I remember getting stuck on Chapter 10 I believe? as a kid, the one stage where your goal is actually to simply reach the other side of the map (easily cheesed by just tower throwing) I was dumb back then and thought you had to kill everything (like basically every other level)

Oh.....so it's a grinding game that has automatic grinding. So....it's a modern mobile game?

@@FakeHeroFang That runs at 20FPS on the high graphics mode which just means full-res. The low graphics mode must be like 50% resolution upscaled beacuse it's so blurry, but at least it runs at a whopping 30 fps.

Disgaea 6 is so bizarre. It legit feels like a game that doesn't even want you to play it. It's a downgrade in so many ways in both of art and mechanics to the previous one in the series. And I feel it suffers from being TOO streamlined. Honestly I feel the Disgaea 1 remake is the best of both worlds in that regard. Honestly I'd be happy if NIS took a LONG break from Disgaea, I know it's their flagship, but these games are starting to feel like Pokemon in redundancy. And this is coming from someone who likes both those series to a point.

They need to go back to Disgaea 2. Fewer annoying characters and a focus on deep mechanics. I don't mind the speed of the games, as it's cool you can ratchet up the speed for grinding, but they shouldn't be discouraging you from actually playing the games.

@Penguin Economics that they dont wanna make nothing new, if they can and they will reuse and port every game again and again witout nothing new, La pucelle a good game only got a port and never left japan, and that was a good port with new content, now they ports dont get any new content, like disgaea 5 complete the only new thing is a couple of prinnies and thats all

We uhhh... we try to keep them separate. Prinny is a really high achiever that falls into some nasty habits when the two get together.

Remember when there were weapon skills and unique skins for rare equipment and twice the humanoid and monster classes so every stage wasn't the exact same generic npc enemies? Good times.

thanks for this one. I love disgaea 5. I was planning to get this one but I never knew they put a stupid auto battle mechanic in it like a mobile game that I never liked as it brings the question of what is the point of even playing and buying the so called "GAME" if the AI can beat it for you.

It does have three graphics settings on Switch, to control how it runs which was really impressive but why not just make your game run well and look good? :^) Defo hard avoid this one.

Disgaea 5 is mechanicaly superior, ds1 has the best story.

Yeah I wish auto-battle could only be toggled after accomplishing some late-game milestone because I gave it a shot on like level 2 and could never look back. I also wasn't a huge fan of the DI system, I certainly love the idea of automating the AI, but didn't enjoy playing with the flowchart implementation.

I had to double check to see if my video was on 2x speed. It wasn't.

It's a decent idle/incremental game, but just not the same "Disgaea" that people look for. Altho, I bet if the menuing, controls, and performance were on par with Disgaea 5's flexibility, I bet it wouldn't be as bad LOL

There's a really weird thing about that game in that I keep forget it exists. I don't have anything against it. Nothing I found absolutely awful. But nothing truly amazing. The characters are serviceable (Himboverlord is precious), the story is fine. But I remember it as much as the last Mercenary Saga game I played. In a way, it being so tepid may beworse than if it was an absolute trainwreck.

I did this for the whole game. Fell asleep in item world, woke up with it cleared. Hope 7 is better without this feature or penalties for it, it's so effective you just auto battle the whole game and read the mediocre story.

I think I was on chapter 4 and decided to stop. I'll go back and play the first 2 again. Or 4, it lacks the story elements from the first 2 but the gameplay is pretty tight.

Auto battle was such a nice addition. Even just lightly using to immediately get all the units into the field instead of selecting them one by one was so good.

@@kyler247 1 is pretty rough, but by far has the best story. The stat escalation is also pretty mild, you'll finish the game sub level 100, and end game is optional. There's very few mechanics that aren't in most SRPGs anyway, and you're not locked into min-maxing bullshit. Disgaea 2 has a better gameplay balance, and way more optional stuff to do, plus it streamlined a bunch of features, but the story is a *bit* weaker. Everything after 2, in my opinion, isn't very good. 4 is okay, Dimension 2 is about the same. Sorry for the lack of reply, KZread held this comment for review and I have no idea why.

Bought D6 2 days ago and it'd easily the worst in the mainline series It just misses the mark completely imo Doesn't feel like you start from nothing anymore and the actual progression is just completely lost 😪 Really bummed aha atleast I haven't played D5 in years back to that to feed the Disgaea needs

I think I'm in the minority when I say this, but I honestly legitimately love the idea of an auto-battle system, I just think it being available from the start is a mistake. I'm thinking maybe only unlock it on a stage after you both finish it twice and finish all of the postgame story. I want to see this mechanic in D7 with some major tweaking, but I do think D6 is a good game, and that the loss of some of the earlier game's mechanics helps to make things easier for newcomers to get into and understand easily, and it gives the generic units much more identity.

If you won auto battle from a hidden boss or those item world things then maybe. But ignoreing that, the shift to 3d was so damn odd and the choicesvthey made for characters. Bleh. The main crew is fine sure but...hmmm.

Just waiting on an HD sprite version of 2 and then I think its time to go to sleep Disgaea... I just keep remembering the channel Food4Dogs run by a sweet old lady and how she's played every disgaea game; I don't wanna subject her to lower and lower quality games! (just look up her vids "Talking Disgaea" and even "How I got into gaming")

Some games are worse than others, but it's not for everyone. If you're not about pumping your numbers hard, it's a tough sell. The spin offs are way better anyway, Phantom Brave is the shit.

Beat this whole game. And the post content I think. It’s more fun grinding skill level for spells for 3 hours and slowly seeing the progress in Disgaea 1,2, or 4 than this whole games progression system. Never once felt like my hard work paid off. Completely hollow experience.

I just really want all of NIS' games to get ported to steam as "Complete" versions, like D1C, a Complete version of D2, D3, DD2 and Infinite, the Rhapsody trilogy, La Pucelle and the Witch and the Hundred Knight...let us play all of them conveniently without emulation, please

It is so awkward looking at this and i am someone who loves Final Fantasy 12 gambit system. I played most of Disgaea from 1 to 5 at least. I still love 2 the most. 6... is a pass for me sadly

and that makes this game a hard 'NOPE' from me.

I'm happy that we will get Disgaea 6 on ps4/ps5. It was weird last few years how NISA skip PS4/5 with some games, especially when they were always on PS. I guess Nintendo payed for exclusivity for one year. Maybe Sony's fault too, because they care less for japanise developers, it's sad. Before switch all games were on PS4,maybe ps fans don't buy as many japanise games as switch users,but still there are many fans left on playstation.

That's kind of the issue of "auto attack" in FF13 I feel. I imagine this is great for trash/grind encounter but...

Really sad to see where Disgaea ended up, I really loved the series but 6 kind of shot itself in the head for no real good reason. None of the original fans like it and it definitely didn't get any new fans when it plays like a mobile idle clicker game. I think the real problem was that only the first game felt actually inspired. Disgaea 1 was the best by far that had an actually enjoyable story and a full cast of characters that were fun to see interact putting them in fun situations, sequels ended up just having a couple okay characters with the rest of the 4+ pack filler characters having shitty gimmicks and returning characters were reduced to just flanderization which sucked when you have such a giant cast of characters. Disgaea sequels have gotten so bad with just coasting on the original, that one joke gag encounter that was like 20 seconds long in the original of etna shooting sentai guys in the dick mid transformation they've stretched that shit out for so long that one of the main characters in 6 is based entirely around it. NIS didn't have this problem with their "stand alone" games like Soul Nomad, Phantom Brave, ZHP, LoR, Makai Kingdom, ect. Even the spin offs within Disgaea like Prinny or Disgaea Infinite were way more inspired then its actual sequels which all felt phoned.

the OG Disgaea also had a touching story amid the joke scenes. It was all played up to make the characters more likeable so it could drop some hard bombs on you toward the end. Disgaea 2 tried a similar thing, and sort of got away with it, which was great, as the gameplay had some much needed refinements, but after that I can't stand to watch what they did to the story... Or the gameplay for that matter. The days when I started puppy paw stick duping were the days I knew the ride was over.

I remember playing Disgaea 1 on the PsP, and getting to the bit where hell goes full Catholic, and you find out why the Pink Prinny is in hell. Fucked me up. Caught me completely off guard for such incredibly conceptually dark material to be in this stupid grindy weeb game. Disgaea 1 is great.

Disgaea 1 had the best story and Disgaea 2 had the best combination of not-annoying characters and reasonably speedy gameplay (seriously, disgaea 1 on ps2 is unbearably slow). Disgaea 3 was the first completely unnecessary game. I had fun with 4 and 5, but they brought in basically nothing new except for slightly streamlining recruitment and leveling. Eh. The core of the games has always been combat and item world grinding and those haven't improved meaningfully since 2.

@@TheSamuraiGoomba I kinda disagree. 2 is a step up in gameplay and honestly I think its cast is very distinct from 1's to stand on its own but I do think the other sequels all offer some value. 4 has a decent cast, with one of the best MCs in the series and streamlines a lot of the slow pace from 3 while 5 more or less brings the series to the peak of its gameplay, granted at the cost of the cast being fairly dull. Part of the reason 6 had to reinvent itself so drastically is due to how much 5 really is about as far as they could go in terms of the gameplay the series had at that point.

Disgaea 3 is just a hollow retread of 2's gameplay while adding nothing and removing all likeable characters. I agree that 4 has decent gameplay but what does it offer aside from hd sprites? Which are nice, but still. Once you get past the story content, you end up with item world and postgame that isn't up to par with disgaea 2, in my view. 5 *should* have the best gameplay in theory, but I hate how overlords shit all over generics. Generics are the whole entire reason why I play Disgaea. Some of the story characters are cringe as hell, too. Curry girl sucks, Magnus sucks, seduction overlord is a shitty repeating meme, Glasses Man is so boring it hurts and Killia is beyond generic, which is a cardinal sin for protagonists in Disgaea.

I wanted to like the first game, the characters are really fun but I got walled around like the 3rd level. Seemed like it wanted me to grind the old levels for gear and recruiting, so I just kinda dropped it. Games that play themselves are boring as m8. I dunno what the other games are like, but if there's a sweet spot inbetween the first game dropping you in without much guidance, and a literal auto grindfest mobile game, they should have stuck to that.

The first game is actually solid! You shouldn't need to grind that early on, generally you can clear the story without grinding, as it's saved for the end-game. If you were making good use of combos and keeping your healing stocked, as tough as that fight is (pretty sure it's the first midboss) you should rock it. As for Disgaea 6 tho, you right. If a game plays itself it should also offer me titties.

From my point of view the best Disgaea game gameplay wise and content wise is 4 vita, and event that has serious slowdowns and glitches, but yes 6 has serious issues one of them is that them remove weapons skill, that kills creative builds now every character has a specific weapon well except monster but if they wanted to make monster more like humanoid characters at leats they should give them some special animations when they use weapons, and thats only one of the many problems that the game has, also a lack of characters in base game, seriously no Valkirye and Wizard, classes that have been since disgaea 1

I always thought 3 and 4 took it too far with Magichange and all that, but I can't deny that 4 is probably the best mechanically. I haven't played D2 in a while, but I also dug that, though I think it's largely based off of 4. The first 2 games will always be the most special to me, and I think it's because I played them the most, but the fact that the characters and story were taken seriously was a bigger seller than streamlining and adding mechanics. It's a shame we can't have a game that plays like 4, with a story like 1.

Disgaea 2 is the best in terms of gameplay imo, because the additions in 3 and 4 were largely unnecessary. 5 even more so with the overlord powers making story characters too strong compared to generics.

​@@TheSamuraiGoomba well many off them were unncesasary, but also that game has a actually good improvements, like buying skill is least grinding, also i like the point that they try to buff monster in some way (but they failed), because since 1 they were to weak or were magic users and monster weapons in 1 were only center in atk, also i like the evilities (from 3 and 4 not so much for 5) that lead you make unique characters but only one slot or 2 in monsters, 5 broke that and many of them were pretty weak

@@ZeroTaichi Monsters in Disgaea 2 were fine though. Some of them were bad, but some were crazy strong. 5 tried to buff them but the overlord abilities ended up buffing story characters more than everyone else and invalidating monsters even more by comparison.

Disgaea's always been my favorite series but man, 6 looks awful. 1 and 2 are my favorites overall, 3 and 4 did some things very right and other things not so well, then 5 was just bland and now 6 is... this. Honestly somebody needs to translate the other two Marl Kingdom/Rhapsody games so everybody can realize it was the best NIS series all along.

Game was kinda disappointing tbh. Autogrinding is nice sure, but they stripped so many of the good features that 5 had. And I just found out recently that the 5 Complete pc port stripped all network functions. Guess I'm moving back to 4+

Grinders look for efficiency. What madman would choose not to do this? They even 100x'd the levelcap... It just doesn't mean anything anymore. The numbers are all wrong. It's so unsatisfying to play at this point.

I only ever got into Disgaea 1-3 and then D2, but nowadays I see the series and I have zero interest.

What's the point? If you're that certain to win just add a skip level(s) function instead of a gross 4x speed that makes my eyes and ears bleed.

I think I'll stick with Digimon Survive... At least that looks like it's not gonna literally play itself

Bro, you can make it much faster than that. If you unlock all skip settings you can make it so battles don't even last 5 seconds. Also a reminder that the auto-battle option can be turned off so you can play it regularly. Plus, isn't it the point of this series to make the most overpowered build so you can oneshot everything in your way? And above all, you use the item world as a battlefield, whose entire POINT is to be a grindfest. I'd like you to to tackle the Rakshasa maps if you can even make it past Carnage

The thing is that the game is balaced for the auto battle to be always active, so if you want to farm the normal way you need to spend too much time in that, event is too much for disgaea standars

Disgaea 6 sucks but at least 7 looks to be learning from 6's mistakes. Thats nice.
