I just did my Seymour JB Bridge PU and a Pearly Gates Neck PU like this!!!!!!!!! My guitar is alive!!!!!! I cant put it down now, totally amazing and the string volume and tone really picked up on the A,D,G and B strings. I wasn't at all happy with with either PU, now they are AWESOME!!!!!!! Seymour Duncan take note. Thanks a ton Bro!!!!

Surely the north pointing end of the compass needle is actually charged South - that's why it points to the North pole. Therefore the top of your pickup at 2'58" in the video is acyually attracting south and is therefore north up...?!?

I don't know if it's true, but I read in Guitar Player Magazine back in the 70s that the screw slots should be alternately diagonal to the strings, like this: \/\/\/ Something something about the magnetic fields. I have no idea if that actually does anything, but I still do it. LOL!

Why would you put the ruler on an angle on the end of the neck and not flat on the pickup? How can you measure an angled lined

Sounds like a great replacement for those bottom-loaded, steel-polepiece single coils that come on Squiers and such. Those have a fun responsiveness, if only they didn’t sound so “messy”

Wow, a lot of people saying this advice is plain wrong… it’s just one way to do it that is tried and tested. The bit about high pole pieces making a “spiky” tone says a lot. These guys have run the gambit on playing with pole pieces, and they make humbuckers, and are trying to teach us how to make their humbuckers sound like humbuckers. If you want a single/hybrid sounding pickup, which is cool too, DONT follow this vid’s advice lol, but these guys ain’t wrong.

G strings on my 7-string guitars always seem to have lower volume than other strings doesn’t matter how high I set pole pieces for those G strings. I gave up on adjusting pole pieces and have been using Boss Equalizer GE-7 pedal to for tuning the string volumes.

The neck pickup on my tele sounds like I've got some reverb going but I don't. It's impossible to get a clean sound. It doesn't sound terrible but it does sound off somehow. Are my pickups too close or too far from the strings? I think it's set at about 3mm bass and 2.5mm treble side.

I actually stopped bending the ground lug to the pot and instead just use a wire. I do this because of breaking the pot by accident...that pcb that the lug is attached to can break easily! Trust me..after this happening to me a gazillion times...a wire is easier! Also, the tinning the lug at the top is great information. That Solder can go down that entire lug to the bottom and can and will cause breakage or shorts eventually!

Great video, love the method, explanation, etc. The only constructive criticism... Leaving your solder joints too shiny could mean a possible cold solder joint. You should have a matte finished look to solder. That means you've reached the proper temperature for maximum hold. Cold solder joints can break easily. This is of course if you're using a 60/40 solder with a rosin coar.

Good video. Equally, I don't think you need an hour to do this, as stated. Further, I would replace the pick-up foam pieces to ensure the pickups aren't tilting forward, as they are in this video. Instead, sit flat/parallel to the body.

How to adjust the pickup height separately for each string? I like to raise the E string higher than the other strings. Therefore, the distance between the E string and the pickup is wider than in other strings. Is it possible to lift the pickup magnet only under the E string?
