    I don't agree with much said in this video, but understand from someone that didn't like the changes. I replayed the game a number of time and felt it had solid emotional impact for a person that focuses on narrative in games. It's not the greatest, but it followed after BoF IV in making it relevant and impactful. You can tell there was a friendship between Bosch and Ryu, but he chose his father's approval and ranking up above that. Even so, and even when he loses himself, that last moment when Ryu strikes the fatal blow you can see how lost he was. A villian or antagonist isn't necessary to empathize with, they just need to be believable. Do we need to empathize with Mao or Hitler or just understand where their motivations came from and understand human flaws we all deal with? It's not wrong to, but some take it too far and antagonists become anti-heroes. Unless wanting Nina to leave the party because she was sick or not able to fight at all, I have no idea how you expected her illness to translate into gameplay. Aside having her drop dead or immobile, there was no way to help her beyond what they did and get her to the surface. Thus, the entire reason for the haste in the plot, aside being pursued. It was the challenge in this game that made me hate it at first until I lost the first time because I misused the D-Counter. Then I loved it because I had a reason for my anxiety and feeling there was a gravity to the game. There were too many antagonists to have dedicated moments to them all or at least, it wasn't relevant to get to know them. They were obstacles characterized in the moments we saw them. They were people and we understood motivation, weak or understandable. They would be meme worthy if they pulled a Metal Gear Solid with each one giving a monologue before they died. It was different, I didn't like the underground at first, but it all grew on me as I understood the gameplay and story pace. It was different, but didn't abandon what BoF was. After all, the older games were shallow gameplay with little story. The colors, character designs and changing to a dragon were it's namesake. It really only grew somewhat with BoF III but more fully with BoF IV.

    If I did a run like this, I’d have to be able to steal stuff from enemies. There’s some really nice things you can steal, Right Arms from those Bomb enemies comes to mind….plus, I can’t remember if Morph yields anything decent, but I’d absolutely use that in an “items-only” run of there were any decent offensive items I could morph

  • @Caspicum
    @Caspicum9 күн бұрын

    I've got a list of games where I will need to use Steal, and I was tossing it up. You definitely lose a lot if you don't allow Steal. It'd be far more interesting and versatile, you could also keep a low level which would be nice.

    This game has a decent selection of items you can utilize from start to finish. With knowledge on what to steal from as you progress you can make yourself pretty powerful. lol even throwing Atomic Scissors can be pretty fun if you take the time to steal a bunch of em

    A re-master would be lovely, like nothing but texture updates and making it looks awesome and have no load times then throw in a bit of extra game play which was not in the OG, I now they made the Digimon world like game but you get 2 but like this game itself just getting a touch up would be nice, especially with the ending to the movie I never knew they released in 2020 and I was like kinda pissed they keep doing this too us, like Clerks 3 and Digimon are making us remember our childhood is gone and what we have left is watching people say goodbye, like sure does suck, I don't wanna watch a comedy and then feel like life is pointless and just waiting too die.

    I'm so glad this game still gets love, can only hope we get a true successor to this game. Next order just wasn't the same, tried to make it too pretty and it lacked the simple charm. I want to go back to File City!! Just give me the same game, same style art just modernised and maybe 100-150 more prosperity points to acquire across a bigger map! Pleeeeaaaseee Bandai!!!!

    Not saying your complaints aren't legitimate, but most RPG's had repetitive mindless battles. Everything from Final Fantasy to Dragon Quest had you repeating the same strategies from sunup till sundown and Arc II was no different. What made Arc II stand out was it had grid-based combat next to traditional RPG elements like dungeons and towns. Each of those elements on their own own was nothing special, but putting them together led to something unique. All those sidequests were a big deal too. Maybe they weren't all great, but most JRPG's back then never had so many. Even the story was was more involved and complex than other games. Parts of it haven't aged well, but it's important not to look at it in a vacuum.

    I don't mind encounters, it's more about how they're used, and Arc 2 just threw them at you sporadically. A few games use them to show how dire a situation is, like that part in FF4 where you're defending Fabul, and in Alexandria on Disc 3 of FF9. Trying not to be too specific, but if you know, you know. I also like encounters, whenever I replay DQ1 I grind the hell out of my guy. They're fine when used appropriately, and I think being able to flee if you're fed up is also a key factor that means you don't have to marry every single encounter. Where I think Arc 2 faltered, and idk if I say this specifically in the video, if not, my bad, was that the battles are long, excessive, and ultimately feel worthless. I reckon the first half of the game is pretty good, it's about average for a JRPG, there's a nice spacing and pacing of encounters to story/sub-story, but then the back half is just packed. Every time you transition a map, it's a guarantee that you will fight the same 5 guys you fought moments ago and walked right through. That Volcano part where every time you get on a minecart means an encounter, and you've gotta ride like 6 of them, and also return there 3 or 4 times to hit all the side quests made me realise how careless the game is, again, more toward the back half, the front half is genuinely solid.

    Can you make the full list of RPG romhack definitives or do I have to do it? I don't make vids about gaming so you're better off doing it. Except when I do stuff I do it comprehensively, I will get all 134 of them or whatever without missing anything.

    Additional encounters still provide some gil as compensation, and some areas have different items, so it's not always about reducing the number of encounters to save on item usage.

    I have no idea why they stopped doing this. The universe of Harry Potter lends itself alot better to an RPG format if you are making an action adventure game it better be a 10/10 because unless it is there is almost no reason to revisit it in the future.
