Seeing Itadaki Street and realizing that it clearly is the inspiration for Kingdom Heart's Birth By Sleep's command board minigame gave me a visceral reaction. PTSD is real and shouldn't be downplayed.

Was actually going to mention BBS's command board when he started mentioning side modes in other games, honestly as much as it's completely skippable it's a really solid side mode, from what I've seen from challenge and rando runners it's actually sometimes optimal to hop into it immediately to get access to early game Magnet

Do love the Nintendo of Europe trend of having a completely different, more literal, title for an international release that they happen to be publishing.

The Vita is such a glorious touch of death for so many games. It's a black hole of franchise curtailing. Monopoly is a board game designed from the ground up as an aggravating experience which focusses more upon political commentary than any elememt of enjoyment, so there's a good niche for people that want a Monopoly like game, without the 5 hours of Christmas day torture it brings.

This is like trying to find that specific ice cream flavor you like, everything may taste close but it's not Eat Street taste. Although, I do not think I would go to Japan with broken English just to find it.

Board Game Top Shop can be pretty fun, it's called "Tenant Wars" in Japanese which is hilarious. I actually still have a copy of it in my collection. Itadaki Street is one of those series I've always wanted to try but never got around to, I'll have to look into one of the translations.

Of course, the biggest fan of Gambling Yuji Horii made a money based, luck based board game

Such a pleasant surprise having Itadaki Street covered. I have much fond memories with the PS2 Itadaki Street and Boardgame Top Shop. Sadly none of them pique my interest on becoming economy savvy lmao The upcoming Momotetsu is going to have the whole world as the board. And it'll be sad if that doesn't get translated as well. @@Caspicum For whatever reason not-only has the Electric Railway series never seen an English release, but, there's never been a ROM Translation attempt on any of the series releases. The closest I have seen is of a 10 year-ish old girl playing the Super Nintendo version while her dad records her reading the Japanese and talking to "her" audiance (her Dad's KZread channel) in English.

I’ve been on a Japanese exclusive game kick, so I love shit like this. There’s a lot of board games tangentially related to RPGs and RPG franchises. Momotaro Dentetsu is a spin off of an RPG franchise, and there’s even an RPG based off Life game on the Famicom. It is insane to see which games weren’t released here. I found another channel called RndStranger just made a video on it, as he is reviewing every single Famicom game. Also found a website that has the fan reception and critiques on most of the games released in Japan. Something I found interesting was that although Wizardry 6-8 are considered the pinnacle of the series in America, but are very controversial in Japan. Blew my mind.

Ever heard of Culdecept Revolt, for the 3ds, it felt a lot like Fortune Street but you build a deck and put monsters on every space you own. When you land in an owned space you either pay the rent or try to fight your way out with your monsters and magic, pretty fun game with that IS feeling

Impressive amount of minigames in a game that feels like a minigame 😆

The PS1 has a rendition of this called BoardGame Top Shop published A1 Games. There was also a Japanese Sega Saturn port of the game. It's basically this, but set in a mall and with a crayon aesthetic.

I was gonna suggest Culdcept, but it's an RPG card-game board-game hybrid so it's the complete opposite of casual. There's also that Danganronpa S Summer Vacation thing I never played. I guess that might be similar.

This is probably a stretch, but are you familiar with The 100 World Story: The Tales on a Watery Wilderness? It's a Famicom board game video game that tries to condense the RPG experience down into just a short session where you move across the board and try to complete one of the scenarios within a set amount of turns.

I've only played the version of this that's stuffed into kingdom hearts birth by sleep. I have no idea if it's dumbed down or exactly the same. That being said I didn't really like it, although I imagine it would be more fun to play with other people as opposed to ai pooh bear and tigger.

Parcheesi in DQ3 is based on Sugoroku instead which was also in Judgment's side modes so a needed correction. Yeah it's the big omission but I loved my hours in Birth By Sleep's Command Board which I feel like is the most approachable form of Fortune Street. Easy to understand tutorials, a fun Disney whimsy to the board and the opponents and even a way to feed back into the core gameplay system as a good break from the game goes a long way to make it one of the best iterations if you like KH since it takes a while to unlock but when you do..

There's a glaring omission of the Electric Railway series. However, its forgiven as that series is truly Japanese-only. Konami didn't even attempt an English DLC during the panedemic. The Switch release was topping the Japanese sales charts beating out more obsure titles like "Legend of Zelda". ;) It's a dying shame. There's a flourishing mod-scene that's popped up around Fortune Street as it seems the Wii version was pretty easy to hack into and mod. ("Custom Street" is awesome if you're not playing on native hardware.) However, I do with a blend of the series was made into something released on Steam.... just force in the cameo stuff as microtransactions and the title would make mad bucks.

I'm not sure if I addressed it directly, but I did play it and use it visually. I always have a game list in the descrption, and I think it's the one you're talking about! It lacks something, and idk what it is, maybe English options, but I couldn't gel with it. Also I didn't know people were modding the Wii version this is HUGE. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep had a fortune street lite mini game that gets all the basic fundamentals of a fortune street game, would make for a better "easy" mode for future FS games. Easily my most played KH mini game and not just because it helps upgrade your skills for the main game so probably also the best one by that metric.

Always wanted to play one of these but unfortunately you need a fortune to own fortune street.

The closest I think I can think of from my experience is Full Animal Party. I'd say its closer to Monopoly but it does have Mini games and its main mode follows Mario Party gameplay but it isn't terrible

this game and mystery dungeon were always weird in the directions nintendo took them because *both* of them started off as games with original characters also famicom wars was originally the first advance wars

Yeah I love Famicom Wars, but I had quicker access to the Advance Wars remake for footage, and after playing like 10 itadaki street games, I spent almost a hard month capturing footage, so I just grabbed whatever would fit my point. Normally I'd never use throwaway meme shit like wargroove or fighterz, but it was just readily accessible at the time.

this video gave me a lot more questions then answeats. this looks so much like the shit Kingdom Hearts BBS board minigame that is MANDATORY for cool spells. The PS1 store buying game sounds actually super fun and charming. and now... You are BR? I would never find out without the passport story but its super cool to know if you are, really makes me want to dive into my niche videogames and do some presentation on them just by comparition. idk why my mind works shit like that, but yeah, hope you get one more of these games man.

Love this game, I have literally bought 3 Copies of it, one for me and 1 for both my friends (Right before nintendo announced they were going to turn wifi off the wii). Sad this never game out in other versions. I am trying to find a PS4 english patch but doesnt look like it. Does the PSP Vita version have local multiplayer? I own the 30th anniversary on the PS4 but I was wondering if i were to get an emulator and have someone remote connect to my computer, if you could still do multiplayer on it

What about that custom street world tour mod for the wii that adds like 135 boards and that fanmade sequel to the wii game?

I don't think my particular brand of autism would let me jive with this series, it mostly just causes me somehow take anime bullshit seriously and overthink games made for teenagers, but I have come away with an appreciation of it and what makes it cool and unique. I pray for all Itadaki Bros that Square eventually makes another one instead of releasing Final Fantasy games again for the thousandth time. But we all know which one of those they're gonne do.

I'm so upset that Itadaki Street Special never came out in English when it basically looked like Dragon Quest x Final Fantasy Mario Party basically...

Honestly, anything you can grab, I'd go for PS1 and beyond, but the Wii version's fine, and was officially translated. I was really digging on the DS version for some reason. I think the tiny 2D assets just got me in a profound way.

Also, as for games similar or like Itadaki Street, I think the only one that maybe comes to mind is the Dokapon series. Or at least Dokapon Kingdom, anyway.
