This man is one of the few people on earth that I will go to my grave being thankful to have experienced in my life. Mr. Connolly is the kind of person, that no matter how bad my life has gotten, or what I have had to go through just to survive when I think about him, I still smile and feel just that much better overall. I have been homeless since losing my house after a life-saving surgery that left me in the hospital for three months... when I got out, I lost everything. I have slept outside in the rain and snow and even through a hurricane. The only thing I have with me is this old cell phone and a battery pack... Billy Connolly is one of the few things I listen to when I am huddled up and trying to not break down. Sounds dramatic, I know, but think about that... The worst time of my life is happening here and now, but some person I have never met, can break through all that and make me feel better for a while. Make me smile when there is nothing to smile about. Make me feel warmth when there is nothing but cold around me. That is amazing and I only wish I could return the favor in some way. The best I can do is say thank you, Billy Connolly. You are a beautiful soul and the world is better for having you in it. I wish you every blessing possible.

I'm going through something very similar mate I know it's hell I'm in survival mode too! Allmost got murdered by my fella then got thrown out by my parents for being with him,add to that a load of health problems. But you're not on your own mate you might be in survival mode now but at least you're alive rember that,it will get better. I was homeless all over Xmas and new year and as a female it wasn't safe. But honestly mate the only way now is up. Where are you from? U.K.? Could maybe give you some practical advice. Here if you need to talk take care

@@irishone9541 Samsung Galaxy S5 that I was gifted a long time ago, 64 GB memory card & whenever I can get to a place to charge my battery pack, I do & then I get to spend the nights at least listening to my favorite things. I use VLC because it allows me to just play the audio, so I can save some battery power with the screen off. You will never know how much even hearing Connolly tell stories the way he does, can make a cold night seem a little less scary. I also listen to Ricky Gervais specials & a lot of other comedy, but Billy Connolly is my go to. I'm sorry if my life situation angered you, it angers me a bit too... I just don't blame anyone else for it so it is incredibly hard to put my hand out. Gofund page? Paypal says it is limited since it is linked to an old acct my ex wife used to use, and I have no address to get debit cards sent to me or any way to actually use any money, which I don't have anyway. My drivers license is outdated so that cuts me off from doing much with banking or online things. I have tried a few things in hopes of being able to at least be in a position to maybe get help. Hasn't worked yet. Currently, I am trying to get my birth certificate so i can get a new Social Security Card (I am in the U.S. so it works different) & then I can get a new ID to use for official things. But that is hard cause it all costs money... I am slowly gathering as much as I can with collecting cans, but I have slowed down a lot due to degenerative arthritis in both knees and hips. It is just hard. Not impossible, but hard. I am tired. I still wear a smile most times and never tell anyone I come across about my situation unless pressed. It isn't their problem nor should it have to be. There are a ton of things I could say about how it is to be where I am, how difficult it is to get out of once you are this lost, how just trying to battle the hopeless, depression & sadness that you close your eyes with & open them to day in and day out. How empty it feels to walk through a store just to get some heat, and smile at people going about their day, buying things and getting into their cars to go home to dinner or whatever they have. over hearing them talk about things I have almost long forgotten the meaning of. To sit in a mcdonalds to charge my battery and occasionally have a dollar to get a drink just to not look awkward sitting there for nothing, and wishing I didn't spend the dollar because every penny helps... and watching folks eat, talk, argue and brag etc... all the while wondering if I can get the battery charged enough to last the whole night because when there is no battery there is silence. Hours and hours of silence and thoughts. That is the worst. Sitting in a hidden spot in the woods, shivering and having to talk to yourself to avoid the silence, but only ever being able to talk about the past and your hopes for a possible future you don't even think will actually come to fruition... Wishing you did things different but knowing you can't change a thing, so you end up giving yourself inspirational speeches for ages, just trying to minimize the sheer ugliness of who you are and what you have become. How it will get better, what steps you are going to take to get where you need to be etc. It is absolutely, heartbreakingly awful. BUT I will tell you something that helps me at my lowest times... I still care about other people and would never want to see them fo through anything bad or painful. I still have days where I will witness something go on around me that I will stop and feel really bad for that person or people and wish I could help. So I am sorry for whatever makes you so upset about me just sharing a very special (to me) connection with hearing someone I grew up with listening to and watching and that has given me joy in my life, and still can even though I am in the darkest of times. I find that amazing, and special and it matters to me. It doesn't have to matter to anyone else, but I really wish you could have that feeling sometimes, cause it means more to me than the house and cars and money I used to have, and it is the one thing that makes me keep getting up and pushing on, even if I am slow, tired and lonely. I hope you never know any of the things I do now, except the thing about Billy Connolly.

Once saw this great man on the street in (I think it was Granton) with his family when I was 10yrs old... I shouted "THAT'S BILLY!" and he winked at me. My cousin told me to not bother him in his personal time but - being an impressionable 10yr old - I could only gape. What a legend he was. Such a comic!

One of the few comedians who actually got better as he got older (Stewart Lee being another). It's because he's a storyteller and storytellers perfect their craft. A lot of comedians, particularly the ones who craft a character or persona seperate from who they really are, just become sad parodies of themselves as time goes on and the novelty wears off.

Its nothing really against Americans, but from an Irish perspective, they seem to only really champion their own people, born in America. To me, Billy has always been my and many other peoples idol and in my opinion, he's the funniest man ever, nobody has ever come close to him, Bill Hicks, Carlin, Prior, all very interesting and great men, even Kinison, but were they funny?, the funniest American comedians are Bill Burr, Joey Diaz, Joe Rogan, Jamie Foxx, Larry David, Don Rickles, Conan. Chris Rock and Seinfeld arent the least bit funny. But anyway, my point is, you should aknowledge a great comedian when you see one, regardless of where they're from, in Ireland, we have the great Tommy Tiernan, but the door is always open for Billy, and he's been here many times and he's a total folk hero here, we know Billy, we know he's a great man and the funniest man alive, we love him to death.

Billy. ❤️. My dad grew up in the Gorbals. His mum was young and was pregnant by a Catholic. His nan took him in as her own. His mum he knew as his sister. The truth come out when his nan mum died. There was an incident. And he was in the jail. When he came out he moved to orsett Essex. Where he met and married a Penzance young lady. They married had a family. We never knew my dad's family. He had left them behind. Many years later. It had destroyed him. Years later my brother. Visits Penzance to see some of my mum's family. He is in a pub and begins drinking with a fella. The fella invites him back for a smoke. They chat look at pictures. It turns out after. Many conversations. That this is my dad's long lost brother. From Glasgow. That he had not seen since. He had gone to jail. At a young age , it turns out that. My dad's brother David. Had left Glasgow after my dad did. He joined the travelling circus as a firebreather and ended up marrying a woman in Penzance ❤️❤️ I was pleased to say we did eventually meet our uncle and cousins ❤️ a lovely story of fate. I love listening to your story's of the days of your childhood. As my dad grew up in a similar era. To you. He's in heaven now. And we never spoke of his childhood. So thank you for still helping me to get to know my dear old dad ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for the laughter love and hope. You have brought to this world ❤️ you are a unique special kind of love ❤️ I have sent you much love healing and blessings this evening ❤️ and will be always grateful forthe love and light you have brought and continue to bring to this world ❤️ much love to you and yours ❤️
