i always thought the thumb was attached for the safety of the fighter's hand. if the thumb gets caught during training or whatever, that can be serious. but you're right, this feature makes new gloves irritate the bend in my thumb. breaking in new gloves is a pain.

long-time listener , first-time caller * * * * * Got my RETINA detached, and also broke my left thumb TWICE ! By far the Eye Injury was more Traumatic ... Also I was there during the change, and it was the eye injury that brought it about... Yet today the commissions seem to have forgotten how dangerous the THUMB in the EYE can be, when they approve MMA Gloves ? ? ? TWO FACE COMMISSIONS ... Thank You for Your Input ! Paul

How it goes with Corona in Florida? Here in Serbia we have curfew from 5 to 5 at the night and government make threats about 24/7. From everything I know before and everything I know now this is just common virus, nothing new, nothing worst then influenza and similar. I see only governments, bankers and billionaires abusing this nothing

In MMA they don't use it simply because they argue for the sake of grappling. A good comparison would be the Japanese pancrase (I don't know the spelling ) who do MMA but use open hands on strikes not fists since bareknucle can hurt the fists if it hits the forehead resulting to broken fists. My suspicion for now is either they are ignorant or no accidents have happened yet and so they haven't changed the rules (MMA currently/bare knuckle boxing

May you do a video on the crossguard.

I only do these Videos part time and I have some other things I would like to do first! I suggest you reaserch ACHIE MOORE... Archi had over 200 fights and more K.O.S than anyone in the history of Boxing and he was not only the first I seen utilize the croos guard but he was the best ... I have. Nothing but a guess regarding the approval of the gloves. My guess is the enormous following of fans, which leads to ticket sales, which leads to sponsorships. Then the sponsors provide pressure and influence to the governing bodies of the commission. In other words, it generating money.

This kind of scares me now cuz I just got a old school style boxing glove and I'm going to use specifically for the bag and mitts that I ordered specifically didn't have the attached thumb wish I would have watched this first

Robert Liberty * * * * * The best glove is the glove with NO ATTACHED ! Makes a much better fistand is better for the hand. The point is the Commission made mandatory the thumb be attached many years ago ... The reason given was in order too protect the Opponent's eyes ! But today the same commission lets the MMA fighters to get eye poked all day everyday.... The Commision says Nothing SHHHhhhh = Seems hypocritical to me ? Paul D' The Punch Professor

@@PunchProfessor yes, you’re right, it makes no sense. The attached gloves make it harder to create a fist in the glove, I’d argue that it could be a reason why some boxers break their hands as well.

@@gloverdragon6854 you see in boxing gloves, near your knuckles there’s a little bulge protruding out of the gloves. It’s near the thumb to actually prevent it from coming forward and poking people. However the thumb attachment reinforces it from not poking people. But if you cut the thumb attachment the bulge should do the job from preventing eye injuries

Glad to hear that terrible experience is over and you are good. It's really awful what our so called "modern society" has come to, what a shame for us all, for letting others turn us into scared, immature hypochondriacs, to say the least. As for the mma gloves, as a fan claiming absolutely no expertise in fighting, I can immagine that the entire grappling and submission aspect of the sport of mma would technically be inapplicable without the freed fingers. That being said, I strongly believe that there should be much more research into maybe designing a new glove for more protection and mostly the referees shoud enforce much more than they currently do, keeping the closed fist ✊ during all times when fighters are in striking distance. Lorin SU * * * * * 5 Stars for the Educated Comment * People are naturally selfish... I believe hero's have zero selfish motives at the time they become hero's ! I was needing a hero to maybe dial the phone for help, or even a slap on the back and someone saying they was with me... My big issue with all the Boxing Commissions= how they can MANDATE a special glove that Boxers must utilize in order to compete. This was mandated in the 1980's. in order to protect the Opponents Eyes.. Today we have the same commissions turning a BLIND EYE while MMA and UFC poke each other into the dark days of blindness... I do believe we will see on PPV an MMA fighter with his eyeball knocked completely out of his head . Happened to my friend Richard Johnson at the National Golden Glove Championship in the 1970's before they had special gloves had his eye poked out of it's socket & hanging on his cheekbone. Today the same commissions are negligent in protecting the althetes eyes whey its MMA & UFC. Hope you are still well...long work outside in Ohio lately...I busted the bladder in my speed bag.any tricks?btw I just seen that there are different swivels. Mine must be cheap because it's a ball and pin type so accuracy was always very important..no LOCK.im gonna get one like that just to try but I never would have been able to time it with out your help.Thank You.

Docinaplane * * * * * 5 Stars for Watching * There are Boxing Commissions around the U.S.A that are Liable for eye injuries. The Commissions required Boxing to utilize gloves with the Thumb Attached. They did this back in the early 1980's in order, as they said, to protect the opponents eyes. Same Commissions allow MMA fighters to have all their fingers exposed.
