I did not know until last night that Billy was sexually abused by his father! That sort of knocked me for six! I spent endless nights in an army barrack room listening to Monty Python, Jasper Carrot and this special gentleman from Glasgee! When many young men have committed suicide over issues like this, he imploded into comedy, he is the very finest person you could find and he was born in a slum! We all need to learn from this great human being!

@Canalcoholic
Жыл бұрын
@@meddlingamateur5899 It is NOT scripted! That’s how his style developed. He might go on stage with a first idea in mind but then he goes off on all tangents, and if you are lucky, he might come back to the punch line. He has never done the same show twice.
@meddlingamateur5899

@@Canalcoholic Stop being so naive. You think a stand up comedian walks on stage at a sold out concert hall without having a solid plan of what material they're going to use? And he has repeated loads of material over the years. I'm not knocking his comedy, what he comes up with is golden and his storytelling is impeccable, but to imply he simply walks on stage and hopes that funny stuff happens is just silly.
Nobody NOBODY can tell a story like Billy Connolly!!!!
Superb storyteller. Just one man telling a story yet it vividly forces you to see the scene and all the characters in your imagination.
I vividly remember going to one of Billy's performances in Auckland, N.Z., and him telling this story. My abs were so sore from the continual laughing at his wonderful performance. My love and good wishes to you Billy, a true comedic genius and a pretty damn good actor too.

I saw Billy Connolly in Brisbane and spent the entire evening watching the people in front and to the left of us, a couple and their two adult children. They were mesmerising for the mere fact they didn't laugh, didn't move, didn't do anything for the entirety of the show. Not sure who they thought they'd booked to see but it appeared they hated every minute of it!

A few years ago he did a show "an audience with Billy Connolly". We recorded it on our Dvd player at the time. My husband and I watched it so many times we joined in with all of the jokes. The audience was all tv personalities, pop stars and news announcers etc. They were all completely in stitches. He spotted a face and reacted to that person. The tape finally gave up as it was worn out. My husband died almost twenty years ago but I can still hear him laughing when Billy told the story of the visiting priest and his mother trying to impress by responding to their shouts about pinching the overcoat on the bed, and she says its not an overcoat its a duvet. I can still hear my husband in fits, as we both were born in the 50s when it was pretty usual to have coats over the bed in winter as bedrooms were not heated, and only coal fires downstairs in the main room.
