now i can jam to it. Daryl Hall has a very active youtube channel now where he jams out with whoever. So cool to see him still at his craft.

In the 80’s Daryl Hall was voted the most soulful white man on the planet.

Absolute favorite Hall & Oates song. I just heard it on the radio one day 20 years after H&O were at their peak in the 80s. Loved it.

Hall & Oates are absolute legends. One of my all time favorites.

Great song. Studio version i like best, their notes go higher, but in this they can be more creative.
