If you move your hand really slowly over top a fly, and lower it slowly down on the fly, the fly won’t even detect that your hand is in motion, and you can get right down on him before he knows what happened. It’s not as cool as catching one wth chopsticks, but maybe you can exercise those childhood chopstick demons. Give it a try!

@@ruutjormun2262 no. It's quite possible with the access to information today to gain all of this knowledge (although some of this information is bunk). However, the benefit, for me at least, is that the standard education is structured and builds each week. Not knowing where to start can be a daunting task in the fitness world. For example, I just finished a project for advanced biomechanics where I had to analyze a swing in baseball. Every joint in the body, internal and external forces acting on the body, muscles responsible for moving the joints, and then make recommendations for improvement for my sample athlete. Without having exercise physiology and motor learning prior to this course, I would've missed a lot of details. Something seemingly simple turned into 10 pages. So, it's possible. But it's likely difficult.

Brilliant commentary! Too fkn good! 😆 "Crushing your opponent's picture is critical to success, everyone knows that" = highlight#1 "Hitting all time PRs for boxing is some combination of irrelevant and a terrible idea" = honourable mention

Karate kid was written by a Goju black belt. The founder of Goju was “Chōjun Miyagi” from Okinawa. That is exactly how you block in the soft part of Goju. The way the bad guys train is very familiar to the hard part of Goju. It’s like they split the style in two for the film. Also all the beach training is not for technique really, we all know that kick is not really performed like that, as does Miyagi, what he is learning is to overcome his primary weakness as a fighter: lack of focus. We see that in the scene before, with all his jumping and fooling around. By making him balance on something he has to stop all that shit. This is excellent focus training. It’s more an 8 out of 10 for stand up fighting.

I think you were a bit too brutal on karate kid but I'm also a karate practitioner. Wax on wax off wasn't to make him do a perfect block, it was to build muscle memory as a foundation of learning to block. Karate also does use blocks like that but they involve two hands and more nuance. You're right about the balance part, except he wasn't only trained for competition. He was training balance mentally, spiritually, and physically. This is an important concept in traditional martial arts. That's why a traditional martial artist is gonna say something along the lines of, "it's more important to know when to fight than how to fight."

Yeah Dr. Mike is extremely knowledgeable but I don’t think he was looking at those things in the right way, rather he was looking at it in the scope of just physical fitness

As a trainer in a commercial gym I agree 1000 percent with the analysis of the Pain and Gain scenes. Sometimes I catch myself completely zoning out in the middle of spotting a set of standing overhead presses while listening to a rich (or so they want you to believe) man/ woman talk about “how they made their first million.” I know it’s wrong but after hour 4 plus (or 8 clients plus) it’s inevitable 😂 I love this video btw and you should definitely do more in this format!
