The great Rufus Thomas from the Stax label! He brought us “Walking The Dog,” “Do The Funky Chicken” and other soul/R&B dance hits in the 1960’s and 70’s.

Rufus and his daughter Carla Thomas were among the very first artists to record for Stax-Volt records in Memphis. Rufus also recorded at Sun studios. He was a popular Memphis DJ who started recording "answer records" to others' recordings, like "Bear Cat", an answer to Big Mama Thornton's hit "Hound Dog". By the late '60s he had rejuvenated his career by recording songs that started dance crazes, like "Do the Funky Chicken" and "Do the Push and Pull".
