Welcome to Surf Fishing In So Cal. My name is Nick Heid and I began surf fishing in 2014. Ever since my first session, I've been hooked. I started an information-based website and blog back in 2019 and it's turned into a full-blown guiding business and community for surf fishermen across Southern California. And, of course, this KZread channel was then born. Stay tuned for more of my surf fishing adventures and if you haven't started surf fishing just yet, get ready to leave the lakes behind and as I change your perspective of San Diego fishing..

Why mono over braid? Abrasion resistance? Thank you
Where did you catch these? It looked like Torrey Pines but I wasn't sure
@@user-nc1jc5vv8i San Diego. I don’t give specific locations but all the methods will work everywhere in so cal that looks anything like this beach
@@surffishinginsocal Thanks!
How long will the crabs stay vibrant in the plastic bottle? No water or sand in bottle?
@@ronpassmore7053 as long as it’s not too hot, all day. I like to run some water through them every hour or so to give them a cool down and some added oxygen
I usually just get muscle a lot easier to find
What beach in San Diego did you find all of these Corbina or spotfin Croaker
what size reel do you use?
Everything I use is in the description. 4000 series reel
Nice job! We catch a lot of these guys at Crystal Cove State Park, Newport Beach - good times! Also fun to swim with in San Diego. Leopard sharks are rad. Keep up the great videos.
Aren’t these white spotted wedge fish endangered!?
SoCal. When is the best month for Shark? July , right?
June is best but May - August is all really good
It looks like you need to set your hook harder if you keep losing them like that. great job though
For sure. That was certainly contributing back then.
Definitely not a Penn Battle
Swamis beach ? Definetly check it out
I've never heard of those perch being caught, south of San Clemente area. Pretty cool stuff.
Barred and walleye and black Surfperch can all be caught even into Mexico.
Im surprised , to many people know.We use to catch those perch all the time, didnt even know its a sought after fish
What size sinker are you using?
1 oz
Where is this at?
I was going through the same problem 😩 glad came across your video 👍🏾 new subscribers
Yah it’s always unfortunate when it happens. But for the price they’re great reels. I’ve had a handful of them for over 3 years through client useage and they’ve been through some rough hands and still working smoothly. I’m average probably only a 2-3 year lifespan though in salt water. The Spinfisher on the other hand I have has shown zero signs of wear and that’s been dunked a number of times
It’s surprise how long they can last if you maintain them good. Now the problem is that I can’t find the bearing no where do you mind telling me where did you buy yours? I got the penn Pursuit 3 6000
@@miguelpascual2823 the link is in the description of the video
How is the taste?
Solid I’d say
@@surffishinginsocal thx for answer
I have same problem model name ,Okuma 4000 series
I don’t have experience with that one but I bet it’s the same issue. I’m sure there’s a piece you can buy
@earthlingcarnivore605 😡 Don't eat LA and Orange County coast Fish...Pouson Barrels of DDT has been Found !
Nice video, very informative. What size /type rod do you have w your battle reel
All the specs of gear and tackle are in the description
Have the same problem

I'm heading there this coming week! I have never fished the ocean help me out!😅
You’ll kill it man!
My penn persuit 4 4000 like the golden rotator thing in the anti reverse broke in half and idk how😭
What time of the year is it ? Making a trip out to cali this Saturday and ivr been dreaming of it for the past four years since i was there last , please give me any tips and let me know what fish i should target , it would be very appreciated👏
This could really benefit from the use of a bright green laser
Hello sir, thank you for your beautiful videos. I have an ultra ligth rod 5-30g what weight for lead you advise me? Thanks
Personally I’d up the rod to what’s mentioned in my gear and tackle link but if you’re sticking with the rod, you might wanna go 1/2iz to 3/4oz
🙋♂️👍🙂
What size weight
1 ounce egg weight
Tighten up your drag.
Thanks
Black ball = No surfing in Swim area (🏁between🏁)
No disrespect, but for ceviche, no chilli, no flavor.
lol I feel disrespected
I’ve been catching a few in the back bay, but when’s the best time to catch them in the surf
June
10 halabit o lenguados en 3 hours y puño de crocker amarillow nome pongo amarillo es mi color😳😳👍
Perpendicular current on the beach? What is causing the current?
Typically swell direction along with beach structure (new formations of sand etc). There’s always numerous swells from numerous different directions hitting the beach and sometimes one is more powerful than the rest, resulting in a general southern or northern current. This is completely separate from a rip current.
Great video, great channel man. Really helpful and genuinel
Appreciate it man!
these are great with lemon
What was used to catch the yellowtail if you dont mind sharing
It was a fluke catch on a piece of cut bait. I wanna say it was yellowfin croaker chunk bait. Was using a 90lb wire shark leader with a 6 oz Sputnik and a 7/0 circle hook
@@surffishinginsocal I see, thanks. such an awesome catch maybe next time im up there i'll get lucky
Hi Nick! What month did you catch your "multiple" halibut in this video? Thanks! 👍
Hey Tom! I believe this was either really late March or early April
Hi Nick, Do you have a brand name or picture of the mussels you buy. I have tried at least 2 from the Asian market. In both cases the mussel literally disintegrates as they thaw. They are like a frozen powder. The only "usable" part is the rubber band part that forms the outside. They don't look at all like yours in the picture. Thank you for all your awesome content (I also sent this to your Blog post) Doug
Hey Doug! I believe it’s New Zealand green shell mussel meat. I buy them here: 5382 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92105 and I buy them as mussel meat and not on the half shell
good times on the California sand form you boast to mine cheers.
What pound line are you using? Additionally, what size and what type of hook are using?
This link shows my exact set up. surffishingsocalsd.com/nick-heids-surf-fishing-set-ups/ 15lb and a #2 owner mosquito hook
is it possible to find them later in the year ? like december
It’s definitely possible. But much more difficult and unlikely than sunmer
Wasted so very much meat off this one. Shame.
Was this in carlsbad?
There is no need to remove the main gear. Just take off stuff from the stock under the rotor and the anti reverse can be pulled off.
what beach did you catch the yellow from
Is using smaller hooks and only one small sand crab a viable option? Or is using the mosquito hooks with 3 crabs better?
There are many ways that will work. This is just what I use
whats the size of your bullet weight?
Half ounce
Great tutorial,thnx.
No problem!
