As you can imagine,I've got a dead strat neck pickup. A bit reluctant to start messing around as its a 63'.......but everything so far ends at the pickup. Your methodolagy and pace was very captivating Paul. thanks.

I have one that is like that. The folks at Lollar wouldn't touch it. It's a bridge bar pickup for a yamaha bb series bass.

Excellent video. Please, I will be very grateful if you can answer some questions for me. Approximately how many turns do you have to unwind the wire so that a difference in tone can be objectively appreciated?. When unwinding, do high and low frequencies increase and medium frequencies decrease?. Thanks for your reply.

Paul when you say "north up " are you referring to the compass reading which showed as north . am i right (and did i listen during physics lessons) that would make the poles as south up,, great video

Hi Andy. You are quite right ! Sorry Paul but when it comes to magnets you should of course know that opposites attract. So if the north on a compass goes towards the pole pieces that means the top of the magnets are gaussed to south. The majority of old Fender pickups are south up as well. Apart from 50s ones and ones that are RWRP for the middle positions on many Strats. By the way I just checked a set of 70s Strat pups from various years (76 to 78) I have lying around and yes, they are indeed all south up. Good work on the video though. Makes people realise what goes into making and repairing them.

It's probably been disturbed at some point. It would be one of the ones exposed to the outside part of the coil so maybe someone taking the cover off might have done it 👍 Paul

Why aren't the magnets placed at different heights?

The 70s ones just weren't staggered Jisan - not sure why! Could possibly have been a money saving thing from Fender at the point - ordering magnets of the same size would certainly have been easier! Paul
