That would be Mr. Billy Paul. Not a one hit wonder, he was one of the greats of Philly soul.
The original artist was Billy Paul I believe in '72

Daryl Hall has a killer YT channel called Live From Daryl's House. His house of course is a huge southern mansion and estate out in the woods somewhere like Tennessee or S. Carolina with a large recording studio and party room. Each episode features a famous artist from the last 30 years playing with Daryl's studio musicians and they have a jam session doing their biggest hits and Daryl of course sings and plays with them. It's all live with lots of interesting conversation. Fantastic!

Upstate NY. There are apple orchards all around.
Hall does a spectacular job ...but....Billy Paul has my vote most definitely. I love Motown. My late wife and I used to dance to this and it brings back very good memories for me.thanks for playing and reacting to it.

Absolutely. Everything about Billy's version is perfect. The horns, the strings, the perfect synch with the backup singers ... Billy's version sets a reeeeeal high bar. As good as this is ... nope

Motown, that place between Larrytown and Curlytown.
I worked with a guy whose last name was Jones. His ringtone on his phone when his wife called was this song. And on his truck tailgate he had painted on it , "Me & Mrs. . . . Mrs. Jones ! ". Always thought was pretty cool.
This is an awesome cover. Hall and Oates did a CD called Our kind of Soul. It's mostly classic soul covers with a couple of their original songs.
Lol six year old Britt singing, Me and Mrs. Jones... Lol😂. When you think back, there are a lot of those songs we were singing and had no clue what we were saying or singing about. What our parents thought, 😂😂😂. ❤❤❤❤❤Hall & Oates are sooooo good!!!
"Did I like it? Mind ya business!." Absolutely howled at that one. As for Sir Luther, my favorite of his the live performance at the NAACP Image Awards where he does Dionne Warwick's "A House Is Not A Home".
Love the original..by billy paul

No one can touch the original version.
I love this version and the original by Billy Paul.
It's Darryl, "PHILLY SOUL MAN" He can sing ANYTHING
Saw them in 2021, and every song they played was a hit. Unfortunately, the two are currently suing each other so there will probably be no more tours. I would suggest someone recommend she check out Celo Green Live at Darryl's place.
I’ve been REALLY enjoying these reactions to the older classics!!!🙌🏼
Philly Soul covering Philly Soul. Love it!!
So glad you reacted to this ❤. I love Daryl's ad libs.
This post baby Britt is a hoot.
Oh, honey, many of us have been fans of Hall and Oates for 50 yrs. We've been going to the Church of H&O for decades 🎶 Love this version and the original by Billy Paul
Hall and Oates are native Philadelphians. I can speak for that because I'm from Philly myself. This town is brimming over with talented legends. Pendergrass, Stylistics, Patti Labelle....the list is huge
If you haven't - try Billy Paul's original. Daryl and John grew up in the Philadelphia area and developed their musical roots heavily influenced by the Philly Sound -- Billy Paul, Teddy Pendergrass (Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes), the Stylistics -- Thom Bell/Leon Huff/Kenny Gamble. Daryl is the Bishop of the Church of the Dropped Panties.
Yes Brit, it is a cover. But done so well.

Your reaction is so perfect. You def. need to time warp to the 70's and Billy Paul, Al Green, Barry White, Bee Gee's, et. al. What a time
Love Daryl’s version but Billy Paul kills it!!
You have to do “She’s Gone” from the Live from Daryl’s house which is on YT but guaranteed PDC from that. I know you’ll appreciate their talk of the arrangement beforehand and the music after!
Great tune. Love your reactions :)
You made my day Britt! 😊
Now, you chose one of the best songs I have heard on KZread, kudos, keep em comin'
You should watch Daryl's House. He has different artist come and jam with him. From what I've seen anyhow. We've all sang songs we had no business singing. But we had no idea what we were singing so it's all good 😊
Yay you did this one. Daryl really has aged well. In his shows Live at Daryl's house he's in his 70's and still hasn't lost it. This version almost sounds just like the original by Billy Paul.
Awesome. Hadn't heard this cover before. Some songs hold up to the test of time.
Great reaction Britt you always are so entertaining to watch. Hope you have the day you deserve.
I had the 45 rpm record of the Billy Paul recording when i was 13yo. back in '72. Got it for Christmas with a bunch of other 45's. Oh, and I'm from Philadelphia.
Love this song
... was it neccessary? Absolutely! 🙂
if you're gonna shout out to panties on the floor ... I mean ... it's very true. So of course there are questions. This song is pretty much top-shelf for encouraging young people to get funky. Can't really be too shocked. Hall & Oats are for real. Feels are real.
They do an amazing cover of You Lost That Lovin Feeling. Definitely check it out.
Towards the end…He actually mixed in Luther INGRAM’s -“If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don’t Want to Be Right”. Check out “One on One” (great Saxophone) OFFICIAL VIDEO VERSION! Then, “She’s Gone”. “I Can’t Go For That”. “Rich Girl”. Then, more blue eyed soul Bobby Caldwell-“What You Won’t Do, Do For Love”..& Michael Bolton-“How Am I Supposed To Live”. Guaranteed to drop your “U know what!”😊 & DO THE OFFICIAL VIDEOS!!!
Is this woman so beautiful and so wonderful! Britt you are just simply stunning and so connected my love you are so such a blessing and your soul is straight out of everything from the Day I discovered music in the late 60’s and Early 70’s you must have been there I believe you had a afterlife and you’ve been reborn my lady ! I hope you keep on doing your thing . Cause you certainly have a gift and you are so magnificent and such a beautiful, beautiful soul and woman. I just had to get that out to you and all the fans of this woman!
Billy Paul
And to think the original came out 52 years ago! Gotta LOVE you some of that '70s! Keep the great reactions coming Britt! Just came across you recently and love seeing a real person enjoying some great songs! : )
Hall and Oates! Absolute perfection!
BRITT, Thank You for Doing this Video.
First concert that I ever went to 1976. It was amazing. By the way, you have the most beautiful eyes and smile that I have ever seen before. Wow.
Thank you I've never heard them sing that before but I do love the original I forgot who sings it but I love the. Original
You are HILARIOUS!!!!!!
I just had the privilege of seeing him several months ago with Todd Rundgren. Both in there 70's and they were both fantastic. Damn near threw my panties on stage.
I know that you like these soulful renditions, but one of their songs that has a special place in my Jr. High heart was Man Eater , it was a big hit for them. PLEASE react to it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Billy Paul was one of the heroes of Philly Soul. And you are just brimming w/ personality. I enjoy your reactions. Respects from a 77 YO man from Phylly. oops. Philly. Hall and Oates met at Temple University. They first were called The Temptones because the loved THe Temptations.
Still have to do ONE ON ONE by Hall and Oates
"blue-eyed soul", nothing better!
Billy Paul, great songs. Hall and Oaths good job.
Daryl Hall is 6'1" and John Oates is 5'4" so, yes, there is a big height difference there.

The show director asked Oates if he could stand up so that the cameras could get better angles of him to which Oates replied "Um, but I am standing up." 😂
Love that you are loving Hall and Oats. I saw them a few times live in the late 70's. ❤
Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Robinson...lovely ladies
I heard Billy Paul sing this on the radio today. You have to play his version - it’s great.
Daryl Hall & John Oates - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - John sings a lot in this one
You are so much fun to watch -
I’ve always loved this song. I like the original artist version also.
As a male I would never appreciate being described as a Ken doll. I have seen my sister changing Ken's pants.

Originally released in 1972 on CBS Records and sung by Billy Paul. Hall & Oates do a pretty stand-up version, I do believe!
This is A COVER SONG. "Me and Mrs. Jones" was a #1 single originally performed by Billy Paul, recorded and released in 1972. THIS IS THE BEST VERSION.

Hall and Oates had so many hits ❤
“Look, it’s cloudy!” Killed. I’ve been killed.
Originally done by Billy Paul early 70s. I dig both versions this is out of this world tho not surprised. Darryl is one of the greatest singers ever. This is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Sadly unfortunately their in a legal battle now over music rights. I don't dig it but it is what it is. John's a very good singer tho Darryl usually takes lead. Their one of the greatest duos ever but The Righteous Brothers are # 1 in my opinion.
“Possession obsession” by Hall and Oates, John Oates swings the whole song.. Absolute Banger !!

Another 🔥 reaction
your comments always make me smile
This is a song by Billy Paul. this is a great version. glad you enjoy it.
This is a great cover. I saw them in concert in the 80s. They were fantastic. The original was sung by Billy Paul. Hall and Oates grew up listening to Motown music. They met as students at Temple University in Philadelpha. Check out another great cover by Hall and Oates "Neither One of us."
You should give a try to Peter Frampton- Baby I love your way, 70s classic
That is one banging cover ain't it Britt?
Brit, you need to watch the performances from Daryl's House!!! Incredible...he brings in different artists and they jam !!! Wowza!
The first fabulous cover of this song was Sandra Bernhard in her one woman show, Without You I'm Nothing , which was in part a comedic/plus/musical genius performance
You gotta listen to “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” by “The Band” The Band will knock your socks off
You was singing it- Funny memories! Brett I have to get caught up with you sweetie!!
Try their, You've Lost That Loving Feeling
You need to check out “Darryl’s House”. He has many different famous artists at his house studio and they jam to all different songs. You’ll love it!
Leonid & Friends
The version you're probably familar with is by Billy Paul from way back in 1972. Watch the version of him performing on Soul Train - it is so smooth.
Aged…just like a fine red wine. 🍷😎🍷
I've always like this song by Billy Paul...but THAT might be the best version I've ever heard. Damn!
Part of the Philly sound...he came up with some pretty exceptional ( famous ) people. Checkout his early yesrs.
I recommended this song in the comments of another one of their songs and I said the original was great. But I stand by my statement that Daryl Hall owed this song. I think he's become a better singer over the years.
He still sounds the same, highly recommend his show Live from Daryl's House
Britt, he doesn't sing this song......he testifies!!!
Great reaction ❤😊
If you like slow jam listen to Paul Davis. " I go crazy "
One of the greatest vocalist of our time darryl hall
1972, Billy Paul. An all time favorite for a slow dance in high school (GRINDER, BELLY RUBBER); whatever you want to call it.
It's worth checking out Todd Rundgren Live at Daryl's House. Rundgren is a spectacular songwriter in his own right. He also produced Hall and Oates' early albums. Hall and Rundgren are magic together. Also, they are both from Philly, just like Billy Paul, who wrote Me and Mrs. Jones.
The Blue Eyed Soul version. Darrel Hall does it quite well! Just saying. Great song!
Darryl Hall grew up singing in church.
And to think: you had no idea who he was when he sang his solo in We Are the World
Chills.
original by Billy Paul
Ubrvtoo cute in ur love and understanding of music😊
