I have been a TV engineer since 1990 and prefer to repair equipment that is younger than me😉

I guess that the Ampex VR-7000 is one of the rarest VTR’s ever made. It came out in the mid to late 1960’s, and it was an engineering nightmare to fix and restored. I hope a better solution would be an O-Ring if a tire wears out, you have to replace it with an O-Ring to fit perfectly. Hardware stores sells O-Rings to replace worn out rubber tires since it was very old, and started to go goo. O-Rings is a good replacement.

I prefer the VHS and Betamax VCR’s and DVD players over this one, because the Ampex VR-7000 is one of the rarest video tape recorders ever and it’s hard to fix and get it restored. I had to stay away from this and the ill-fated Cartavision video tape cartridge machine. And I won’t forget the VX VCR which was made by Quasar in the late 1970’s, and it was short lived until VHS came along. Reel-to-reel tape recorders were easy to use and it records audio not video, and it’s fixable, and it needs some service for restoration. You can record stuff off of the radio, record player, and you can record off of TV which was audio only, not video. Back in the 1960’s and 1970’s, people recorded stuff off of TV using audio instead of video, many of these were lost media, and that was back then when VCR’s never existed.

Make sure if this machine works to get all tapes transferred to something else. Too mercurial of a machine!
