Building The Perfect $1,000 Watch Collection - Over 25 Watches Mentioned

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Some of the most asked questions that I receive on a day to day basis involve what watches should I get with this amount of budget? On the surface, the answer seems easy enough, yet it is always more involved given the many different variables needed to be considered. In this video, I look to answer the question for the best collection that you can build for $1,000 but instead of just simply listing out watches, I wanted to define types of collectors and develop choices for each of the different collecting personas. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks for watching! Two Questions: 1. What collecting persona are you most like? 2. What would be your choice for a $1,000 Watch Collection? Quick corrections with the khaki pilot pioneer, it has a mineral crystal and the Damasko lug-to-lug is 46 mm not 41.

    1. PERSONA 1 - I have to have one of each "style". Different straps and bracelets could essentially double your collection as well. 2. Starking AM0184 (high beat) dress watch, Seiko 5 sport (snzg11J1) everyday field watch, and finally Bulova lunar pilot chrono. That's definitely way under the budget so now I can pick up some nice straps to switch it up. Great video, thanks!

Teddy, your approach to this challenge is absolutely perfect! Seriously, this is the spot-on advice for the "average man's" approach to buying watches on KZread! I laughed at how many of the 'personas' I fit into!! Of course, Producer Michael's videos are wonderful escapism, but this is rock-solid practical advice in an overwhelming choice of watches. THANKS. And it's re-assuring to see that my old collection matches some of your intentions (though not the actual watches), I do have and love my Casio World-time! Since my old collection was 'check off boxes'/'hipster' for a sub-$150 (yes - that CHEAP, with some really obscure Chinese oddities from the deepest bowels of Amazon), I'm looking to upgrade the old collection, and here I go... If there's one thing this awful Covid-19 virus and its enforced lock down has given a positive, it's giving the time to sort out online interests/content and your channel is a subscription-keeper! Good luck to you.

First off, congratulations on the 200k milestone and for the amount of effort that went into this list. You've really stepped up the production value and it shows. I'd see myself as a persona 1, I like variety as I select watches on mood or what task I'm doing. If I had the budget I'd probably go for a Lorier Neptune (blue), Hamilton khaki quartz (silver dial), a casio f91w, Orient Bambino and rounding out with a casio dw5600. I think that's under 1000 but I'm terrible at maths.

I think one watch that would have fit for the "one watch collection" option would be the Christopher Ward C60 Trident. The 42mm version with the white dial is really versatile, as the generally clean aesthetic and applied indices make it a really nice option as a dress diver, and it's also a very capable as an actual diver with 600 meters of water resistance (although, granted, it's not ISO certified). Also, the Helm Vanuatu would fit quite well in the "diver fanatic" category. It has a great brutalist tool aesthetic similar to the Sinn U1 and is ISO certified.

I tried this and personally, I felt saving up for the watch that YOU WANT is more important than having 2-3 watches for the sake of different events. Basically, get a 'substantial' watch that can be dressed up or down and save up for the next one. The wait for the watch you worked hard for will be more rewarding than getting 2 or more sub-par watches limited to a budget! Then again, to each his/her own :)

I think Tissot is underrated. In fact, Seastar is an excellent watch. I have added the Seastar and Silicium to my collections recently. I really love these watches. They are very versatile for different occasions.

This was brilliantly composed. It's no easy task to nail down the different enthusiast strategies (I definitiely fall into the "perfect duo" category, or at least aspire to!). In a future video, it would be great to hear your take on how to go about paring down a collection to a few time pieces - how to make those hard choices in letting some pieces go to give others more room to breathe (and lower costs of maintenance, etc.). True wisdom is to not accumulate in the first place, but for those of us who love timepieces and want to know them from a "worn" perspective, that's often difficult.

Type of collector: "The vintage guy" will only own a watch if its +30 years and find every modern watch ugly and all of those heritage and vintage inspired as "fake" and "why not just get the real deal?" Note* might be hard with an exact price for vintage, but could be cool to see*
