G305 was my go to but I kept buying it over and over, and I realized I had to find a similiar mouse without spending too much. The razer mini viper was the closest to it. Its wired but the shape was perfect, especially when putting sticky smooth texture pack that comes with it and put on the side. But yeah no more spending 5 mouses for a g305.

I had the same issue and got good results using a UGREEN USB 3.0 Switch Selector. Since you're possibly running cables to the gaming PC anyway, you'll just need a USB 3.0 male to male 20 to 25 ft long. You can use any mouse wired, wireless, Bluetooth any mouse and easy access to select which PC

Its time to learn soldering and replace the switch yourself. The switch cost 1-3$ a piece and you can get the one with high durability (20M clicks). Decent soldering station cost around the same price as your mouse and it can also be use to do another projects. If you haven't do any soldering, maybe it'll take you 30-60 minutes the first time. But if you know what you are doing, it'll take around 10 minutes to replace a switch. Search for some tutorials online, you should find plenty. In the end it comes back to you, how you want to solve the double click problem. For me I prefer changing the switch myself because I like to tinker with stuff.

It could be the plastic plunger that clicks the switch twice. The switch on corsair mice and probably other mice for instance makes a dent in the plastic plunger, about 0.5-0.25mm and essentially makes two off-center points that can make contact with the switch, causing double-clicking. Pasting a thin layer of double sided tape or so can fill the gap, permanently fixing the issue possibly. People often assume its the switch when its just the plastic that wears after use. Hope this helps.

They used to use much better switches on their older hardware, newer stuff doesn't last even half as long as stuff they made from the early to mid 2000s. Maybe it's not so much planned obsolescence as it's just cheaping out on parts. Anyways, you can buy better quality switches and replace them for something better. If it hadn't proprietary firmware, you could probably just bump up the debounce timer a bit and the same old switches would still work fine for a bit longer, which is another reason I'm not planning on buying proprietary input devices anymore. I used to love Logitech, but they keep designing their products to last shorter and shorter and find new ways to make it turn to e-waste after a while, I'm really disappointed.

Every company has double clicking issues unless the switches are optical. You can't expect parts not to wear down but he has to be really unlucky for them to fuck up so often. I've mained the g305 for 3-5 years and it doesn't double clicking. Now it's just sitting in case my main mouse ever breaks. The scroll was fucked for a while as it would sometimes scroll the opposite direction but then it randomly fixed itself. For a mouse that cost 50 euro and lasted like 5 years, that's a bargain. Companies only give you 2 years of warranty and razer mice and superlights have been breaking like flies sometimes even before the warranty ends.

  • @gcolombelli

    @gcolombelli

    27 күн бұрын

@@RestTarRr nah, it's not bad luck, just buying new stuff, they used to put switches rated for over 50 million clicks, nowadays it's common to find switches rated for just 10 million or 20 if you're lucky. Most new hardware is made to last for two or three years tops and be thrown away after that. You can still buy better switches, replace them and it should last 8~10 years, it's just that almost no company puts the higher quality stuff in their hardware anymore. Another aspect where they cheap out in how they only use decent switches for the left and right buttons and everything else uses a crappy, loud and super hard to press "tactile switch" instead of the traditional microswitch.

Without fail, all of them developed issues after a year or so, and the mice always start double clicking as soon as the warranty expires. Since then I've tried both Steelseries and Razer mice and they have both been rock solid. I don't think it's a good idea to keep giving money to a company with such low quality standards for such a primary component of their products, not to mention it creates unnecessary e-waste. You are probably better off finding another mouse that fits your needs from another brand that doesn't die every few months.

the first 15 secs of the video sums up the main reason why pretty much everyone, including me, still buying Logitech Gaming Mouse (not all of them are good thou just some) eventhou they wear out easily (double click). I've tried other popular brand like razer, but the shape and the button placements just doesn't feel right. But since I realized that Logitech gaming mouse doesn't last long (not just a random bad batch), I started using using 2 mouse. 1 Logitech gaming mouse G502x and a different brand (chinese knockoff) that has the same exact shape and the same buttons placement as G502 but cost 3-4 times less, what I do is I use the logitech mouse one for only gaming, and the chinese knockoff one for non-gaming (browsing, video edting, etc). This way I don't wear out my logitech gaming mouse by doing non gaming activity and spend less money by not replacing it so often. So what's the difference between the chinese one and logitech, the chinese one is practically shaped the same and the buttons placement are also the same? The build quality is different, the laser is lower quality, the button is not as comfortable to press as the logitech one, but for normal browsing and non gaming activity it's good enough and it's shaped the same so it doesn't get awkward when switching between mouse

For me, this is the G502. I have one on four different PCs, and I have three in the box. Why? The G502 is the best mouse I've ever used; nothing else comes close. But it is susceptible to pet hair getting in the scroll wheel. When it does, scrolling becomes inconsistent. It is possible to take the mouse apart and clean it, but it is tricky and can lead to some damage. So when there's a good sale, I buy one or two to keep around. When one gets "hairy," I set it aside to be repaired later. Not a replacement for the G305 -- a wired mouse with multiple programmable buttons.

I replaced them with the huano blue pink dots and it became a really expensive feeling mouse. The only really stupid thing about it is that the cable for the switch modules are glued to the chassis, meaning you might have to resolder a jumper to it and also that the screws are hidden begind the skates. However, logitech will send you new skates for free if you talk to their customer service. I can recommend compressed air and contact cleaner... (you know those cans with a thin straw spray nozzle)... Remove dust stuck underneath the button with compressed air, and if dust and grime has found itself into the mechanical parts of the switch, just blast it with contact cleaner. This should fix the double clicking issue. My theory is that the scroll wheel can force dust into the area underneath the mouse button, and once it gets inside the "switch" you get an unstable connection. This has happened to me twice over the years and it's a common issue with mice. With this being said, I am volunteering for a local repair group in my city. During every meetup we help people fix tons of issues with contact cleaner alone. You'd be amazed of how many perfectly good products people would throw away, when in reality they just need a proper deep clean. (like failing buttons, faulty headphone jacks, general bad circuit or cable connections). The fixes are often SO simple it makes me sad to think about how much electronic waste we create unnecessarily create because we lack basic repair skills.

@@farmeunitThe issue is that it isn't obvious what is reliable or long-lasting. In reality you won't know if it is a good product until you have had it for 5+ years. Mechanical buttons has a fixed lifespan and needs replacing, and they are also very prone to get weak if dirt and stuff gets into the mechanical part. I mean, we repaired a really good 20 year old Denon all-in-one, Hi-Fi stereo with contact cleaner. The only thing that was "broken" was an unresponsive eject button for the CD-Player. We supervised the owner to take the front panel apart and clean the contact area of the button. It worked flawlessly after that. Ultimately, no matter the quality of a product. Being able to do light repair is an essential life skill. Because even great products will fail.

I bought on the moment I saw it appeared on online shops, it was so ahead of the supposed release schedule (like a week early) that Logitech didn't even show that they have it on their website for my country. At that time I was eyeing for any affordable mouse that came with the same sensor family and it was advertised that it had the same wireless tech that their flagship was using, all other mice that came with the sensor (some are even wired) costs 2x to 3x the price of my G304 that I knew I had to take the gamble (as at the time G305 only launched like 3 months prior in NA and there was no info on G304, still don't know why it was named differently but I wanted to avoid the G302 vs G303 situation).

I used to just buy a new one once the double click got bad enough, but since the newest i bought, i found out just replacing the switch itself is way cheaper and will last longer if you buy good switch. So for the LMB, i asked my friend who had done it before, and for the RMB, i tried it myself (never soldered before). Now, the LMB has lasted 2 years of everyday almost 12 hours of use. So, consider replacing the switch itself to save a lot of money. There's some good youtube tutorial of how to do it!

I have the wired G Pro which is essentially a wired version of this and yeah I like it enough I bought spares too. The shape is perfect for FPS games and the scroll wheel lacking side scrolling or free-wheeling is actually a huge plus because it means middle clicking it feels so much better (and works more reliably) than it does with the usual scroll/tilt wheel mechanism logitech uses (having taken a few of those apart it's not surprising that they develop issues and feel a bit janky in general). I wonder if your problems with the buttons might be solved by spraying isopropyl into the switch, might be worth a try (I've also heard of people RMAing logitech mice for this exact issue and apparently logitech customers service is quite good, so there's that option too).

They doubled as a remote control, with buttons for media playback such as play/pause, rewind/fast-forward, volume, and two custom thumb buttons. They were perfect for videos and music, but they've been discontinued and new old stock goes for like $200. Anyway, they had the same problem as the G305 with the main buttons developing that double-click issue. And of course, Logitech's never going to fix a problem that results in people buying more of their mice.

I've had the left click fail before on other mice, and probably bought this for $50. Didn't know about the price drops to $30, so good to know. Regarding the battery consumption, I use Powerowl 2800 mAh rechargeable batteries, which store more energy than traditional AA batteries. Whenever they eventually do die, I just swap in another freshly charged one. I can't remember the last time I had to replace the battery, so that does support your long battery life experience. I also have a keyboard that charges w/ micro usb. Maybe it's time to upgrade to one w/ usb c. A AA battery powered one would work for me as well, b/c I could just use more rechargeable batteries.

Hey! The soldering job can be a bit tricky, but as long as you have a soldering iron, some solder, cheap manual solder pump, and a couple of your preferred switches (4 if you wanna switch the side buttons), it is very possible to improve the experience of this mouse by a lot. I personally have Kailh Silent switches, since my mouse clicking drives my wife insane, after that we never had issues with the sound and I never had issues with the double click. Also I had experience with doing this mod with other mice, and G305 is much more beginner friendly in terms of ease of repairs.

If somebody has replaced the switches: can you get higher quality microswitches than the original? I think this uses basic Omron switches and those seem to be prone to failure because of dust getting into the switch.

  • @StefanHolmes

I’ve bought these. 3 so far because one for me, one for my partner and one for travel / work. They are definitely repairable! I bought some Kailh Red switches and replaced the stock Logi switches when they started to fail. Been running perfectly now for 3X longer than the original lasted. They also have a nicer feel to them. The only other thing is I would recommend putting your hands on a Logitech Superlight (if you go for the V2, it has USBC charging instead of micro). It's a "gaming" mouse, but it has a nice profile like the G305. It's a lot, lot nicer to use. I didn't think it would be too much different but the light weight really makes it more comfortable for periods of extended use. It has an "eco" mode to stretch battery life, but it's a built-in Li-ion battery. Charging is really fast though and you can use it like a wired mouse for the less than an hour it needs to charge. I'm likely going to upgrade the battery for a larger one. It will add a small amount of weight but still nowehere near half the weight of a G305.

Have you tried any of the other colors? Two of my friends have the more popular black one and they had to replace them through warranty. My theory is that if its more wanted/mass produced theres more chances for faulty components to sneak into one. Another friend has the lilac and I have a white one thats been going strong for ~3 years now. Not an actual scientific test, but might be worth a check. Also for battery powered good connection mice, I've been using a M650L as a beater for laptop and tv pc and it's been really nice, especially the quiet clicks. The M720's been pretty good too, but the hand-feel isnt as nice. The m650 might be a fun try if you dont care about gaming latency etc. Also in terms of more expensive mice, I think it gets tougher at the higher price point since every manufacturer drops the AA battery design. I feel llike I have to charge the GPX and GP and mxmaster 3 just so often (a month WITH rotated use). The g305 really is tough to beat honestly in versatility

I have two very similar wired models, both G203. I liked this model a lot, and bought a second one when it was cheap because I figured it would be good to have a replacement when the first one eventually fails... Unfortunately, the first one only lasted about two or three years before the buttons started malfunctioning. I would click and often nothing would happen, or I'd try to hold down the mouse button and it would be very inconsistent. I guess two or three years isn't horrible for a mouse which worked very well and didn't completely die yet, but I was really hoping that it would last a lot longer than that. My previous mouse lasted around 9 years, and was very inexpensive, and the only thing which actually failed on it was the mouse-wheel scrolling, which for me makes it still a worthwhile backup mouse. My first Logitech mouse was a three button ball-mouse that used a serial port, and it went strong for around 15 years and never died. I think I still have it in a box somewhere.

i've never had a doubleclick issue despite using these for years. the issue i do always have right out of the box is that the right click is waaay to sensitive and easy to trigger if you just rest your middle finger on it. i end up having to fold a little piece of tape and stick it under the housing to make it harder to press down.

My previous mice Logitech G Pro X developed double click after about 2.5 years, now I'm running G G502 X LIGHTSPEED (it have new type of switch with should prevent double click in the future) with is great mice, single charge last me about 5 weeks. For the keyboard I also have 915 TKL nearly 3 years and having no issue with it, if I have RGB off then i need to charge it about every 2 months with is great.

Yup have a 603 and tempted to buy another 2 to keep on the shelf. My only fail so far was the older model's scroll dying, but that was after years of all day every day use. Totally recommend the 603 to anyone wanting a robust dual battery gaming mouse that has absurd battery life and comfortable to use all day every day for years.

Repaired mine with TTC 80M gold switches. You can get some online with the board included, no need to solder. Just remove the old ones and plug in the new.

I have a similar set up with the same mice, highly recommend getting a usb extender + usb hub to have a lot more freedom with product choice and no latency

almost the same here. 2 G602 mice, a G502 lightspeed and a G502X and a bag of glide pads and switches to solder onto them. They always get the double click problem after a couple years.

Here in The Netherlands it has 2 years of warranty. I have a G604 and they replaced mine once, already. The second one didn't die yet, but I might buy another because they honored their warranty without complications and the mouse serves me well. I wish I could get a new Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 from MS even though the key's paint fades away shortly after you start using it, I can't find anything suitable to replace it with.

Having the same issue with the same mouse. Would you do a video about repairing the mouse?

I have the same experience with different Logitech mice, in the old days this didn't happen to the same degree. Planned obsolescence?

Using the G403 as we speak. Love the shape of it.

One of the alternatives is razer basilisk x hyperspeed that I'm using. It does have worse battery life and connection issues from time to time when waking from sleep (never in use though), but it's an ergo shaped mouse which to me immediately puts it above the G305. All in all, just replace the switches with higher quality ones and use rechargeable batteries and you're good to go.

Back in the day for Quake/Q3 the Microsoft WMO was like that. They were cheap as heck and quality control on them wasn't great, but when you got a good one it was very nice. And worth stocking up on.

Hey Daniel! If you have a bunch of G305s, it might be worth it to invest in rechargeable AA batteries. I got a pack of 8 from amazon and they get cycled through my controllers and other devices as well. I also much enjoy the G303 Shroud Edition and it's last 2.5 years now with no double clicking. It's a bit of a sharper G305, but I like how it kinda locks in your hand.

Ever considered going with the Logitech Powerplay mat with the G Pro Superlight 2 or G502X? You can probably plug the powerplay mat into the monitor next to the mouse and never have to worry about charging as well as having all the comforts you're used to with the Logitech Wireless tech

I have 2 305's and have used my first for a few years now and the second for maybe 1.5. never had any issues with them. Also picked em up for a $30 deal on Amazon

I think it is a Logitech thing, every Logitech mouse I have tried develops this issue. It doesn't matter how much or how little I spend. My personal favorite is the G502 because it fits my hand well but I really don't like g-hub software (it sometimes resets to defaults after an update) and have thought about switching to Corsair (I recently purchased Corsair headphones and really like the iCue software). Keep up the great content Daniel!

may be due to some light abuse, but my scroll wheel would go different directions, and my top side mouse button stopped working ON TOP of double clicks so. hopefully G502 is nice

I like G300s. Yes it’s wired but the buttons are still flawless after 5+ years, fits my hand and I need the 4 side buttons it has on the top side.

I honestly totally understand it since i also have like 3 Logitech 305 xD. I upgrade to a Logitech G303 and yes it is a bit bigger and weird to hold at first but i need to charge it like what 2-4 times a year? I didnt charge it yet this year and im playing alot of games where you kinda move the mouse alot so yeah maybe that could be an option for you. But keep in mind it is a bit bigger and a bit weird to get used to in the beginning.
