Still my favorite Hall & Oates song. Britt you got to check out the original album version of I Can't Go For That , then do the version with Cee-lo Green from Live From Daryl's House , its better than the album version

Based on his girlfriend Sara, who were together 30 years until breaking up in 2001. She did an interview, said she was in a grocery store years after they broke up and the song came on and she broke down in tears.

Remember that these older bands didn't use auto tune or anything like that. They were skilled at their vocals and instruments.

Lots of modern band can play and sing. I think people embellish the autotune way too much. It's like the invention of the electric guitar and saying well you know people played better on acoustic.

I just love young people finding songs from my 'old days'.

Daryl wrote this song for his longtime partner Sara Allen. Daryl Hall is an incredible singer who was traine by his vocal coach mom from age 3. And, yes, the ladies love him.

Just found out Dianna Ross was such a fan that during the We Are The World recording session she walked up to him told him how much she admired him and asked him for his autograph 🙏🙏🙏👍👍💯

Hall & Oats were and I believe still are the most popular-highest selling duet of all time. I grew up with them, 70s-80s was the best time for amazing music, so many amazing artists including my fav, The Eagles

The crazy thing about Daryl Hall is that he doesn't warm up his voice. He just does this all naturally. He does a show called Daryls House. On a episode with John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls they discuss this. Great show if you want to learn about how music is created and it's history.

Yeah that was a great show, stumbled on it in the early YT days. The PBS home reno show This Old House went and visited Daryl's house and he talked about how he renovated that 1800's house over the years and gave a tour and talked about how he loved old houses and I think bought a smaller one, moved it and attached it to the original house giving him that studio space.

@@SoundofSilence492 Yeah, they are really talented. All of their songs are good but not always my personal taste. I did watch an entire recorded live gig and really enjoyed it. Even the songs i don't like that much really were sounding great live.

If you were ever a fan of "Daryl's House" (where he has famous musicians come to his home originally to jam), in on episode not too many years ago he is doing introductions with a famous musician and he says "And this is Sara." If you blinked, you missed it. I had to rewind it to make sure and it certainly was her. So she is still in his life in some form. I wish that I remember the episode.

70's baby here. One of my favorite groups and songs. Some of the best music.

Sarah was a Philly girl that put a smile on Darryl’s face for a life time…. What a great song 1974/75 times out of period…. Oh Yeah!

You should check out the Daryl's House episode with Cee Lo Green and listen to their version of "I Can't Go For That". I guarantee you that this performance will have you dancing in your chair. Daryl's House is a TV Show where Daryl Hall invites musicians over to his house and they just jam out and eat lunch. They will do a version of a Hall & Oates song and one of the artist who is currently there. They're all recorded live and sometimes they show pieces of them arranging the song. It's pretty freaken amazing tbh.

I would always suggest listening to the studio version of any song before a live version.

“She’s Gone” to me is their best song! “Sara” is number two! When you hear and feel that song, you’ll understand!

Hall and Oates have been my favorite Duo to listen to since 1980. I remember listening to them in Junior High. It felt like they came out with new hit every week.

These two gentlemen have sold millions and millions of records that are known as blue-eyed soul

As someone who grew up with H&O, I love watching a new generation fall in love with them.

This is my 2nd favorite song by this duo behind She's Gone.

Oh yeah , they called it blue eyed soul. They were super stars and Daryl is still a great singer to this day. Got to see him invite other giants into his home studio on Daryl’s place

Gotta say, being a teen and young adult during this time, this was some boot knockin music!!!

Hall and Oates will always and forever be two of my favorites. So much soul.

The song is from 1975. They are the bestselling duo of all times. They have hits for days. Darrel Hall is the lead singer. John Oats is the guitar player. The chorus of "Sara Smile" was reworked in 1996 by Northern California rapper B-Legit into the song "Ghetto Smile", collaborating with Hall who recorded new vocals.

Hall & Oates are a package deal you can't have one in the PDC without the other as their other tracks will show. Love your reactions to the classics, keep up the great work! ❤

That was my era! Hall & Oates..."Blue-Eyed Soul" was what their music was called in the '70's. Yasssss! Daryl Hall (lead singer with blue eyes) and Jon Oates (guitarist and back-up vocals) was hitmakers when I was in junior and high school.

Growing up with this music was unforgettable, I’m glad you’re experiencing and enjoying it so much. Your reaction is exactly as it should be.

Love this song! I had a German Shepherd mix dog named Sara, who used to show her front teeth when I'd sing this to her! This song reminds me of the pretty girl that helped raised my kids. And, yes, Daryl Hall and John Oates are fantastic!

The lead singer is Daryl hall. The guitar player is John oats. Daryl has a show called Weekend at Daryls. Where he invites various artists to his farm. He has a recording studio in his barn, and they go back and forth doing each other's songs. It's Phenomenal.

I mentioned Hall & Oats would likely make her melt on her review of Player's "Baby Come Back". You'd light the candles, pour the wine, turn down the lights and turned on the stereo with this song when your girl came home. In the 70's and out of Philly they labeled this Blue-Eyed Soul.

Its my sincere belief that from the years 1965-1985 the greatest pop music (rock, blues, soul, disco, funk) was produced and that they we will never see an era of music that great ever again! I feel sorry for you young'uns because you truly missed out.
