Dungeon Master Confesses SICK Fantasy To Player - RPG Horror Story

Ойын-сауық

In today's episode of DnD Horror Stories, we have a tale about a Dungeon Master that tells a player about their sick fantasy in order to try to get her to role play it with her. Then we have a story about a group that ignores all the DMs warnings. And finally, we have a story about a murderhobo that joins a serious GURPS game.

    For the second story, I had something similar. They were in a temple of snakemen, venomous snakemen. They got hit with a poison trap. They find a weird fountain with a liquid elemental made of a viscous, yellow liquid. The first thing to pop into their minds; "Its a urine elemental!" They did admit that it being a venom elemental made more sense. They discovered this when the barbarian TRIED TO WRESTLE IT! Even if they thought it was a urine elemental, why would you wan to wrestle it! The campaign did not last much longer than that session.

    First story: I don’t even know what to say. Everything that guy did was absolutely horrific. I hope OP and the other players are doing ok. Second story: Wow, what a stupid group of players. The DM established that they had to do this one thing, they acknowledged that they had to do the one thing, and then they ignored the one thing and acted surprised when there were consequences? I’d say I cannot comprehend how anyone could be that stupid, but I’ve been on the internet too long. Third story: What on earth did John expect to happen there? Anyone with half a brain cell could see that there was no way for that to end well.

    Cats and Christmas trees are both a wonderful and heinous thing. This year we couldnt get a full sized tree (my cat liked to nap under them as he is the Greatest Christmas Toy of All) and the one we have is up on a table in the corner. We felt bad so we got a bunch of fir branches from outside and tied them to his little kitty scratcher tree and hung up some of his stuffies like ornaments and he is as happy as a clam in rum punch.

    I'm all for changing up parts of pre written modules but what DM did in that first story is like running Horde of the Dragon Queen with no Dragons! One of the core story elements of Curse of Strahd is Strahd's obsession with Tatiana. It's a major driving force of the entire campaign!

  • @etcetera1995
    @etcetera1995 Жыл бұрын

    Thing is, I think a PC being the reincarnation of Tatyana can be a good way of increasing tension and bringing a little more horror to the dynamic between PCs and BBEG- the horror of Ireena's situation is one of a loss of agency, after all. She has to force the biggest threat on the board to acknowledge that she's *herself,* not his belonging or toy. But players should like. Know that's a risk they face coming in. A DM doesn't even have to say WHO the reincarnated PC is, that can come as a surprise to the players as they play (I think it would be a great gut punch~) but they should say something like "Hey I'm thinking of making one of you the subject of the bad guy's obsession, would you guys be okay with that?"

    Honestly, a PC as Tatyana’s reincarnation has always been a point of contention with DMs in discussion. Some would do it, others vehemently disagree. I’m actually someone who does NOT like it- for the same reason as you state. The role is one that represents loss of agency. And being a PC is all about having agency in the situation- having your choices matter. And due to the fact that there’s a LOT of stuff going on with the reincarnate that works both for (and against) the PC that has been chosen, it’s better not to make it so. The reincarnate has the BBEG at her beck and call, has a limited amount of plot armor, has to endure the creepiness of said BBEG on a regular basis, and has PLENTY of opportunities where she can just be yeeted out of the story by RAW, not the least of which by Strahd himself or by another Zarovich. I know the PCs have moments that absolutely suck for them but I usually don’t put it in their way unless I’m absolutely sure they have one of two things: a way to counter/cure it, or a way to prevent the situation. With the horror genre, if you have to have both means to prevent it early on, it’s not really horror.

    I am finishing up a CoS game. And my biggest issue with Ireena is that she is more of the main character than the players. It feels like everyone in Barovia is riding her dick. But because of how important she is in the campaign, if you don't have her charming enough for the party, they are going to yeet her out of the game asap. I got lucky in reworking her personality in my game to fit better with the party.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS Okay so that one holy pool, where you can meet Sergei's ghost? Yeah just say the character got Tatyana's soul exorcised from their body, and now she's no longer piggybacking on their body. It's because of the themes in CoS. You need to have mature players and DMs for the horror stories to happen. I have a CoS game wrapping up. My youngest player is around 17, her dad is also a player (he's the oldest), and my sister (she's dating the 17 year old's dad), and two 20 something year old's. The GURPS murderhobo is an odd case; on the one hand, I'd have said "When the party sees you raise your bow, they get a chance to react and, possibly stop you." but on the other hand while it sucked that an important NPC almost got ganked, it meant he got booted out of the game and the poster didn't have to put up with potentially more (and worse) behavior like that from him...! 1st Story: A complete WTF from start to finish. I'm not sure why OP would've stayed around after the GM tried to narrate their character being violated, let alone stay after they outed themselves as a potential pedophile (or at least, someone with pedo tendencies) but seriously, the whole situation was a complete WTF from start to finish and I hope that nobody else ever has to deal with a GM like them. 2nd Story: Players are a living contradiction. Sometimes, they can suss out end game information based on a random conversation that they had with an NPC five months ago. Sometimes, they can be given the most obvious information, even confirm with the GM that they understand the situation, yet still act surprised when the obvious thing happens. OP didn't do anything wrong in this situation and if the party didn't catch the hint, it was ultimately on them for not taking care of business while they had the chance. 3rd Story: Inviting a rando to an ongoing campaign is a bit of a WTF, but John deciding to try and murder a PC, in broad daylight, while surrounded by that PC's allies, especially after everyone at the table was telling him no and how unreasonable it was, I'm not sure what he expected to happen after he committed to his action.
