That is just stupid.

One of the key-factors, to my love of the franchise, was their art-style and impressive, creative use of sprite animations. I do compliment the design team, for using a low-poly 3D models, to try an mimic the original art-style, and I guess "more things" can be done, by just "virtual puppeteering" a model around, but... there's just so very little charm and style to these, when comparing this to the previous installments. Attack sequences just literally don't have the same 'impact'. 🤷‍♂️

The keyframed movements dont feel as snappy as the 2d counterparts; it just feels like a drawback. Hell it gives the impression of being slower

Btw, for future readers, isn't lowpoly, it is chibi. (A single boob of those models have more polygons than a PS1 model 💀)

They're okay but I guess I got spoiled by the over-the-top explosions everywhere, planet-busting animations of the earlier titles, especially the spells.

In my opinion as the series' first time in 3D it's not bad. It still feels like the same over the top attacks from previous games, and while it's obvious that there's no other way but up from here, this is a good starting point. My main gripe would be that they still have only one voice clip play for EVERY action. (EDIT) Y'all this game has the perfect jiggle physics therefore all the animation is perfect.

Definitely got growing pains here, there's plenty of extra possibilities the shift to 3D offers, but they gotta speed up those animations. Asagi's Stratus Drive shows the kind of stuff they can do. Quick, good camera work, has that over the top impact, though the landing needs a bit more speed. Also, the Evil Eye is a legitimately great new unit, I hope they return.

I will say one thing. I am SO HAPPY they fixed Adell's voice actor from 5, that crap was a tragedy. Rozalin sounds great as well!

Funny thing is Adell's original voice actor was recycled in 5. They just recycled the worst lines/grunt in the game.

yeah, but laharl got worse. i can tell they have the right voice, but he seems way too calm in this game compared to the original. even his laugh is less energetic.

I don't remember if Zombie's Revenge was in a previous game, but that was an awesome reference to zombie games (particularly Resident Evil).

I’m glad NIS decided to try 3d out, personally. I know the intensity of these is a bit low, but it is NIS’s attempt at a full 3d Disgaea game, and i respect that

I really loved seeing the previous protagonists skills animated in 3D. But I can only hope that Disgaea 7 will be back to beautifully animated sprites. It's unspeakable to me how Disgaea 5 managed to age this well. I preferered D1>D4>D5>DD2>D3>D2, but after finishing D6's PC and revising D5, D5 likely is my very favorite from mechanics, controls, shortcuts, gameplay and artstyle.

Yeah definitely, D5 was just amazing with all its classes and how much there was to do - in fact I bought a PS4 just to get D5 because at the time in 2015? it was PS4 exclusive. Same with D3, I bought a PS3 just for that haha. D6 was a misstep, but I have hope that they will improve for D7.

Yeah Disgaea 5 is the most mechanically sound and explored disgaea game in a way that disgaea 6 was never gonna achieve because of how simple it is to play it felt boring and numbers going up don't do much if everything surrounding it is boring or janky

In my honest opinion, the current 3d skill animation is weak compared to the previous over the top 2d animations but I can understand that it is their first time rendering it into 3d so I guess it is acceptable. Hopefully if there is another disgaea installment I hope they would improve in this regard.

This one sucks so hard they couldn't afford to release in ps4 in the same date, it feels like a phone game. But if they survived 3 they will hopefully survive this one too

I can't wait for 7 but honestly it seems so many classes are missing and theyre is so few from previous titles unless this doesn't included them because they're dlc. and they didn't have to do a cutscenes for all the skills like the basic spells and weak moves

It seems like they went back to basics after trying to go over the over the top sequel after sequel.

I'm probably late but I wanted to check Disgaea 6's animations again, at first I didn't quite like the 3d, but after a while it grew on me, if anything for a real complaint is the speed of some of these animations, along with kinda wish they animated the Omega one's, they went so far to make models for them but since they didn't animate them really, it felt they could have saved time and just use the original pixel art which you can argue is ment to fit the style but the Teras are legit PNGs so it's not like it would look super out of place. Next is I wish there more voice lines, like legit either tone down how much the character speak during their animations or give us more dialogue options or have special custom lines for personal skills and then have the flaw of repeating generic lines for the squad attack

This art style is a regression from 5, but I see it as the transition to something possibly better. Either the next Disgaea game will go back to being 2D (as they're on the upswing with the mobile game) or the next one's 3D will look even better. All the same though they need to ditch the chibi look if they're sticking with 3D and need to proportion the models/characters like their art.

IDK man, it's just that, the 3D transition made it lose the impact of the attacks. The 2D sprites made it feel like it hits harder.

@Firelord considering every class needed sprites for every single skill in the games, it would save them a lot of time and money making them 3d.

I pity the Fighter who had to soak up all those special spells and skills just for others to see.

LOL actually I couldn't figure out how to get it, I leveled up my 6 star ranked mages to level 9,999,999 and did all quests, but I couldn't get the spell? Maybe there's a skill shop in the item world that sells it. But I've googled how it looks now and wow it doesn't leave much to the imagination 👀

Good for one viewing in-game but I feel like they'd slow down the actual gameplay so I bet most people would either skip them or only have the show once option on.

the 3D animations are nice but kind of wish they'd cut back on moves that are like a full on cutscene that uses a generic landscape cube. Disgaea 7 uses the same moves. I hope they go back to some of the weaker skills activating on the actual map again like the older games did. Perhaps also if an attack activates twice, perhaps just have the animation once or maybe... special animations to show the second attack. While it's nice to show animations once and skip every time after, I do like having some flavor to combat, instead of every attack after looking generic. a middle ground, so to speak.

I like the 3D effect of most of these attacks like it adds to the characters strength, But compare it to the previous title and it feels underwhelming somewhat I mean you have someone who throws an oversized prinny at the world and it blows up, and here it just… ehhh

They really regressed back to disgaea on the DS, what with every skill taking you off the map. It's unfortunate that this might actually actually being the last mainline disgaea game, because while I understand wanting to try and bring in some fresh blood, we lost alot of the uniqueness that made it what it was.

Wait, why would this be the last mainline Disgaea game? If nothing else they've confirmed they're already in planning for the next one. And considering the game's age, I don't think we can say anything yet on sales that might suggest no further ones coming.

@@GameAW1 actually they lost a lot of money on Disgaea mobile with a terrible launch that delayed them over a year and cost millions. then they had budget cuts that clearly show in this game. Although I dont think this will be the last game, its a huge step backwards with the possibility

@@metlspaz1 Oh I'm aware of all that but calling this the last one really is overexaggerating. Plus with the jump to 3D, its equally likely they are starting small and may well work their way up. We still got a very solid roster of generics to use and hundreds of hours of Disgaea grinding. Though admittedly while its good they wanted to make things simpler for a more casual audience, I think this time was a tad too far in that direction. The game's still hella good but its not going to compare to earlier games that had so much more when this cut out so much.

I bought the game recently and really enjoying the story so far, but looking at this most of the attacks really lack that... over the top ridiculous firepower level nonsense from older entries. I mean just look at shit like Red Magnus blowing up planets with a wave of his hand and shit. Bieko looks like the closest we get for that among the main characters in D6?

5 is so much superior. I guess they had to make some cuts to make the 3D style, but it wasnt worth what they lost, many classes and mechanics are gone.

Hmmm... can't wait to get it since I love this series; played Part 5 to death, but the 3D plygons make the special skills not as over the top. I kinda miss the series staple 2D sprites. I feel like Japanese developers are just so far behind in 3D modeling technology. I mean this is 3D polygons from like 20 years ago. When even western indie developers are making more advanced looking games with free 3D tools like unity. I wish they would have stayed with what they're comfortable, 2D sprites.

I love the Disgaea series, but man these look rough. The animation feels rushed in some areas, cut in others, and overall lacks the usual NIS polish.

How do i learn omega and tera level spells?

The art style is ok. However.. What I don't like about this style is, that you literally watching a movie clip with each skill. All other disgaea you can often see the damage during the animation. In disgaea 6 you watch a movie and only after that you can see the damage you did. This is triggering me the most.

Sorry, it must've been the one I missed. Now I realized you can buy it in the skill shop in item worlds I think. I played it on release, I looked around for hours but couldn't find it. I support the move to a more modern 3D, but this is kinda bad. Even ignoring the models and animations, they have to create a special box for everything over just letting the basic things happen in the field. "Special" moves are diminished when basically EVERY skill has an absurd 30 second animation. Disgaea 2 was probably where they got this best. Very few moves that took you out of the base room, and most of them were over rather quick
