Thanks. Own the lens and concur about walking with it. Definitely good for street , but also very good for environmental portraits. I have not yet a chance to try it at night in a city environment but expect it to be a blast

Hi Mike, great first impressions video. I am looking forward to the full review. It would be great if you could show the behavior of this on objects or portraits also at f5,6-8 aperture to see the maximum IQ in what I presume should be the sweet spot for this lens. Thanks!

Hi, Mike. In KZread no any comparison between GF 50 f3,5 and Gf 55 f1,7. More over no any comparison on internet. It looks like bloggers try to avoid this topic, because 50f3,5 can do most of work 55f1,7 for much less money. What do you think about that?

Not a bad idea - I cant do this because I sold my GF50 f3.5! Realistically speaking, they are totally different lenses. The GF55 will blow it away in every aspect except size and weight. Most lenses in a photo studio situation will perform excellent. Overall the 55 has way better AF, is way sharper and has better bokeh.

More 55mm 1.7 gf 100sii!!!

Thanks for this video! Could you compare it to the 45-100 at 55 mm and then at f5.6 - 8? I really like the IQ of the 45-100, but am very interested in the 55 1.7.

Hey! So I have the 50mm f3.5 and I don't even bother taking it out in low light environments or night time. I really like the ~40-50mm full frame equivalent focal length, it's the one I use 95% of the time, so this lens is really on my radar and potentially a lens to keep fixed on the body. Could you do some low light shooting, indoor environments or some street at night? See how auto focus behaves as well wide open? Also some close up portraits would be nice to see minimum focus distance in action. Thanks!!

based on what you said, I can say without a doubt you will love this lens. As long as you can deal with the weight (I believe 780g, will of course confirm in my final review!) you will love this lens. Thanks for the ideas, I will absolutely get some night / low light shots to go over in the final video as well as talk about the min focus. Portraits, I will try to see if I can make that happen. I plan on selling my 50mm 3.5. It will be the only Fujifilm lens I will sell! At least so far. Lol

@@MikeBanom You're not helping my wallet!! Yeah was thinking I might have to sell the 50mm, but I still think it could be a good option for street during daytime. Can't bit its compactness... But man... With the prices you have to pick and choose wisely! Thanks for all the work you're putting out to help!

How does it compare with 110 f2? Autofocus speed, image quality etc.

The 110 is my main lens I own on the GFX, so I am very familiar with it. The AF on the 55/1.7 is way faster and snappier. 1010g (110mm) vs 780g(55mm). Both take phenomenal pictures. If you want a wider lens, the 55 is a great option! But both are amazing and you cant go wrong with either. Just more of which tool do you need for the job vs which is better or worse.

I can totally understand that. I'd personally LOVE to see a GF35mm 1.7 or a 18mm 1.7!

@@MikeBanom it's not a popular opinion but i would love smaller lenses with distorsion and slight vigneting that can be corrected in post ... these are 2 tradeoff that i'm willing to make to have a smaller lens

I swear its becoming a trademark in my videos. I'm recording on the XF23mm 1.4, and the old version is kinda meh so eye AF is crucial, but makes it hard to focus on objects when i hold up 🤷‍♂
