In this video, we take a look at a selection of watches, all under $1,000, that I would consider to be icons in the industry. These watches set themselves apart through their historical significance, reverence, design prowess, or innovation earning them that icon status. We look at watches from Seiko, Casio, G-Shock, and Hamilton, just to name a few. What other watches have earned the title of ‘Icon’?

Hey All, thanks for watching. At 6:36 I accidentally said Hamilton is no longer based in Switzerland when I very clearly meant to say the United States. Sorry for the confusion. For those interested, here is our complete video discussing the history and breakdown of the khaki field collection: kzread.info/dash/bejne/enequMOTncysY5s.htmlsi=632AdYGond4oZq7e

Much appreciated!
I love the F91W. When I travel on my adventures I give these away to people, I meet, that don’t, or never will be able to have a watch. It’s amazing how many people live their lives never knowing what time it is.

My 5yo son and i have a F91-W he is so proud of it, and to share the same iconic watch with his father, and me with my son. Best decision ever.
The seiko daytona ssc813 was my first ever "expensive" watch and I dont regret it one bit! it is soooo gorgeous in person and really pops!!
Teddy is just allways nailing the right videos to the right time im looking for some new watches which have history or are simply icons for under 2 Grand Thank you teddy for allways creating content for free for us
Teddy this was an absolutely excellent video. All of your videos are excellent, but this one was especially insightful. I'm a huge fan of yours, keep up the work.
Missed some Timex models, and the Casio Royale too. Loved the Glycine mention, great video Teddy!
Big shout for including Laco on this list! I have an Aachen 39 and it’s been a great addition to the collection.
I appreciate that you state the criteria for the selection of watches. I'm glad that you give Citizen its due for what it has created for this industry. This major brand often gets left out of a lot of enthusiast discussions. I have a couple of Promaster Divers and they are really fantastic.
Loved this content Teddy! Plz do a "1000-3000" for the next video!🎉🎉🎉
I love the F91, such a cool watch with a lot of charme

A very versatile choice.
I love that you mentioned laco! It’s absolutely amazing that you can get such iconic watches for great prices , with the pedigree and quality that is crazy for that price range. Hopefully I’ll treat myself to one this year.
Awesome stuff.. love those Lacos ❤. Great interpretation of 'iconic' within a budget. Thanks. More please.
Teddy, I like that you care about the people who are just getting into the hobby. Young people and ones who don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on the big brands. God bless you!
I purchased a G Shock DW9052 the day before I graduated from Marine Corps boot camp. Still have it, still works 👍🏼
Great and interesting video. Thank you!
This video proves you don't need thousands of dollars to build a beautiful collection. Couldn't agree more with Teddy. Value of a watch is proportionate to how it makes you feel when you look at your wrist, be it a 20 USD Casio or an high end AP.
Great video, Teddy!
i guarantee a majority of watch collectors started with a seiko 5

Great job again. Thank you so much. Greetings, Òscar.
Love this. Nice to see that as a very low budget collector I have a few iconic watches. F-91w, 5600 with a Seiko 5 and Speedtimer both on my list. Thanks Teddy
thanks, i enjoyed this video more than i thought i would
A great video. Thank you. I want to point out that at 6'36" you say that "Hamilton is no longer based in Switzerland" and I am sure you meant to say that it is no longer based in the United States, or that it is now based in Switzerland. Thank you again. It wonderful watching your channel and brand grow.

Teddy - as always - handsome and awesome! Thank you for this selection and explanations to each model & brand. I own none of them by now - but you made me reconsider some left overs from my wish-list...
One watch that I’d recommend is a Seiko Alpinist. I tend to wear it more than my higher end watches. Amazing value in my opinion.
Positively LOVE that you showed a huge ding on the side of the Seiko 5 case. Watches are tools, and until they have a few nicks and dings, they lack pedigree

Another cracking video Greetings from England 🇬🇧
I love the Bulova Lunar Pilot. What a story! I own three versions, they get a lot of wrist time.
The Seiko Speedtimer is INCREDIBLE. Friend of mine bought one for his kid and couldn’t believe how good it looks in person. One of those watches that look ten times more expensive than they are.

Great list, enjoyed the video! One I would add would be the G Shock DW-6900 just for it's pop culture significance alone
Great video! I will be in Cleveland in July. Maybe I will stop by the shop
Great video Teddy! Casio Duro would make my list.
Good video teddy i like videos like this one good job.💯👍
Great video. I actually just purchased myself the f91w and I love how it feels. It will be my daily driver for the next while.
As far as icons go, I feel that the Hamilton PSR deserves a mention- not necessarily in the video, but definitely in the comments. Being the first digital quartz watch did start off a whole new area of watch design- even though LCD displays took over a short while later.
Out of all the watches I own, Seiko Speedtimer gets the most eyeballs & as a bonus sits on my small wrist perfectly. It punches above its range when it comes to finishing & looks. Thanks for mentioning it last year and I have recommended it to many.
Dig the new background Teddy!

Thanks. This was my first time shooting in the new set. Will keep tweaking to make better.
Super video as always! Maybe missed a Timex Expedition/Weekender and Tissot PRX? But a solid list nonetheless!
I am proud to own the DW-5600E as it is the most versatile watch with great viewing angles and extreme durability. It also doesn't compromise on comfort for the price.
would recommend the Casio DW5600 as well for beginner collectors. Its an excellent watch and very sturdy
Strongly miss the Hamilton PSR and the Orient Bambino on this list 😉 Cheers Teddy!
Teddy, thank you for these my man! You have officially broke my habitual mindset that we need to spend >$5k for a great watch. So much more fun to collect and learn about quality that can be found sub $2k all day long. As always- well done.
I love this! I only have 4 watches, but the Laco Aachen and Citizen Fugu being mentioned made me think I made good choices!
I definitely need a Laco watch but Augsburg 39 or Aachen 39, the Augsburg is clean and retro but the Aachen just screams flyboy 🤔😎
Great video
I couldn't agree more with your selections. However, if you're open to considering a few more contenders, I'd love to consider: Tissot Visodate (1953, reintroduced 2010), also Tissot T Classic Longines Conquest (I think 1953?) Doxa Sub 200 (1967) Q Timex (1979) Seiko SKX007 (1996) even if you mentioned the Turtle, the SKX is iconic itself Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Diver (1995 or 96)
Love this video. makes me want to pick up another seiko 5.
I would like to see another video of this type, but in stead of specific watches, perhaps talk about how certain brands have influenced or revolutionized the industry.
Ooo I would like any of these. Great list. The 5 or Speedtimer for me though.
I have had the SSC813 for a while but have not been wearing it too often because it’s supposed to not require wrist time to keep running unlike the mechanical ones. Just gave it some more wrist time this week and it’s actually growing on me, the sporty bezel and pushers give a very sporty vibe, although the brushed top and polished side finishes are quite odd.
Glad you mantioned Citizen promaster. People and some reviewers too do not apreciate enough this watch. Great value for divers watch.
Thank you for mentioning Glycine. I've never heard of them but I think I'm going to buy one now.
Love my Lunar Pilot and Ausgburg, thanks for profiling them.
I am so much looking forward to own the Turtle. Looks so iconic.
Love the mention of the Glycine Airman!
I meant to comment on your previous video "Reacting to the 50 Most Important Watches of all Time", specifically to your inclusion of the Glycine Airman, a watch I love and own and one that I've championed for several years now. As a pilot for over 50 years and flying professionally for over 40, I wore a 1983 Rolex Pepsi GMT for most of my career, and 32+ years as my "one" watch. In 2018 when my one pilot owned Pepsi [complete full set] was appraised for ridiculous money, I purchased an Airman, 42mm Base 22 model as my everyday working/flying watch. Thank you for helping to champion this unloved classic.
Watching this after just getting my F91 the other day!!
Donghua Jinlong getting REALLY excited at 3:58
The Max Bill is pretty iconic
Had other watches on this list. Great watches for their prices. And still have my $35 DW-9052 (black with yellow accents), that is absolutely incredible, and lot of 56xx... I would have added the World Timer to the list, it's also something iconic in its own right.
Great Video Teddy! I started following you since 2 months and i watched your videos and i start collect watches ofc not only collecting also watch industrie (more informarion about watches, watch movements , brands etc..) my first watch is G-Schock GWG-2000 Mudmaster then i bought Tissot T-Race GP Moto Limited 3333 then Hamilton Khaki Field Auto and this week bought Seiko 5 Auto GMT and i want some help to choose my next watch : 1- Mido Multifort Patrigony or Big TV or Seiko Speedtimer or Bulova Lunar Pilot which of those 3? Cheers!
I think the orient bambino deserves a mention (in part 2 maybe), as well as the tissot prx (which marked the beginnings of a whole slew of affordable 70's style integrated bracelet sports watches, while simultaneously pulling from its own archives) and I do also consider the Moonswatch (yes the fatigue I know, but still the attention it drew and the inspiration it gave for further plasic collabs - see the new Tag Heuer)
I have three of these watches. Hoping to have the Hamilton field watch eventually.
Iconic watches under $1G makes sense as you can have iconic watches at all price points. Bark & Jack did a video on his "Affordable Grail". Wonder if he is going to do a video on "Affordable Grail Under $50" next.
F91W is such a classic. Bought a green one in Kyoto for only €9,- last week. Insane value.
I used to loved the $20 dollars Casio watch. What a great machine !!! Simply love it !!!
I bought a Laco from your online store because my Dad was a pilot and would have appreciated its flight instrument look. It gets a lot of wrist time.
Hello could you please tell me the exact model the seiko is at the 15 second mark you show very quickly? Better yet if you sell it on your site the link…..
Very interesting video. I'm slowly getting into collecting, it seems as if a lot of older guys like me buy watches at the mall and are not interested in the history or collecting. Except for the casio duros and gshocks that I wear because of my rugged lifestyle. I am skipping Bulova and Citizen due to so many clueless mall people wearing them
Part 2 please with the Orient Bambino & Seiko Presage
I picked up a Bulova Lunar pilot earlier this year at the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) at Marine Corps Base Quantico. It was on sale, got it for $398!
Great video and list. I think the only real gap here is a big one-the Duro.
Glad you mentioned Glycine! The make is massively under appropriated. Some watches are very inexpensive and it is of high quality

I'm glad too. I've never heard of them but I think I'm going to buy one now.
Casio duro is also a great watch. ❗
what do you think of double wristing ? i have a gshock 5610u and an orient open heart and love them both !
The Glycine Airman is a great pick, but don't overlook their Combat Sub. It's the best Field/Dive watch combination for the money. It's available in a wide range of dial colors and finish options.

@@TeddyBaldassarre I own both the Airman and the Combat Sub [both pre-Invicta models] and while the Combat Sub is not the Icon that the Airman is... It is, IMHO, the best value Swiss [ETA movement] dive watch for the money [easily purchased for under $400 USD].
My first serious automatic watch was a seiko king turtle, limited edition. It looks so tough that it replaced my g-shock on a daily wear. And of course I own a Gshock B 5000
Haha, my collection includes two of these, the G-Shock and the Seiko Turtle. I also have a vintage Seiko 5 DX from 1968 to boot!
Hey teddy i hope you read this! I love this watch and it was the reason i started collecting. My issue is that my chrono second hand now sits at the 4 second mark. The more i use the chrono the more it “creeps forward” little by little. i dont know what to do, do you have any suggestions? Could it have been magnetized or is there an internal part that’s broken?
@TeddyBaldassarre
27 күн бұрын
The problem and answer is dependent on the type of watch and movement. For a mechanical watch that is not normal so it could he a variety of issues. It could be an issue involving the reset lever since you mentioned it being gradual creep. 4 o’clock is not an insignificant misalignment. This would be a question for a watchmaker that will need to try to diagnose the problem. If it is a quartz watch, you are in better luck as many quartz chronographs have a recalibration feature where you can move the hands to get aligned without any additional work.
If a seiko isnt in the thumbnail, then it aint Teddy.

That Seiko truly deserves it tho… A beautiful watch. Much better looking than the newer 41 m versions too imo.
Timex Expedition (digital), mid 90's, on the leather and nylon strap. Perhaps the Casio Calculator also.
I’ve had my F91 for 8 years now, it’s my work watch. It’s all beat up and it’s got cement and paint splattered all over. I actually use it everyday to time when I’m mixing thinset. 💪
I think the Tag Heuer f1 needs a mention (although it's over budget) for me & many others it was the gateway watch into collecting.
I enjoyed viewing this. I wonder if the Timex Q could be a worthy addition.
The watch that introduced me to this world was the Hamilton Khakhi field "Murph". I was watching Interstellar and fell in love with the watch and then I started following the watch world. I am happy to say I am in a job where I can afford that now but availability is an issue in India. So I will be asking my colleagues who travel to the US to get it for me. I will be having one in 3 months time hopefully.
Hello teddy ! I was wondering why you don’t talk about the LIP brand with for exemple the model T18 which have a great story behind it.
For my birthday my wife bought me a SEIKO SSC913P1. It's a lovely watch, it looks great and it does what it needs to do very well but sadly, even at 41.4mm it looks a little small on my 8" wrist and doesn't quite sit right. I now have my eye on a 44mm from Longines.
I like the Khaki Field Mechanical, but haven't purchased it because I believe the 47mm lug to lug is too long for the 38mm watch.
I think you missed the Hamilton PSR, without it we would not have any modern displays.
If you're gonna be including the new Seiko Speedtimer then you should be talking about the new Citizen Bullhead, of which there are currently a couple of variations. Also the original and new Citizen Aqualand.
Teddy, the Casio calculator watch needs to be on your list. That was the envy of school kids bru. Atleast in my generation born 1984.
Some other watches that I think deserve to be in the list are Orient Bambino, G-Shock GA2100, Vostok Amphibia, and Sturmanskie Gagarin.
You know Teddy so badly wanted to put the Junghans Max Bill on this affordable iconic list.
So entertaining, So informative. On the low end, it's hard to ignore a dive watch with such durability, such accuracy, and such style as the lowly $50 Casio Duro/Marlin. They took a very expensive type of watch and made one so that anyone could own one. And not only own it, but use it for its intended purpose. Swatch may have saved the industry but I think Casio is helping sustain it against all the smart watches. My goodness, how many have they sold? Thanks for this vid.
I love my own F-91w
