@@Frostrazor - Being from the outskirts of Philly and even parts of South Jersey, you can't help but be exposed to Soul music. Whether or not you're influenced by it is another matter, but the, "Sound of Philadelphia," will forever be my favorite. Daryl Hall actually got a lot of work as a teen, playing sessions as a keyboardist/backup singer for Gamble & Huff; architects of the Sound of Philadelphia, and later Thom Bell.) Those producers were to Philly Soul what Barry Gordy was to Motown. I wasn't alive during the Civil Rights movement (I'm 46,) but up until then, Soul music was allegedly a VERY integrated sound...no difference between Black and White artists. With the Civil Rights uprise, Whites were pretty much uninvited...that's when Daryl Hall and John Oates become more Folk and Rock, but kept those soulful underpinnings. They refer to their music as Rock & Soul and Daryl detests the, "Blue-eyed Soul," label.

FACTS!!!! Yeah i was gonna say same. These songs didn't just fall out of they sky and I guarantee we weren't up late at night researching the internet for a song that was worthy of your channel. These played on our radio stations, they were part of the regular rotation. We bought records (you know - vinyl) or cassette tapes and listened over and over until it wore out and we had to buy another copy.

I was born in the 80s, but even I remember that sound as "sound of sunday". That's when the radio ran all day long and the whole family was at home. To this day, it reminds me of warm weather and sunshine.

Daryl Hall and Sara Allen although never married had a personal relationship that would end up lasting more than 30 years. Hall was inspired enough by his feelings for Allen that he wrote the highly personal song. "It was a song that came completely out of my heart. I’ve said this many times - it was a postcard. Sad they split because of her younger sister dying (she was their writing partner). Sara said it was like losing a child & the grief, their relationship couldn't take it.

You should check out Ambrosia “How much I feel” or “Biggest part of me”. One of the most underrated groups in my opinion.

I really love Hall & Oates... I grew up on so much fabulous music, and they definitely rank among my favorites!

How did we discover this music??? Bro...we LIVED this music...it's all we knew growing up! 70's & 80's best damn 2 decades for music! I miss those days dearly!

This was the earliest I remember the songs when they were on the charts. I was 4 years old when this was out, but man I remember hearing this when it was fresh! It never gets old. Amazing tune!

Probably need to check out "I Can't Go For That" for your next Hall & Oates track.

I remember the street I was driving down in my mom's car when I first heard this song on the radio. I'll never forget it, obviously I haven't forgotten. It was something I hadn't heard that moved me like Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine." so so good.

If you want to watch and hear how this music is made, you have to watch Live From Daryl’s House. Daryl Hall invites artists to his place to jam with his band. They then have a meal together and talk. It’s a must see.

You got the same feeling when this song first came out! I was in high school, absolutely exploded onto the scene! Everybody loved it, I see by your reactions you love it!

I saw them in concert they were fantastic live!! So much talent! I didn't really "discover" Hall and Oates they were just what was on the radio when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's. Kind of like Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. Big names HUGE songs! It was a great era to grow up in if you like music!

Up until about 1990, all you had to do was turn on the radio. And the variety killed, especially in the 70's - you'd get The Beatles, then Temptations, then Hendrix, then James Taylor, on and on with the SAME STATION...and then before that, our folks' music was amazing too...the Sinatra Swing stuff in the 50s, blues and bluegrass, folk and country. There were about 50 years of music in America that were incredible. Thankfully we can still listen!

BLUE EYED PHILLY SOUL and I got to see them LIVE...They are LEGENDS to me !

Thanks for helping me look at music through a new lens...... you pick up on elements I certainly never saw or understood when listening to this music as a lad. Most often that has to do with the soulful nature that comes out when you actually listen. Thanks for that.

About once every 3 years, my daughter and I get a chance to to a bar and have a girls night out. They have to have karaoke, and they have to have this song. My daughter is the only one beside Daryl Hall that can sing it and do it justice. It is her gift to me to hear her sing it.

Darryl sings what is termed, Blue Eyed Soul. This was released by them in 1975. They also, wrote it.
