That's bias. But if he went out there and act like a wise man and condemning something that he actually encouraged last time? That's a hypocrite.

  • @eddygiron2390

    @eddygiron2390

+big dawg 69 It's more than just been biased. We're talking about, FOR EXAMPLE, that my father tells me not to bully any kids at school when I was 17, but he was known around the neighbourhood for bullying some grownup men. It applies with Popovich; he "allowed" if not encourage Bowen to defend as he was accustomed to do but when Zaza went for Kawhi, he looked at it or analyzed it as same or even worse situation than Bowen's; that whole reaction of his, it's even worse than hypocritical, it's borderline cynical because he knew how Bowen defended and he knew he encouraged it; Kerr never encouraged Zaza, at least not openly like Popovich did it. So Popovich is telling the NBA to stop this kind of lame actions when he was one of those who allowed such within his own players, borderline cynical. It might not be instant karma, but he certainly felt the anger and the frustration, too bad it was at the expense of Kawhi's health. I still want Zaza to experience something in return...

Yeah, Pop defended Bowen back in the day when he really probably shouldn’t have. That one’s questionable. Okay, so Pop is not a saint. When did people ever think this tho? He’s Pop, he’s a real hard case even a bit of a jerk at times. That’s just who Pop is. Everything else doesn’t really change my view of the organization. Pop was right about Kawhi at the time (who Is my favorite player btw.) In the earlier interview, Pop clearly is saying that he hopes Kawhi will develop into a Tim Duncan like leader. When Pop later says that Kawhi wasn’t a leader then, he’s absolutely right. No hypocrisy there. What this video fails to mention is that Pop has repeatedly defended Kawhi’s decision and has defended him from day one. Pop doesn’t have an axe to grind with Leonard, so his comments had no bad intent. Pop even says that Kawhi COULD develop into a leader later on. I also don’t see what Duncan’s or Parker’s personal lives have to do at all with the Spurs. It’s basketball, it’s not like these guys are church leaders where their personal lives reflect on the organization. You can’t hold the spurs accountable for their mistakes off the court.

In the second interview, Pop said Kawhi, who by then was the Spurs' leading scorer and a Finals MVP, wasn't a leader. I've never heard of a player who was widely regarded to be a face of a franchise, to not be considered a leader. Now, Pop in the first interview says that Kawhi's leadership can be compared to Tim Duncan's in the sense that he shows up early to practice and leaves late, in other words, lead by example. So how does Pop go from saying that to blatantly saying "he wasn't a leader or anything"? It's strange. Regarding the personal life, most of the situations were pretty irrelevant but someone else brought to my attention the importance of the Tony Parker situation. Him sexting his teammate's wife can clearly create locker room issues and affect on/off court chemistry. Clearly it wasn't made out to be a big deal, but imagine how that can affect a player's trade value. Think of Gilbert Arenas's situation.

@@Reedstick It's not unusual that an excellent player isn't the vocal leader of a team, most of the time it's the locker room guy that take this role. For example Harden when he was the sixth man for the Thunder, he was the glue guy, the bond that kept KD and Russ together before they beefed about who was the alpha. For the Warriors Draymond and Iguodala have the role. And Pop wasn't wrong, a leader by example can't do it if he isn't playing, it's as simple as that.

This was an incredibly well done video; I’ve been explaining this scenario to people for quite a while and most seemed receptive to it. I’ll refer them to this as well. That being said I would say that I do have some criticisms especially in terms of Tim Duncan’s divorce. Tim Duncan was being slandered by his ex-wife for quite some time during the divorce and had to put a gag-order on her to get the slander to stop. He has never made any public address on the matter to my knowledge so I wouldn’t hold that against him. Secondly in regards to the leadership between Kawhi and Duncan his criticism of Kawhi is actually quite valid in my opinion. Tim Duncan did lead by example primarily, as Popovich said; but he also grew into a vocal leader in locker room and on the court as well. That is something that Duncan learned to do during his formative years behind the old vets; Kawhi on the other hand never learned to do that. Now was Pop bitter by that point? No doubt but his criticism was still valid. Kawhi did not adapt the role of being a well-rounded leader like Tim Duncan did, he only stayed in what was comfortable for him. When you lead by example but aren’t able to suit up your pretty much a non-factor to the team; which is why Patty and Manu were that much more vital to the team, because they had much less to work with during that season. Also in regards to Kawhi, there was also tension on his part due to his management team being stubborn as well in negotiations and playing hardball with the Spurs when negotiating contracts. This was a problem especially in 2015 when he wanted to sign for his now current contract; and has been a reoccurring problem throughout the 2018 season due to him not being forward and addressing the issue. All in all this is a great video, I especially appreciate you talking about the timings of both Pau Gasol and Danny Green, not many people know about these things. Keep up the good work B.E.

Just an addendum to this comment. I would also add that I think that the story about Tony Parker’s injury during the club brawl is also in a similar situation to Duncan’s divorce. Parker’s eye was injured as a result of a fight that he had no part of (to the best extent of my knowledge) so I wouldn’t really hold it against him for being caught in the middle of it.

This video had way more negative outlooks than positive ones and yes, I did watch the whole video! He barely mentioned how the Spurs have been in the playoffs consistently for 20 years and how Spurs choose player development rather than trading for superstars. The organisation is very boring for the media and hence, it doesn't get much coverage. But is it boring or is it normal and refined? Rarely anything scandalous happens here, so no fuel for the media to cover the Spurs. Man, The Spurs organisation has been real classy *most of the time* and deserves respect. How can you forget that they have the best shooting coaches in their arsenal? They also got great staff! Why would a coach not defend his player and call the said player out? Pop is a GOAT coach and there's barely anything for you to diminish his image. I like your videos but this is almost bait...but whatever, you mostly told the facts and gave your added commentary on them. Cheers.

Not sure if you didn't notice, but he starts off the video talking about the success of Tim Duncan and the Spurs, noting the 5 rings in 20 years, from when they drafted TD to Manu retiring and Tony Parker signing with Charlotte. The rest doesn't need to be said because anybody who is a basketball fan already knows what the Spurs have done. You completely missed the point of the video, about how the Spurs acquired TD and Pop's double standard on how to defend shooters. That is what is being looked at here.

Bit of a bias point of view. 1) People tend to forget the Spurs resting Duncan, ginobili and Parker for load management even getting fined by the league Ginobili would sometimes be cleared to play after injury but pop rested him more games. Look medical staff were wrong but i don't believe the spurs thought his injured lets risk our superstar player anyway, given that background. 2) You brought up Duncan's divorce. His wife cheated on him and he is the bad guy? 3) You credit spurs tanking to get those 5 championships. Yet ignore how hard it is for a small market team. They built through draft and smart moves in free agency. Drafting based on character, work ethic and talent. Not just talent.

I'm not entirely sure what that point of the video is apart from fueling some hate. I mean if you dig hard enough, every team has dirt, some more than others. Media can spin things however they want but the fact is spurs have an excellent track record of not rushing players back, it's astounding how often they just DNP REST players. Kawhi wanted to go to a big market that's the reason he left, remember he never mentioned any small market teams as his preferred destination. Also I get Pop is hypocritical with comments with Bowen and I'm not saying it's right but what you expect him to do? Bash his own players? Did Steve Kerr tell Dreymond to stop kicking people's balls? And we seriously talking about tanking like it's something new? Many teams tanked for Duncan that year (hello Boston), they just didnt win the lottery. So yea I think having a squeaky clean image is the last thing spurs care about. Yet because they are "boring" it's all the media can come up with for them

    1. The point of the video is exactly what the title implies. 2. The spurs "HAD" an excellent track record of not rushing players back, but after Kawhi, Green and Gasol; that is currently in question. And even Tony Parker is on record stating that he rushed back from his injury last season and should've stayed out longer. 3. The only "preferred destination" for Kawhi were the LA teams, which were closest to home and happen to be big markets. 4. "Also I get Pop is hypocritical with comments with Bowen and I'm not saying it's right BUT" .... If ifs and buts were candies and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. 5. About the tanking, yeah it wouldn't be as big of a deal if the Spurs just owned it instead of acting like it was all be "accident". And if Popovich hadn't been the one complaining about the Lakers acquiring Pau Gasol in 2008 knowing he essentially cheated his way into getting Tim Duncan in 1997 (which I had in the video, but didn't make the final cut).

@basketballexamined’s video is about how the Spurs image isn’t perfect as the media projects. Not everyone is aware of media manipulation to the extent others are so he is pointing out some inconsistencies in their reporting. Rushing back Pau and Danny refutes their “great” track record. Sports is a business first and entertainment, so yes Popovich will say emotional things, but he’s Wiley in that regard. People can/have have a tendency to latch on to narratives without regarding history too, so the Bowen point is important. This isn’t hate it’s just informing the general public on how the media can protect people/organizations of interest to fuel a narrative.

I like your content and will continue to do so. But this video looks lowkey, like a spurs hate video. Especially after trying to make the argument that Tim Duncan wasn't a PF. Which you know would denounce his legacy if you took that away from him. Just like this is trying to take the shine away from the Spurs legacy. Which is fine in a way because it creates more views for you guys, which I think you deserve. With that out of the way, if you look at all of the dynastys of the NBA. Everyone of them have some shady stuff going on. From the refs apparently helping the Lakers win against the spurs in the early 00s against these spurs and the kings. To conspiracies dealing with the NBA, Bulls, and MJ retiring the first time. To the Knicks seemingly being favored to get Patrick Ewing(not a dynasty but still a big market). My point is, as an NBA fan the shade runs deep and to somewhat enjoy the wins and losses in a somewhat genuine manner, you would have to accept those and move forward and see that. The Lakers were still dominant and their greatness outshined the controversy with the refs. MJs greatness as one of the best ever outshined his off the court scandals he dealt with. And New York has proven to this point that even if they had favors handed to them, they would be mismanaged lol. Just like the spurs revolutionized team basketball, and the respect factor pops had with his team was second to none. He was one of, if not the first to rest players purposely to keep them fresh for longer and possibly helped Duncan sustain a longer career for that reason. Just a fraction of what I'd like to say in reply to your video but no hate for this channel at all. I do like the content that's produced and will continue to support.

Why didn't Nash split the defenders in that wide open lane in the middle of the floor, and dribble up the court that way?

Some of your arguments are quite weird and biased to lean toward controversy. I understand you want to help people and basketball fans get over some common misled beliefs. But there are some elements you put there like they have some relevancy when they don't and the most easily influenced of your viewers will connect them when they have no correlations at all. I don't know if you made this on purpose or not, you seemed like someone who was aware of these concepts and I will be very disappointed with you if it was on purpose because it was what separated you from the Skip Bayless, Stephen A. Smith, Rachel Nichols, Colin Cowherd and other shitty media analysts. I don't see why player getting caught in the middle of a club fight or getting cheated on by its wife who then fill for divorce, has anything to do with the Spurs organisation or it's image. Only the TP sexting with Barry's wife is worth mentioning because of the obvious locker room issues it created, but shouldn't said wife being taken into account too in this case ? It takes two people to establish a sexting relationship, if she ever answered and gave TP the green light or some sort of uncertain signal or even started it, so both could be pointed at. Then the Pop's comments on Kawhi are spot on and he told no lie, Kawhi being a leader by example couldn't lead while in rehab and when he hid from Spurs staffs who wanted to acknowledge his progress while he was in NY. Sure the medical staff is completely at fault but Pop has nothing to do with that apart from not firing them. Also, some people commenting seems to believe Pop was pictured as a saint when nobody ever said or wrote something like that, people illusionned themselves with that narrative. Pop always took his players safety above all, he's the one teabagging the League for more than a decade about players resting, hence protecting them but also the franchise and its assets. Remember folks, IT was willing to play hurt, but nobody seem to ever have asked him what was Boston organisation's reaction to that. As for Dany Green, he was the one not getting a second opinion so he's responsible too.

How do you not see how public incidents of pieces of the organization don’t affect the image of the organization?

cuz the idea of mind control manipulation is new to the sports world. They are using government mind control techniques to coach players. Pop was in the army for a few years and he uses their tactics. This might seem good to a simple person, but those athletes become even more broken as a result, NOT better. PTSD is especially prominant. Remember when Lamarcus wanted out...POP had to brainwash him back.

@@lumpyrex007 so all those Spurs vets who speaks great about the organizations are all manipulated? I don't see them suffering any sort of PTSD. LaMarcus want out because he did not fit the system. Pop brought him by admitting he used him wrongly and that he will make some adjustments. Is that mind control?

@@DarlingBryan Brother imma explain this... Have you ever been manipulated by a narcissist? Please concider.... They brought lemarcus in and clearly he didnt fit with timmy and pao there. They broke him down by misusing him and that made lamarcus question his own ability. It made him question whether he wanted to play basketball anymore. He went to SA thinking they would use him good. But they broke his ego and now look at how good hes playing. Some kind of self actualized miracle? Maybe lemarcus found god? Tony, manu, timmy + the gang are all flying monkeys (look up the term, narcissists and sociopaths use people to do their bidding). When pop called a code red on kawhi, tony and manu started running their mouths to the media. Then pop comes in with the good cop act and says "we will treat you good from now on" BULLSHIT. You dont find it a coincidence that he brings in broken people? Derozen, alridge, rudy gay, manu, + any other international player outside their comfort zone. Robinson was a military kid. Timmy was an egoless wonder who lost his mother. Kawhi was another egoless wonder that lost a parent. When you have military parents, you are way more vulnerable to mind control. When you are passive like kawhi and timmy, its easier to slide things past them. Their leadership is about working hard and talking less. Kawhi's uncle saved him from pop's devaluation. Clearly pop didnt wanna give him the max contract, to show him he isnt worth it and to devalue him more. If kawhi took that shitty contract, he would be an underrated player for the rest of his career. Pop wanted him submissive. The deconstruction and reconstruction that armies do to solders is VERY similar to how pop works. Its not coaching, its about turning people into zombies. Look it up bro.
