Liking Rent a Girlfriend is probably a WAY bigger red flag than liking Dragon Ball.

It's possible that the group didn't actually know what "incel" means. From OPs description, the group sounds VERY junior high- "Rent A Girlfriend" is an anime that only appeals to people with a slim knowledge of both relationships and harem anime, and saying something is "for little kids" because you don't like it (or are too "cool" and "mature" to like it) is also a very 13-year-old thing to do- nobody else is so overtly obsessed with looking like an adult. Probably they just heard somebody using the term "incel", and assumed it was some generic insult for people who were losers.

During one of the battles the artillery commander, I think it was Knox, told Washington that they were running out of cannon balls and could not keep up the rate of fire. Washington, remembering how hard old fruitcakes were, asked if the artillerymen still had the fruitcakes their families had sent them and if so fire them at the enemy.

I honestly thought the anime in question was something questionable, like a certain anime that underwent memetic mutation a few years ago and won't be named in case my assigned FBI agent decides to come knocking. I'd like to throat punch the DM who claimed wind doesn't affect bullets. There's an account of a sniper having to adjust his crosshairs to the extreme in order to land an accurate shot as he was operating in a sand storm. I'm going to try and find the article. I keep finding links about Insurgency Sandstorm but found a relevant article about a Canadian sniper shooting a terrorist two miles out. Precision fire like that requires calculations for windage, elevation, and other factors that my monke brain can't comprehend. Tl;Dr, bullets don't shoot straight.

1st Story: Mud brought everything that happened to him onto himself for being a pervy weirdo. Who the hell shows someone creep shots of two other players at the table, let alone to the host who already chided him for watching adult videos while he was supposed to be focusing on the game? It's probably a blessing in disguise that this guy outed himself before he could actually get that coffee date. 2nd Story: Now, I'm not going to comment on anyone's tastes in anime personally, all I'm gonna say is that calling someone an Incel for watching Dragon Ball, while recommending Rent-a-Girlfriend as stuff they should watch instead, is the type of thing that would only be possible in a sitcom following a dense protagonist (ironic I know) or nerds whose only human interactions are through online interactions with strangers they'll never meet. Either way, OP dodged a bullet. 3rd Story: I'm glad that Coward was ejected from the group after they found out what they did. Pathological liars are a blight on any friend group that they're apart of and anyone who'd tell a bold-faced lie the way that they did is the type of person that shouldn't be trusted under any circumstances, especially when the only reason why his plan didn't succeed was because OP and his friends decided to talk in private to figure what the heck was actually going on. 4th Story: Showing up with a blank sheet and worn dice, red flags but not the worst thing I've ever heard in a horror story. I've played the original way back when, then later bought the second one, but never played past the 2 hour mark. Not because I didn't like it, but just got busy. With the 3rd one coming out, I figured I'd dig out my Wii U and finally get through it, and eventually pick up the third one.

Have you ever had someone in D&D say something small you've said or done is "an enormous red flag" before? Mine was this; I asked what we should roll to make our characters, and the DM replies "you haven't even written your backstory yet", so I said "oh I know, but my backstories are typically different depending on the stats I roll", the DM says "wow, I'm immediately getting all kinds of serious red flags from you, clearly you only care about power-gaming and combat, and not the story or campaign setting at all", I was really confused so I tried to explain further, saying "no I do, but typically a character's backstory would be different depending on ability scores, so like if I rolled super super well, in my backstory my character would have had to work for his stats, so every day he'd wake up to a workout, then training, then revision, before off to spend time with a great many friends at the tavern when the sun starts to set, but if I roll really really low, that might reflect a younger more naive character who hasn't yet had to face any real hardship, maybe a spoiled noble or lazy merchant, or perhaps even afflicted with some kind of disease or curse that made him so weak, you know?" the DM then ghosted me for four days, then showed up saying she doesn't allow power gamers in her games, and booted me from the server.

First story: What, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck. Mud is a disgusting excuse for a human being, and while OP is right about how they should probably have kicked him sooner, I think they did all they could other than that. OP, if you’re reading this, don’t blame yourself. The blame here lies entirely on Mud’s shoulders. Second story: I have two things to say about this story. First of all, that group has no idea what an incel is. Second of all, OP dodged a MASSIVE bullet. Third story: Rich of Coward to accuse OP of trying to start a fight when he was the one actively trying to ruin OP’s relationships with their friends! That guy sucks. That guy sucks hard. Fourth story: I guess that’s what you get when you play D&D with a two-year-old. Wait, what do you mean Phil was an adult?

Even professional real world snipers try to avoid taking their shots during inclement weather due to the unpredictability of the environment. Hell, when i was still in the service, if it was too windy, we didn't go to the range because the high winds made it too hazardous to predict how the bullets would ricochet even on an open range (now if it was rainy, cold and muddy we had to stay out there until 2300 lol). No bullet, no matter the caliber or speed is unaffected by wind. So coward has no idea how firearms work first of all. And I don't think he would have been any better as a player if his DM skills were any predictor of the type of ttrpg gamer he was. If I had to guess, he is likely a power gamer, rules bender lawyer, dice fudger, and will likely be they type of player to bog down a session arguing a ruling or on obscure lore for hours on end. But that's my prediction

Rent a Girlfriend is particularly hilarious to me for one scene involving a pool that perfectly describes diehard fans of that show and thats all I’m gonna say.

Lying to someone about their friends is one of the dumbest thing you could do. More so when they are in active communication. And Rent a girlfriend sounds like an cringe anime.

Just liking any anime certainly isn't a red flag. On the other hand, being an enthusiastic fan of Dragonball Z (or other over the top power fantasy animes) in combination with having little to no experience with TTRPG could be a red flag. Those are the guys who produce the entertaining D&D horror stories about clueless players who model their characters after anime superheroes, hog the spotlight, expect to be able to do anything those characters could do and then throw tantrums when they get themselves hurt or killed.

First Story: I think OP did the right thing all around. First time a warning. We all do games and other stuff on our phones and computers ( i was once in a group of 20 players, yes that was insane never again, and it took so long to get anything done that I ended up playing Skyrim between attacks or when I could pipe up to interact with NPC's or traps). If I was in the group, I would have told him that that was not good what he was watching and could he not do that here. The OP trying to be his friend and opening up to him was also a good move. I don't think there was any indication Mud was going to pull that move, and when he did and was proud of it, OP also did the right thing by booting him. Sometimes shitty people happen. Second Story: Otaku here, and time to crack my knuckles at these gate keepers. I think OP dodged a bullet. Rent a girlfriend is trash! I'm glad I dropped that show after 3 episodes. It's not worth watching, especially how pathetic the main character is. The fact that they recommend that show is in of itself a red flag!

If there is one anime that's Mainstream but would likely appeal to incels, it's Rent a girlfriend... Unless they just get super triggered by Mami.
