I've bought a bunch of grey market keys (building for myself and others) and none of them have given me any problems. I would always recommend to people that they pay $25 for their OS rather than over $200 (I buy windows 10 professional).

@@TheFirstSSJI think you mean OEM keys, which are basically gonna be tied to your hardware and if you swap 1 part you’d have to put a new one. I saw people saying they were buying them from Amazon for like $1 or $2. Then there is also a yo-ho-ho version(which I admittedly use) which I think is fine since you’re paying Microsoft with your data anyway(telemetry). Or you could run Linux.

The Windows key being tied to MS Account only works for Retail Key not OEM. OEM keys are Single Machine Keys. Retail Keys are much more expensive. At that point Grey-market Keys become much much more sensible.

This is why I'm subbed to sir Daniel right here. There's no bias here, just pure price consciousness and practicality. He doesn't tell you to not get Nvidia either but if working within the budget, gives the best bang for buck choices which right now seems to be mostly AMD parts.

There is Definitely No Bias. HOWEVER the approach is super mathematical. And unfortunately, right now , AMD and Nvidia do not compare apples to apples . So it’s this type of analysis is not accurate. And here is a few examples: 1) Outside of 4k output , 1440p internal resolution (do DlSS/FSR Quality) where they are kind of matched , although DlSS is still superior , on any other resolution OR preset DlSS is much superior. Considering that it’s pretty evident that upscaling is now mandatory in most upcoming games. Because using it gives more fps than turning everything to low , while having minimal visual sacrifices. The fact that DlSS will look much better on many cases than FSR means that you’ll have an inferior visual quality in most games while using AMD. That rests value to the and cards , a lot of it in fact , who wants to have less visual quality and more artifacts?? 2) No secret here , Raytracing performs much better , and unless someone is purely a valorant , cago , LoL etc player , it’s now here on every game that comes out. Most Nvidia cards handle RT with DlSS very well at the resolution that card was designed for. AMD cards however , still take a very hard hit with RT , making them need a more agreesive FSR setting , and as I mentioned in the last point, FSR gets really straight up trash the lower the internal resolution goes. So it ends up still not being worth it to use RT on AMD cards because they visual quality lost due to using let’s say 1440p FSR Balanced , is not worth the illumination quality gained by RT. Meanwhile on an Nvidia GPU the RT hit is lesser , so you might get away with 1440p DlSS Quality , which will look very decent and worth it for activating RT. That again , lessens AM: gpus value , and Increases Nvidia’s There is also Ray Reconstruction , which massively increases visual quality with ray tracing . Making , once again , the visual presentation on a Raytraced game , far better looking on an Nvidia GPU than on an AMD GPU. There is also frame generation. AMD just launched FSR 3 , which is still very quirky , with bad input lag many times , the native implementation kind of works , with weird things like needing to set settings so that when using FSR 3 you hit the monitors max refresh rate with Vsync enabled or else you get terrible screen tearing and input lag. So not comparable to just activating frame gen at any current fps you are getting an simply enjoy it. Not to mention it is only implemented in 2 games right now. And ones forspoken , probably the second sorts game of the year after Gollum. The other one is okey but not popular either , immortals… Frame gen is implemented on most of all the key games where you might want it/ need it. Once again adding more value. Not to mention it’s a technology that’s been around for a year and that Nvidia has been working in for longer , hence more mature and hence probably going to constantly be updates and improvements before the just launched and very green AMD’s response. Just like it was with DlSS and FSR , Nvidia had it first and has been constantly ahead. And then to mention some minor things: -Power consumption is lower on Nvidia GPUs - Even though things have evened a lot , Nvidia still has better and more stable drivers , I have a pc components store, not only do I sell both brands , I have 4 computers at home and one has a 7800XT. It’s a good GPU, but it definitely has given me more driver related weird stuff than the Nvidia’s GPUs. -Better resell value. Casuals don’t buy AMD because they don’t take the time to see detailed comparison benchmarks , so they just buy the famous brand. So it’s easier to sell your Nvidia GPU at a decent price second hand to a casual , than it would be to sell and equally expensive AMD one. All this little things aren’t accounted for when merely comparing FPS in games

Seems like you'll be set for more than 4 years if you don't plan on using it for much more than 1440p gaming, with how demanding newer games are, I don't see 4k being standard any time soon

I will say that the PSU is really the one thing that you're better off spending a little more for more wattage. It's the one part of your computer that you will likely be able to reuse down the road when you upgrade.

And I definitely wouldn't re-use a power supply from a very old build like that GTX 980. That PSU is at least 8 years old, and if it fails, it could take other components with it. You really don't want to skimp on the one component that directly affects all the other ones. $100 MSRP is the sweet spot for PSUs, and you can often find a really good deal. I bought a new Corsair RM650 for about $60 last year, one of the best deals in my life.

It depends. I'd say the quality of PS is more important than the wattage. I bought 500W PS some time ago, while I was using 3060 and R5 2600. Later I upgraded to 4070 Ti and R5 5600. I was not sure my PS could function properly with new components. But after I tested the new GPU and found out that it can be undervolted pretty heavily without any meaningful loss in performance, I realized it is fine. Undervolted 4070 Ti consumes the same 150W-180W, as undervolted 3060, while being ~2.2x faster.

It doesn't make sense to me. Running about 300w pow. cons. components on 750w power supply only because it can be needed in next 7 years!? Nonsense. As we can see, newer gpus demanding less power from gen to gen. From my experience of 17 years in business, you should buy some okayish branded power supply for your needs at the moment. For the future upgrades it is better to buy new one. PC case is not something anyone should think about. Cheap one, even used, with ok air flow will do the job. Same goes for cpu cooler, ryzen stock will do the job easily. All in all, you can save some money without sacrificing anything...

This was maybe the best video about pc components i ever watched. subscribed and excited for more content.

Hey Daniel, great video I can tell you are a teacher. One thing to add to you video. At the start of a build I always ask myself at what resolution I want to game, that pretty much determines the build.

The "upgradeable" issue is sometimes a red herring if you're not upgrading very often. In 4 years, you're probably just going to move to a new platform imo. In regards to memory, be very careful about Oloy and other lesser known companies. If you look at the customer reviews of folks who needed support, there are cases where the manufacturer is impossible to contact to get warranty support.

You’re trying to save what amounts to like 30 cents a day for like a 20+% performance dip, which if you use your computer more than 3 hours a day isn’t worth it

Strong disagree that "4 years" is the cutoff. DDR4 lasted a decade, and DDR5 isn't even a clear upgrade. By getting DDR5, you can easily keep that RAM for a decade or more. In 2014, good DDR4 RAM was 16GB and 10ns. Good RAM in 2023 is 16GB and 10ns. Not much has changed. Main point is, getting DDR4 RAM means you have to throw it out when you upgrade since future systems will definitely be DDR5. But, DDR5 RAM means you get to keep it 10+ years into the future. If DDR5 RAM saves you $60 in your next build, you get the upgrade to AM5 for free over AM4. Additionally, AM4 lasted 7 years, and it's usually good to get CPUs that are 1-2 gens old, so AM4 is a usable socket for 9 years. If AM5 matches AM4, by getting AM5, you can upgrade your CPU without replacing your motherboard over the next 9 years. That's a 50/50, but using the DDR5 discussion the upgrade to AM5 is for free.

Excellent video, I really liked the idea at the end of making other videos with different system prices points, but as the main purpose is games I think it would be better to make some videos separating the minimum and maximum recommended configs for 1080p, 1440p and 2160p. For example if we going to build a computer designed for 1440p what is the minimum configuration we can consider and what would be the maximum (I think it would be easy to think of the minimum and maximum as probably only the gpu would be changed)

Thanks for the excellent and very informative video! I spent the last 10 days to learn about pc parts and try to figure out how to build a pc, i barely had a clue before. After a lot of youtube, reddit and thinking i concluded to go for 1440p with the future proof am5 socket (probably 7700x) and get the rtx 4070. I am proud to have that choice validated by you in this video. Originally i wanted to buy a 7800xt to save some money but i chose to maybe overpay a little for having more security. As a newbie, I cannot bear the thought of having to battle with driver issues, crashes, double monitor problems etc. Especially not when i spend about 1600€ for my first pc. (Europe prices...). I wanted one for many years and now i finally have the budget. 😍 Again, great channel and all the best!

I think you will be quite happy with the 4070. I spent a bit more and got a 4070Ti but the card has been great and having access to DLSS and frame generation has been amazing. Along with nivida's ability to handle ray tracing.

Great video so insightful, full of great tips and underlining the key ideas about PC-building for new gamers. Thank you! Personally, this video made me rethink how i used to build my pc in the past, and i have a few questions about other topic relating PC-building: 1. How important your monitor or rather target resolution is? Because: a) on 4k you will be picking different CPU from a different chart, I believe something like 13600k will have a mutch better value than 7800x3d (even tho im not an Intel fan really), and i havent heard about anyone recommending lowering resolution to other than native for your monitor, rather lowering quality filters or implementing any scaling tech to improve frame rate, so personally I always begin with "what my target res is" alongside budget and target games and FPS ofc. b) And that also impacts GPU decision-making, for me at least, I would never consider 12GB 4070 for 4K cuz that sounds like an artificially implemented bottleneck, because of something that cheap to add more as vRAM, 2. Are 6 cores still enough for PC gaming, because its been 3 long years when PS5/XBOXoneX came out. Besides, AMD is about to drop their new Ryzen 8k series with C-cores design, so even low end will have much more cores than current gen, from both Intel and AMD. Also Ryzen 7000 will be cheaper/discounted as an old gen next month than it is now. 3. Finally, how important is buying a new GPU, that is something I have never done. It has always been used previous gen GPU because for me. Thats the most expensive part, but I get it requires a separate buyers guide dedicated to this topic. Anyways, thank you again.

The p12 PSTs are also only a bit more depending where you live and can daisy chain so you don’t need to spend money on a fan hub if you don’t have enough fan connectors on your motherboard

@@sparklingion It can't be understated how much easier daisy chaining fans and having no RGB makes a build easier to put together. I have 6 rgb fans that all plug independently into a hub and all the argb cables so I have to have 2 hubs and an aio with RGB and one thing I can guarantee is my next build will have fans that connect magnetically or the build simply will not have any rgb. I'm not dealing with all that again.

I have that XFX card and it is quite long. Was able to get it to fit in a Fractal Define 7 compact. Had to check several times it would fit with the fans installed. Also looking at a small form factor build and I'm right around $1400. Sticking with Ryzen 5000 series and had to go with a RX 7800 card since the other cards I've been looking aren't going to fit or aren't going to give the performance/features I want.

This is what I’m talking about hopefully some Black Friday deals will make this affordable for me!!

asrock stepped up their game on the rs pro x670e for only 300. They def fixed the bios from their older boards. My 7800x3d runs well and has plenty of m.2 slots and gen 5 m.2/gpu option for future upgrades.

I have just finished upgrading my build and went with a similar setup: R7 5800X3D, 4x8gb ddr4 and RX 6800. I opted for the 5800X3D over the AM5 options as I already had a B450 board that was used with a 3600X and with a 5600. At this price point the RX 6800 is unbeatable if you don't mind the worse RT performance vs Nvidia cards

How is the difference between the 3600x and the 5800X3D? I'm looking to do the same upgrade. Im in Canada where prices are crazy and the 6800 was over my budget so I went for a used 12gb rtx 3060 and its so good. I mostly play 1440p high/ultra with dlss.

Hoihoi Daniel, beautiful video!;)) Whoever will ask me, I will just link to this one. As a fellow experienced PC builder, doing it for 17 years now, i have enjoyed watching this, and see how we experienced people differ from enthusiastic ones. The only 3 things that I would have mentioned, you've addressed one of them, to leave the 3rd party cooler out, which i would haven't even gone for. Right now it's no point having one, budget can be used better in theory... 2nd is the RAM: 16GB is plenty for this build as the CPU will limit the crazy use cases that would require the 32GB+ RAM and could save another $30-40... So $65 could have been shaved off of the build and put it towards something else... Probably better GPU more storage etc... 3rd: 8GB of VRAM is out of the question. 12GB+ is the minimum. Just by principle. We vote with our wallets, don't give manufacturers money for useless/almost useless expensive products... I would have just mentioned this point discussing your viewer's GPU choice... Again, great video, good build, and curious, if the $65 could have gone towards a better GPU. Just an idea, if its even possible to make it work: just put a magical puff cloud under you when you're moving yourself around pointing out stuff would be awesome! Like Genie from Aladdin.;)) Or the Magic Carpet...;)) Keep up the good work and have a happy Life!;))

I disagree about RAM, but it depends on whether you're multi-tasking. Some games are already limited by 16 GB even if you don't have anything in the background, but if you keep even one browser open, it changes a lot. You could buy one stick and upgrade to two sticks later, but you might not be able to find the same model and you could have compatibility issues.

@@THU31 Haha, my recent exposure to demanding games have been pretty low as newer AAA titles are not to my taste - polite way to say, that I find them utter trash -, and the indi games are not that demanding. The ones I am playing. Could you please tell me some RAM hog games, so I can test it myself? About multitasking: the choice of CPU indicates how much the person wants multitasking. In this case, not much. RAM compatibility can be an issue later on, yes. For me, personally, that's a looow priority.

I would also like to say that from what I've seen 32GB and 16GB (DDR5) seem to be close in price that it is probably better to just get the 32GB, although I do agree that 16GB is plenty for most use cases and gaming. (I also don't have a lot of triple AAA titles, so I can't test it lol) Buying cheaper ram and using a stock cooler with the 7600 would definitely be something I'd do for a better GPU, but I don't think everyone would do this.

@@jooshiii In this video there was a big difference between 16 v 32 Gigs hence I've mentioned it, but if it's at same price, then for sure go for 32. And everyone has their own preferences which require different builds. And sometimes people will go with choices that make no sense specs wise, but they are prettier than the sensible choice... 7600 may not be for everyone, that's fair enough, just don't come back and complain to me.;)) that's what I would tell them, when they choose something for non-objective reasons.;))

I would also argue in competition with the 4070 there is also the 7800xt with more vram and performance for a similar and in many cases slightly cheaper price, just a thought if dlss doesn’t matter much! My fiancé has one and has ran great this far for her!

The 7800xt doesn't really offer more performance. It's very game specific between the two and the 4070 is a lot more power efficient. Of course a lot of people will say, that you can undervolt 7800xt down to the 200w a 4070 offers, but then again you can do the same thing with the 4070 and get it to 160w. Over here with crazy electricity pricing i would take the 4070 over the 7800xt any day, but then again, that's the only nvidia card i would seriously consider buying right now.

If you’re using your pc for anything besides gaming that uses a gpu then get nvidia as it’s real world performance for comparable chips is better with better support. If it’s gaming only then it’s like a $20-30 dollar savings (

i built a decent ass pc for around 500$ with a rtx 3060ti for 220$ and a ryzen 5600x for 130$, got a deskmini x300 for about 160$, thats not bad fr, i paired it with a 165hz 1080p ONN monitor which i bought 2yrs ago for 120$, i would say this is probably the best pc setup for 500$ + its portable asf cuz its a deskmini pc and it got hella usb ports, only limitation is it is am4 and its a older pcie bus but it only impacts fps 2-5%

@@michaelmaruszewski5323 thats a really decent setup, and i think alot of games still play 60-120fps (depending on the scenario) all low settings too, especially seince all computer parts where stupid high in demand at the time, and i agree 2025 is a good year to consider upgrading if not the next, honestly dont know how good the technology is gonna get with fsr 3 having frame gen support and improving fps by alot on a wide variety of gpus

You are usually not just in GPU or CPU limit, you are in both in different places. Especially if you consider the 0,1% and 1% lows, that decide if your game runs fluid all the time.

The problem overall, is that GPUs are costing more than CPUs. Therefore, an upgrade in CPU will almost always cost less if just moving from gen to gen in either product. Good points about the motherboard platform, definitely a bottleneck for upgrades. Thanks for bringing this to us!

You may lose out on generational upgrades with lga 1700 but you can still go from a 13600k to a 14900k. Also You get equal too performance in games to ryzen but much much better in productivity workloads and that is more value per dollar. Your PC will do task quicker and personally I have had less issues with intel even though I own 2 Ryzen based PC and one with Intel. Been such a good experience with intel not a single hiccup.

I think many casual gamers when they try to build they own PC they got confused with what they actually want from it.. but as soon as you understand where you will focus on your build it will be pretty much clear what to buy.

Something else to keep in mind as well is tax / shipping costs - so add an additional around 7-12% atleast in US for tax... so a $1200 build can become $1320 or more.

i build my first gaming pc 2019 for approx 1700 K (monitor and peripherals included, just the pc was about 1.1 K), I upgraded parts throughout the years. seeing that example pc there for approx the same price and comparing it with my build, which in terms of performance is comparable, I am content right now where I sit... I am still on AM4 and want to get some more mileage out of it until I build completely new in a few years from now. by then, either the new systems have gone down significantly in price presumably or the new mid range or entry level stuff will still vastly outpace my old build anyway.

I just built it with the upgraded CPU and the upgraded graphics card and hopefully everything comes Friday

The 6700/6750 XT offers probably the best value per dollar in gaming at the moment, especially if you find it discounted or open box, in part because for the overwhelming majority of people with less powerful PSUs (perhaps because they built during COVID and pickings were slims), you won't need to upgrade it: a 550 or so watt PSU will do it--especially if using one of the more power efficient Ryzens--and if you're worried, you can even undervolt slightly. It is 85% the performance of the 6800 yet can be found for $300 or less easily.

I would always pick the Super Flower Leadex Gold III for the Power Supply because that has FDB fans which is way better than the one on the Corsair RM750e

That 850w super flower leadex gold iii is as good a psu is there is on the market but probably a lot of people don't buy it because they don't know super flower makes a lot of other brands psus and then said brands slap their names on them.

9:40 im using the pearless assasin on my 7800x3d, honestly amazing, much better than my old watercooler.

I would have gone with 7500f stock cooler and a cheaper mATX b620 mobo to squeeze in that 520 usd 4070. Also that 70 usd cheapest ram was very good for the price to performance.

sitting here waiting for june to hurry up and get here for basicly all new stuff that "so called aint coming but clearly is"

basically my pc with a 6700 xt and it works amazing in all games i have. My monitor is a older smart tv 32inch1080 p 60 herz TV that i bought for 250 bucks and the pc is good enough to max that out every time. I also have a smaller drawing tablet hooked up that i use as secondary monitor for discord, music playlists and such. My motherboard is a bit more pricey, i wanted one with 6 SSD slots so i went with the z690 asrock steel legend. I personally like AMD a lot, if the performance uplift was high enough, i would upgrade to a 7800xt from asrock to match my motherboard but they are sold out and not worth the marginal uplift imo. I also noticed, you can leave a ton of performance on the table if you go for a fancy fishtank pc case, most of them dont come with fans. For example the NV7 from Phanteks, case and vents alone can go up to 600 bucks.

You make form time to time videos about building budget pcs. How about building a high end one with a reasonable price (not insane XD)?

I bought a 6700XT and a Ryzen 5 7500F and I'm pretty happy with this combination

I'm not convinced about the motherboard, you really want to check the ports it supports. Are multiple Ethernet ports necessary for you? Do you prefer optical audio output? Is there any reason to choose a micro ATX form factor? The actual end user has to address these kind of questions before the purchase.

Completely agreed. I had to upgrade my psu twice because I didn't think about potentially upgrading parts in the future.

I just ordered a new "ZOTAC RTX 4090 AMP Extreme AIRO" for around $1450 U.S. (Price went up by $200 a day after I ordered it.) Can't wait for it to arrive!

Amazing build for new parts under 1000 usd. If you have a budget buy a used 3090 it is 550 usd here in my country. For dlss and rt it is very good and future proof. Thermalright pearless assssin 120 and phantom spirit 120 are great coolers. Killing the market lol. But if you can buy 6800 for 380 usd as new that is an amazing price

go with a 3060 12gb and call it a day. will save you some money, i upgraded my 1660ti for the 3060 just because i know that 6gb of ram soon will be a thing of the past and i dont even play AAA games like most ppl do. do whats best for you but also if you want to avoid the headache , go buy a prebuilt. mine is a lenovo prebuilt and so far it has been rock solid. personally i avoid the hassle to build my own computer though i understand why some people love to do it

@@polarvortex6601 My concern with going a 3060 is, that i want this computer to last for around 8 years , and i am a little afraid that the xx60 models of the gpus is not as "future safe". Thats why im looking for xx70 or xx80 . And im not necessarily building my own pc, im mostly looking for used full build computers.

@@MeAndersen With the newfound emphasis on AI and upscaling, its a tough time to hope for 8 years. I think something like the 6800 will actually be a better bet with 16 gb of vram and AMD being slightly more generous with putting upscaling features on older cards. If you're looking for used PCs though, you're at the mercy of what you find. A used 3080/ti would be a good option if you can find one.

the super variants of ada are just around the corner and will be a decent uplifte over the 4070ti and 4080 for the same price

playing Mirage with a 4080 and I was only getting around 40fps and now I’m getting 130fps! I knew there were driver issues with the new nvidia card with new games since the fps were terrible for a 4080, and now finally where they should be!

Please do a part list for good , better, best desktop for

Btw Thermalright Phantom Spirit is the same price as Peerless Assassin but performs suprisingly better.
