Player Claims Racism For A Dumb Reason

Ойын-сауық

In today's episode of DnD Horror Stories, we have a tale about a player who wants the spotlight, and to be an overpowered Witcher. Then we have a story about a player that gets upset and accuses another player of being a racist for a stupid reason. And finally, we have a tale about a DM that invites a player's ex without letting her know.

In a game where dragons can come in more colors than a skittles commercial It can be LIFE SAVING to know what color dragon you're dealing with(homebrew worlds aside). She honestly made a big deal over someone who didn't hear the DM correctly and obviously didn't mean any REAL racial bias on a fictitious and IMAGINARY creature.

Hey kids. Pro tip. I once had a ex that would threaten self harm to try and get me back. I learned how to handle it. First. Tell them that if they ever threaten self harm again you'll have no choice but to call a ambulance for their own safety. Next. If they ever threaten self harm to you again, call a ambulance. By law the police will come too. If the person was actually going to harm themselves then you saved them. If they were bluffing and only trying to manipulate you then they have to deal with the paramedic and police taking them to the hospital for a evaluation.

Ok... Ricky seriously needs to be decked for that stunt. Bringing in the ex without telling her is one thing. It's shifty behavior, but I can at least give them that they *might* have had good intentions. Trying to force a romantic scene between OP and the Ex even after saying they didn't want him there in the first place, actively avoided a previous attempted romance scene, and then attempted to insert him into a romance scene OP initiated with a different PC after BOTH players said "No" is next level duche bag behavior. He can screw AAAAAAAALLLL the way off.

Seeing that she mentioned that Mike turned mutual friends against her so easily! And Ricky's comment about oh you guys were friendly around graduation! It's very likely Mike found out about her with the group and thought he could get back together with her so asked Ricky to help him out first by not mentioning him they're making excuses then finally helping a bro out without any full understanding or addicted better to say no full on care and just think she's over exaggerating Ricky seems like the type who feel that the poster should be appreciative of the links Mike has to go through to forgive her! A victim blamer who decided his friendship was far more important than his integrity! At least the poster now understood why she didn't have any friends before because she was around a lot toxic individuals who just one sidedly believe they're either toxic or they're insultingly incompetent situation she was better off with. At least she found someone

It also shows what type of character Ricky is! Let's be fair here that even if she hadn't come to the game to Matt since he's still in contact with him about running into her and Matt like the creepy is would have asked where she was. I was wondering why he didn't stalk her after this but my guess is that Ricky realized how much he fucked up and finally cut contact with him too fucking late in my opinion but seriously this guy wasn't a master manipulator. He was likely so pathetic idiots were willing to pity him and turned on the poster as I said when my other reply she's better off without such losers! I find people who allow other people around them because they feel pity for them like you know the loser friend that I'm keeping around as a joke. I view these individuals as the bigger losers because people have to have foils around them to look better just have self-confidence issues despite the fact they appeared they don't that's just flaring it out there that you're horrible individual or your weak willed individual who allow trash around you and wonder why people are averse to you maybe because the smell of the trash is keeping them away it might be good to toss that trash out and take a real deep bath and a good scrubbing on your clothes

First story: They may have taken a while to get there, but this group dealt with Asten in exactly the right way-if the problem player and their friends are outnumbering you and pulling rank, just leave the group. If the problem player wants to be the only important character, they can have that as the only character left. Second story: I was going to say that Sorcerer has clearly never spoken to a black person before, but then it turned out that Cleric was in fact black. I cannot believe the sheer entitlement of a white person trying to tell a person of color what they should and shouldn’t be offended by. And even if Wizard had been asking about the NPC’s race, so what? He could have just been clarifying so he could accurately draw the character or something. I have a player who loves making art of our campaign, and they’re always asking me for more detail about what the NPCs look like. The only racist thing that happened in this story was Sorcerer trying to tell Cleric what to feel based on their race. Third story: Matthew and Ricky are both disgusting creeps. I’m glad OP and Terra got out of there okay!

Story 1: Nothing worse than a yes-man who can't say no and a prima donna who was never told no enough by his parents. Someone goes through the effort of homebrewing a class for you and you take advantage of the fact that it's unplaytested and jank to drive the entire campaign into the ground? The GM was also the worse, dude needs to learn that trying to please everyone will only end with nobody being particularly pleased. Probably for the best that the campaign died when it did. Story 2: Anyone who tries this hard to convince you that something innocuous is serious is someone that you shouldn't waste your time with. Seriously, minorities aren't morons who can't tell the difference between an innocent slip of the tongue and something said for the sake of being offensive or rude. Pro tip: If the one POC at the table isn't reacting negatively to it, it's probably because it wasn't actually offensive. Story 3: The only thing I'm gonna say in defense of the DM is that he didn't know that OP's ex was abusive. With that being said, it doesn't excuse the fact that he a) invited OP's ex without telling her beforehand, b) let OP's ex attempt to force OP into a relationship with her and Terra's characters without their consent, and c) trying to defend OP's ex when he tried to preposition her out of game shortly after her and Terra left and at that point, he deserved to have his game collapse because of it. Seriously man, even if you think that things are cool between someone and their ex, it's common courtesy to ask them if it's cool for them to be invited.

You're not helping anyone by being a limp noodle. Story 2 reminds me of a dear friend of mine. White as they come (I'm white too, but I consider that ultimately irrelevant), he would get offended on behalf of various ethnicities, philosophies (except Christians, funnily enough), genders, sexualities, and backgrounds, even when people from said backgrounds expressed that they didn't care. His heart was in the right place, but it got old fast. Still a dear friend, but difficult to talk to. Story 3 has no excuse. Ricky should have asked OP if she was okay with playing with Matthew. If someone uses the I'll kill myself if you don't help me then I'm going to make them aware I'm calling the cops to do a welfare check! Now if they really were going to off themselves that would be the tricker but the thing is I'm threatening them now that I'm going to waste the police's time to check up on them and it likely is going to be very humiliating that should back that shit down and if they off themselves well I'm going to be serious with you such individuals would not be able to hide such red flag Behavior with me because I've dealt with too many of them to count in the past! The idiot would just be wasting their time thinking to scare me when I'm just going to call their Bluff and if they kill themselves well I'm not going to suffer people telling me it's all my fault! I'm not the type who would start saying do it to someone claiming they'll jump I'm not that type of guy! But if it's over the phone like this or it's not in the setting like that then no I don't really care if people are going to fall for that because they're scared of how this will affect them which shows They Don't Really Care just as they didn't care about her then these are not good people. Now if she had off herself I wonder how they would have felt would they have been the quickest way to make even more excuses because you know now they realize Matt is a psychopath and it wasn't a good idea to take his side over her because he kept declaring he would kill himself! This is why I pulled the I dare you well not that but I'm calling the cops welfare check card as I said many other pieces of shit use this card on me and they know how people will be affected when they threaten to kill themselves if they don't get their way! They'll try to bargain because they're more scared of being personally responsible despite the fact that someone who threatens suicide if you don't do as they say you know taking themselves hostage are just as bad as hostage takers you don't negotiate with terrorists!

I work in nursing role in forensic psychiatry, putting myself through med school. So I interact with one of these groups regularly. A dr Tara Palmatieri has great videos here on youtube for how to spot crazy, hopefully before a relationshit forms, and how to escape if you are in one already. And kids, if someone shows red flags, it doesn't matter if they have a diagnosis or not. Terrible behaviour is terrible behaviour, and no-one deserves any of the kinds of behaviours that form the diagnostic criteria, let alone the full complement. Pretending like this is a slanderous insult seems to me to be the racists part. There is nothing wrong with being black so why is clarifying a creature/human is of the black variety some sort of insult? I mean i get why it was amusing the way it is said, but it's not insulting.

There are people who will tell you to use African American instead of black. Only that only applies to African Americans, and not the various other black nationalities out there. So your guess is as good as mine. Probably has to do with tone and context more than anything.

I've really come to like these channels describing the absolute weirdos, and sometimes overly disturbing personalities that (whether self-aware or not) seek to destroy what should be enjoyable RPG experiences for all. (Not advocating for the weirdos... they're truly despicable... just saying that these tales are entertaining, infotmative, and excellent background noise for when I'm playing video games.) I also love how this channel is a vehicle for showcasing your adorable pets 🙂 Kerp up the great work!

So word "black" is as pushed back word as Voldemort in Harry Potter? I never knew about racism as a kid, and never really knew about it when I was a teen, and I never felt like there should have even been space for that. People still brawl through the days and nights, because of words, and just to keep the fires of hate burning? One is passive aggressive, and other might be just aggressive... When this insecurity loses its place, and people be able to find more positive grounds, even if they would still be coming against each other from time to time?

2nd story, there is a group of people these days that only care about being offended and take any opportunity, no matter how socially unacceptable it is, to be offended. I suspect the sorcerer is one of these people. I would say people like this are part of the reason why terms like Woke, Feminist and Social Justice Warrior have garnered negative connotations despite all being positive/good things. These people are not the only reason but a big BIG part of it, it's a sort of radicalization to such an extreme point where they don't even represent the oppressed or victimized people in question any more... and their response to that, get offended. There isn't a case in the world where following an ideological extreme ever leads to a positive result. My opinion on being offended however mirrors that of Stephen Fry: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rKWExcymXbubd7Q.html

Agreed. I am a liberal and relatively on the woke side, at least what the far right considers to be woke. That said, there are people so damn woke that the double back into being racist/sexist/bigoted themselves. Using something current as an example, the live action Little Mermaid. There are some black people saying that Ariel should have remained white because they want diversity with NEW characters, not "fixing" old ones arbitrarily. There are "woke" white people defending the black Ariel so vehemently that they're actually using slurs against them because they "deserve it" for being "race traitors". And when I say slurs, I mean the full gambit.

That's at least my personal experience with how these people think. It's not actually about equality and social justice for them, it's about narcissists and their egos. They dont care about the people or causes they "fight for", they only care about feeling superior to others and getting attention.

So about the slip up... I have a personal thought in this. It used to be my belief ghat you could mix'n match anything. Bring politics into videogames, talk about whatever for the purpose of conversation, but the last decade and beyond proved that this isn't always the case. It's ok to call a spade a spade, what's next, a Red Eyes Black Dragon being racist, I know Blue Eyes White Dragon is ok. What about Black Skull Dragon and I am not being funny, I am being honest. I feel that D&D is not what ot used to be. My only true allegiance with it was the 1980s cartoon and the first live action in the 2000s I think it was, Jeremy Irons was in it. Anyway, these horror stories are showing me that fixes are neaded on both sides. We need more people that want a game for all on the DM side and need more people that don't want to ruin the fun out of pettiness, and yet, it seems that this is mixed and matched. Sometimes the problem people are reversed. So a compromise seems to be but one solution but really, it's a game and should not be necessary. Kick the bad players and start a new, but sometimes the damage is done and the story fades into obscurity. There's alot of sensitivity, and I wanna gove people the benefit of the doubt. I do enjoy these stories because they are well recounted, some being 10 years ago or so, THAT"S INCREDIBLE! And I love it when readers here put voices in the reading(Den of the Drake and Crispy's Tavern come to mined for that. But the bad is a part of the taking with the good, so where do we go from here. It might stifle progress in the scene but announcing rules before a game might be best, weed out the interlopers before they interlope. Back to the slip up. I saw nothing wrong, a comment on a creature in world was made and if it's black, then it's black, But someone else could not see that. It's technically not a slip up and even if said dragon was not black, it's just the revelation of an error, not a big deal. "Oh, it's not a black dragon?... My bad"! And then the game can proceed. Just a light hearted scenario. I personally really like black dragons, particularly in Yugioh, Red Eyes being me favourite. And the examples I brought up were made in earnest. I wanna keep watching these videos but some seem more sentimental than others, but there is work to be done, in order to have a good game. I do have an idea for a story though, I will have to do some brushing up on D&D from back in the day though. Thx Doge, your story telling is good and your cat are cute!]:3

I honestly don't get story number two. Like I can see it can be a tone of voice thing, but unless you are looking at a picture you tend to describe things giving relevant information. For a dragon, the colour is definitely relevant information. It could even be relevant information if in a story. A white man and a black man walking into a town in the Southern states in the 1930s would have two different reactions, so the colour of their skin is relevant. Saying the color of a guy's skin in the background of a story when he is just sipping a beer at the bar while the party is talking at a table is not relevant so would be a curious thing to mention. It really is the same thing as if you are talking about someone you know, there are very few times when you need to talk about what colour or ethnicity they are. That is usually only done when someone asks or when it is important to a story the same as above.
