    Hi, from Japan. Thx for another great reviewing. I’m using 250 with 50s2 which has much slower AF comparing with 100s. You might know already but I’ll share my 2 tips for taking birds with 250 based on my experience. 1: Enable boost mode which speeds up AF speed. (I guess 100s has the option too.) 2: Use the focus range limit switch. (It will also increase the initial focus speed.) I used to use X system and xf90 was my favorite lens. I feel like the similar taste from gf250 and love this lens too. Your channel is one of my favorites youtube channel in global which covers GF system wide and deep. Appreciate your great work!

    If you had an X-H2 and were about to buy a dedicated macro lens for the XF system and already had the XF 33mm F1.4 and didn't need another lens in that focal range, would you go for the 30mm macro or the 80mm macro? I'm currently leaning towards the 80mm macro because it can also be used as a small telephoto, but I have reservations because it's one of Fuji's older lenses. For example, it has no locking mechanism for the aperture ring and is also relatively large and heavy. It is surprisingly just as big and even a bit heavier than the Canon RF 100mm F2.8 Macro for full frame. And I actually switched to APS-C so that everything is smaller and lighter.

  • @MikeBanom
    @MikeBanom10 күн бұрын

    Funny story - I do have an XH2 😬. I think in short I really wish I had a need/use for the XF30 macro, but I shoot GFX for photo, XF is just video for me these days. However that being said - the XF80 macro is an absolutely INSANE lens. I'd Highly recommend it. It might be the best lens fuji made on the XF. Its insanely sharp. Like Insanely sharp, but also has killer bokeh. Great stabilization. I really dont have anything negative to say about it.

    I own 32-64, 55, 45-100, 100-200. I've had all primes before with other systems. To each their own, but IQ from today's zooms (IMHO) are very difficult to discern from primes, especially GF Lenses. All of my zooms are razor sharp and a joy to use. Even with f4, image stabilization on the GFX 100 II goes up to 8 stops with some lenses. The least is 5.5 stops (of the ones I own) with my 100-200, which I'll use a tripod the vast majority of the time. With my 55 f1.7, Fuji effectively killed the 45 and 63.

  • @MikeBanom
    @MikeBanom8 күн бұрын

    I'd also say the GF55 1.7 also killed the GF50; 1 lens discontinued 3! (being a bit dramatic) I agree with you on zoom comment. IMO the 20-35 is significantly better than the 23mm. I briefly used the 32-64, solid lens, and I've only heard amazing things about the 45-100!

    I forget if i mentioned in this video or not, but I have a comparison coming out in the next couple of weeks hopefully on the GF20-35 vs GF23. At a quick skim of the video you sent - he makes 2 really valid points. The GF23 def has less distortion. But in all my tests, the wide zoom is sharper edge to edge by a long shot to the GF23. GF23 has less distortion, but the corners tend on being soft. Good point on potentially not needing an ND with the GF23 going up to f32. But me personally, if I'm doing long exposure, I would always have my ND filters, so not something that matters to me personally. Whats funny is you touch on a great point for price. If you can get a killer deal on the 23 used, and price is the determining factor… i would go with the 23. I have the comparison actually 99% done, and its funny because i brought this up in the conclusion lol

    100% agree that a wide aperture wide angle lens would be a good place for the GFX system to go for future lens development; a ~35mm f/2 or faster would likely be a day one purchase for me, particularly if the minimum focus distance is comparable to the 20-35mm f/4 and 23mm f/4. I respect the opinion but have different feelings on the 50mm f/3.5, optically it's pleasing enough, it may well be the fastest focusing lens in the system, and the size/weight lends itself so well to travel that it's hard to imagine not bringing the 50mm with me if I'm jetsetting with the GFX. The lens has managed to almost completely uproot the 32-64mm f/4 from my travel kit. Btw, for macro work, I've found that the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS adapts very well to GFX and is a great 1, 2 punch with the 110mm f/2 for any subjects closer than the 110mm's minimum focus distance. The 100L has essentially full coverage of the GFX sensor at typical macro working distances, will do 1:1, and and even the corners sharpen up nicely at the narrow apertures often used for close up work (i.e., f/8 and smaller). The proper manual focus ring is a nice benefit in the studio as well. I already had the Canon lens when I bought into the GFX system in 2017 and am glad I tried it on my old 50S; it completely took away my desire for the 120mm f/4.

    Mike, I shoot professionally with all the big bad Sony bodies, a7R5, a1, etc.. how is your experience with the dynamic range on the medium format Sony sensor in the GFX compared to the full frame Sony sensors? I’m a sensor snob and have been curious about picking up a GFX 100s more for my hobby/boutique camera. I know with the larger sensor I’ll have better low light but I’m trying to decide if it’ll fit my shooting style and flow. Thanks

  • @MikeBanom
    @MikeBanom16 күн бұрын

    I only have a little experience with editing Sony raws. In my LIGHT experience… the dynamic range on a GFX will naturally be better. At least 25% on the lower end. The GFX raws are better, I think it just comes down to do you need AF? If so, Sony is your camera. Also, it was shocking to me to edit Sony files in LR and discover they really have no nice camera matching profiles. Fuji has some awesome ones that can serve as a nice base for your edits. Keep in mind if you want a GFX for a hobby/walk around camera, its hugeeeeee. Hope this helps.

    Will you be able to try the new GFX 100s II? I would love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to the original 100s. I'm curious as to whether the new AF, EVF, X-Processor 5, etc. are enough to persuade someone just getting into the GFX system to choose the newer model for $5000 over perhaps a used 100s for $3000.

  • @MikeBanom
    @MikeBanom25 күн бұрын

    Oh absolutely! I should be able to get my hands on it late June or early July. IMO the only thing so far worth testing that I am concerned about is AF. I'm hoping not. But I bet the AF will unfortunately cause me to upgrade. If you want the answer now though - if budget is a main decision maker, hunt for a killer deal on the 100s. For me, if the AF is amazing, the hard decision I need to make is wether or not to keep my 100s as a 2nd body.

    Thanks for your take on all these lenses! I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Mitakon 65mm f1.4 is the lens I'd buy into the GFX system for ;-) I like using manual focus lenses for the work I do, and love character of this lens. The TTArtisan 90mm f1.25 is another I'd want to line up, along with the GF45-100 F4 and GF20-35 F4 to get off to a great start. The 110 and 55 too... Where I'm in 2 minds is that I'd use a GFX100 II for video work too, and I'd be much more likely to use PL ciné glass than GF glass for filming. So for hybrid projects that's a lot of heavy glass to be lugging around.

  • @MikeBanom

    @@MikeBanom 👍 I guess a lot depends on the sort of work you do. • @alzibaba

    @@MikeBanom for sure it’s worth considering. For highlight striping, I don’t know as I don’t yet have a gfx, but Inhavent noticed it on any of the footage I’ve seen. I’m on the verge of getting one if some contracts firm up, but I’m more of a video/cinema guy and am on the fence about the video application of the 100 II. It looks good, but with lots of downsides for production. However the photos with the Mitakon 65mm and GF 110 are a big draw and may swing the decision.

    Great video, feels like some overlap but definitely a tuned kit for your style. When the new 500 gets here next week my kit will be finished as well. - 20-35mm f4 - 45mm f2.8 - 100-200mm f5.6 - 110mm f2 - 500mm f5.6 I’ve been in the system since 2019 so if I had to start over I would probably get all the same lenses but would be very tempted to go with the 55mm f1.7 over the 45mm f2.8

  • @MikeBanom
    @MikeBanom25 күн бұрын

    110 & 120 being the overlap? Solid selection sir! The 45mm is nice for a lightweight lens though. The 55 is a bit less fun for a grab and go lens, but I do think the 55 has a bit more character than the 45.

  • @keithherrin3098
    @keithherrin309825 күн бұрын

    @@MikeBanom I think I missed that the 50mm f3.5 wasn't part of the kit so the 110f2/120f4 and 55/50 were my thoughts. Of course the 110f2 and 120f4 are used for very different things so it's probably not fair to call it true overlap. I feel like my 20-35 eats into the times I would otherwise bring along the 45 and since getting the 110f2 I sometimes feel the same with it over the 100-200, so I would probably feel the same with the 120/110 combination. Completely agree with the size/weight savings on the 45 vs 55. I also feel like if I can only bring one lens I would rather have the 45 than the 55 just to get the goldilocks feeling with weight, fov, and aperture. That being said, I do like the idea of a 20-35/55 kit being thrown in a sling for city travel... Do you think you would ever consider switching out the 120 for the 110 TS lens?

  • @MikeBanom
    @MikeBanom25 күн бұрын

    @@keithherrin3098 Ah ok gotcha! On my recent trip to Hawaii, naturally I was switching between the 20-35 and 55 for landscapes and what not. Sometimes the wide zoom was too wide. But I kind of felt the same as you - I don't want the wide to eat in to my magical 55mm time. lol. (or 45mm for you) To be honest, I have never used a TS for studio/product work. And I'm not at the point where I could justify the upgrade since its super expensive. But… I would never say I wouldnt consider it ;)

    I have a copy of the GF 50mm and use if with a GFX 50S II as an everyday carry solution. I also use an X-T3 with an XF 27mm for a similar purpose. Both are very usable for me. I recently got a copy of the GF 45mm and might try using it as a substitute for the GF 50mm. I'm thinking about adding a GFX 100S II, but I might keep the 50S II/50mm as my everyday carry because I don't want to walk around with a camera system worth over $5000. Once I started using the GFX system I found myself using X series much less.

    I tried the GF45 for about a month in 2022. I really loved it! I think you'd find you would replace the GF50 pretty quickly after using the GF45. To me the GF55 is way more magical than the GF45, but its also substantially larger/heavier. I'm with you. I don't really use my X series at all for photo. Only if I need to document an event or something. And of course for video. I'd say if my XH2 had a screen similar to the GFX100s/ii or XH1, AND flipped out, I'd consider using it more. I just hate using the flip out screen for photo personally. Also one question for you - do you have camera insurance? Would that interest you if I made a video on it? I use Athos, and it very much so gives me piece of mind walking around with expensive gear.
