    Preach! When lazy, weak, unskilled people see mastery of technique, power, and position as the result of hard work, they don’t want to accept that hard work had anything to do with it. So they tell themselves “He’s born with it! It’s just genetics!” They look at a guy like Mike Tyson, and say “well he’s just a genetic freak! If I was big and strong and naturally talented like that, I could do the same thing.” While ignoring massive volume of work Tyson put in to get where he was. Jack Dempsey wrote a whole chapter in his book about this subject- how everyone seemed to think he was born with his punching power, and how the more he heard it, the more he started to believe it, until he forced himself to do a comprehensive study on how he himself learned to box in order to more effectively teach others. But all the casual fight fans don’t want to believe in the work though, they want magic instead.

    Exactly my train of thought, as I read the title. Technically we were all born. To be fair, talent and body shape are a thing. But without proper training just wasted. This claim is a lame excuse of people being too lazy to put some effort into it. While we are at it. I wasn't born for long range target peeing. It's just not in my genes. 🤣

    Thank God I'm a visual learner. I'm 6'1 n a half weigh between 147 to 161 (heaviest I've ever been) and I got vicious punching power, thin as a toothpick but can put larger guys in check, if not on their backs and I LEARNED how to do it by watching Hearns, Argullo, Hagler, Joe Louis, Frazier and Sugar Ray Robinson. I debate this all the damn time and yes some men are stronger, but a ko punch is in proper body mechanics feet to hip to shoulder to elbow BANG fist lands and he's hurt dazed and confused where'as in my youth I was known to be scrawny and weak. Do you sit on your punches, are you rotating the hip, are you pushing through or retracting your punch upon contact? These are ?s anyone who doesn't have power need to answer. Thanks Professor 😊 as a late starter in the sport masters like you have helped me greatly improve. Blessings to you and yours 🙏.

    This has always been a subject of great interest to me. I have always loved the choreography of boxing and over the years I figured out how to throw various punches, like various types of hook and where my feet should be and how to invest torque from my upper body into those punches. I learnt to think of these things because I'd read a lot about various fighters in years gone by and found certain treasures in what they said or wrote. Joe Louis would lift from his knees to deliver an uppercut and you can see this in his fights, just fascinating. I also found that as I got bigger and stronger in weightlifting the more of my punching power was diminished. Added musculature I developed interfered with my natural and practised mechanics. Just a thought, thanks for your video.

    ihoptowin * * * * * True brother warrior it's mechanical ... Sometimes terminology throws people off ! Form ofr Technique... How can it not be clear. Has anyone ever been a born home run batter = No. If you lift weights with good form you can lift more. Faster hundred yard dash with bad technique = no But boxing yeh born with it ... I study technique to the max and never have I seen anyone with bad mechanics Punch hard, never ! Everyone who has bad technique can't punch hard. Thank You again Paul

    Very insightful video. You are a student of the sweet science and I agree with you on the point that anybody wanting to learn can improve their punching power. However, the phrase of punchers being born is based on the genetic advantages that they were born with. An untrained and uncoached Usain Bolt is still faster than 90% of the population, because he is genetically blessed. That's why all the heavy weights say the Ernie Shavers was the hardest puncher. They all can punch hard and they all train hard but Shavers just seemed to have genetic gifts that made his punching power unique.

    PunchProfessor My country is Bulgaria, you would’ve never guessed unless maybe if you googled my name because it’s a popular one. I have to say that I’m fascinated by the simple, straight-forward explaination that you sir gave us about the topic of punching power. I have to respectfully add one thing though - while I believe that with the right technique every healthy individual can punch hard, I also think that the cap is set by the specific biological features we all have, such as length of arms, bone density, how and where the muscles are attached to the bones etc. Stay safe!

    Hey Professor, your on the money as usual. Your steroid example is perfect. If a fighter or any athlete takes steroids and dosen't have the proper technique and discipline than the fighter who has the technique without the artificial help will always win. I believe the punchers are born is bs also. Watch George Forman videos of pounding the heavy bag with torque from feet on up thru his hands. He developed it thru proper technique. It can be taught and I appreciate your videos and knowledge. Thanks for what you do, stay safe and keep up the great videos. God bless you brother, Joe Avigliano

    Well... Of course mechanics change everything. But some men never grasp leverage or how to use their whole body no matter how much you try to teach them. The God given ability to generate massive power through leverage and coordination is absolutely genetic. *Not all men are explosive. But all men can learn to knock someone out.

It is not anything in their genes. It is something they discovered in the mechanics of their own body. There is no one who punches powerfully (FOR THEIR WEIGHT) without good mechanics. I have a childhood friend who was a High School Football Star, on his natural talent, (lazy) that was his middle name. Ricardo received a scholarship to the University of Miami and was expected to go to the N.F.L. ! Never happened ! No one's born a master of anything. It must be developed, mostly via thousands and thousands of repetitions. You start as an uncoordinated student, then eventually, you wake up one day and you're startin to look like a fighter. Funny thing is people who cone together to study arts of violence, are usually the most peaceful, and respectful.

Our brain is sitting in our skull and there is NO protection stopping the brain from bouncing off the inside of the skull. I think the K.O. is a defensive maneuver on behalf of the brain? ? ? I think some phycological stuffs can be factored into the equation? I myself was determined not to go unconscious = I think that helps??? The headgear does almost zero for the brain bouncing inside the scull. Exercise for the neck and shoulders, can be useful by helping to absorb the shock of the hit! What about fast-twitch vs slow-twitch muscle fibers? Some people are born extremely athletic and explosive, and others are born very durable. Most people are somewhere in between. Naturally a fast-twitch dominant person who has an aptitude for sprinting fast, jumping high and far will also be able to punch harder than a slow-twitch dominant person.

  • @PunchProfessor

    @PunchProfessor

    4 жыл бұрын

    Carl Lubrin * * * * * Thanks for watching ! The subject is broad* Why? What are you trying to accomplish? How hard is the bag? How often do you plan on doing it ? Is there other ways to get the same results? Are you talking about bare handed ? Are hand raps, part of the picture? My preference is to utilize a bag that IS NOT rock hard* Thin leather gloves on a leather punching bag ( I like how the leather gloves bite on the leather bag) 2nd favorite heavy bag is canvas ! I HAVE NOT used raps in many years, but if I was to hit the heavy bag day in and day out, I might use raps as I have in days gone by. I have many times hit the bag bare handed... Did that mostly cause I was to lazy to go get my bag gloves a few feet away ! Did this answer, help ? Sincerely Paul

    punchers are born, and perfected. Not made. All the great punchers hit hard on their first day - I hit like a truck the first time I ever hit a bag. Never worked hard for it, it's just there. Hip flexibility, muscle fiber types, joint and muscle length/insertions. It's all genetic. Through proper body mechanics, you can harness your true potential, but your potential is set in stone. There's simply no refuting science.
