  Those Ampex tapes aren't backcoated. That should make it easier to work with them.

  I also think that baking removes the moisture from the binder, and the heat makes the binder adhere better to the carrier film

  I couldn't afford a startech capture card but I did get the same type and model of splitter you have as well as an HDMI to USB stick as the capture card. Do you think that'll work OK?

  I was sent a link to this video by someone that knows I'm a huge fan of Ray Stevens. Ray recorded "Help!" and a couple of other Beatles songs on one of his 1969 albums called 'Have a Little Talk With Myself': "Help!", "Hey Jude", and "The Fool on the Hill". It was commonplace for singers to cover other singers as a sign of respect and, or, admiration. A lot of singers, as mentioned in another comment, took their turn at recordings songs associated with the Beatles. Also, for the most part, cover songs were usually tucked away on an album and rarely released as a single. Ray never released any of the covers songs he recorded in 1969/1970 as singles. He kept them as album tracks.

  An updated VCR would be fantastic. I’ve had several of these machines over the year and Panasonic is absolutely the best brand. They never wear out. I don’t like Sony because they’re make attractive products, they usually not long lasting. The best thing about VCR is that you can tape anything off of TV and I guess the computer screen. And you also own the movie or TV show that you buy. If you buy a movie, that’s being streamed, at some point it’s just not economical to maintain an obscure movie. And so one day you may want to see that and it’s no longer available.

  I recently had to buy a new old stock Maxell Professional S-VHS cassette (SE-180) to create a "measurement tape" to check with my own recording whether the frame count is 100% identical and the sound is field synchronized after 3 hours. I have NEVER managed to do this with a cheap TBC (Panasonic DMR-E55 EG DVD recorder in EE mode, YUV out) or without TBC and Blackmagic Intensity PRO or Shuttle.
