BOSS SD-1 Overdrive Pedal C6 Mod - Before and After
In this video we give the BOSS SD-1 C6 Modification a go and compare a stock pedal to a modded one. Removing Capacitor C6 from the circuit is one of the most popular and easiest to perform mods on the SD-1 and is said to give the pedal a more open and air-y tone.
We'd love to hear your comments below. Have you performed the mod yourself? Which do you think is better, the stock pedal or the C6 modded one?
This is the second video in our '100 Seconds with ...' series and we'd love it if you'd hit subscribe to see more of them and also let us know what else you'd like to see in this series. Bit of a hint: this isn't the last you'll see of the dual SD-1s - there'll be a bit more modding A-Bing to come!

I like the yellow pedal the most.
Thanks for such a concise video showing not only the demo but the mod all under 2 min! Impossible! Can't wait to try this with mine
Well that convinced me to either remove C6 or put it on a toggle.
I just modded my strings. Dipped them in paraffin wax and then baked them on 350 for like an hour. The difference is very noticeable. Oh yeah I removed some windings too. Way more 3D now
Hello. I bought a Boss SD-1 in 2019 and its circuit came very compact, using microcomponents. I heard that from 2018 Boss made this change in the manufacture of this model. Do you know if the mod works on this one? I've been looking inside and the C6 is easy to access.

The principle is the same: if you remove c6 you'll have the same resulting sound of this mod. Working on a smd board can be trickier though, be careful not to damage any other component
Funny was just watching yesterday some SD-1 videos. Cant hear much difference from video. Maybe i'll try this, never modded any pedal. Always can go back to stock, right?
C6 mod! 👍
Does this work on a SD made in 2019 or after?

Pedals now are most likely made with smd components which makes working on the pcb much more difficoult. My suggestion is looking for an older used one to mod

If you could find the capacitor, you just need to remove it. It's very simple, even using a normal size soldering iron.
I only feel the SD-1 needs to be more 'open' at low volume. the moment I crank up to jam volumes, I think it's perfect stock

I've had one for 40 years. I always thought it was a little too nasally. I just clipped a bunch of stuff. The D4 D5 D6 C6 LOL now it's a clean boost

No jumper, just removing?

I just removed mine. Mind you, I changed quite a few components in mine.
And all we do is remove 1 transistor?

It's probably not coming over that clearly but to me the C6 is night and day far clearer, Tony 👍 A marked difference :)

Radioshop Pickups yes now that I am supping my tea and not making it, it’s mischievous clearer. Lovely jubblee.
Idk sometimes I think I want to buy a new one cuz I lost c6 lol

Just buy a 10nf small capacitor and stuck it in there.
C6 to 3.9nf
Why not play the exact same thing the exact same way so we can get a true sound difference.
urgh!
